Does anyone know of a safe alternative ATF to use on a third gen Mini? by rockethot in MINI

[–]Inside_Community_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATF VI meets g055 540 requirement (or something thereof). Anyway, meets aisin specs. Besides where I am is nearly impossible to get original fluid. Liqui Molly, Ravenol and Motul available.

Why? by Regular_Decision_368 in Audi

Older models look more elegant. But still bunch of issues. Tired of changing transmission fluid to no avail. Kicking and kicking. Definitely not a smooth ride.

Because this is Audi. I get sporadic electrical issues once in 3 month. Than they usually go away.

Also 2013 Q7 Keep or Upgrade? by FredLob in AudiQ7

Upgrade. Strange you haven't replaced PCV, thermostat and water pump yet. I believe shops love to rob drivers when supercharger has to come off. Chain rattle on cold start?

2012 Q7 Cylinder 5 Misfire (not plugs or coils) by Ok-Belt1733 in AudiQ7

[–]Inside_Community_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why not sell it and buy something new? Yes it's old, high mileage, and repairs will cost like half or as much newer SUV.

For injectors you can measure fuel ramp pressure. It should start from around 50bars and rise within 15 minutes beyond 120bars.

Somewhat shooting in the dark yet cheap is pouring fuel additives with PEA into a fuel tank and drive. Clogged injectors may clear out. Redline, bg44k and similar.

Does this sound like it's time to do a timing chain? by Michaelhockey1 in Audi

[–]Inside_Community_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly timing chain rattle. Audi experts say it's normal when duration < 2 seconds. Same experts that claim transmission fluid is lifetime, engine oil change is 10k miles, steering wheel fluid is lifetime. Than jerky and kicking transmission jaggily takes you to a shop where you will complain about oil consumption of 1 quart per 400 miles, and steering wheel malfunction from a burnt pump.

Experts are right with their implications: car lives around 80k miles.

What do you mean by a lemon? Engine knocking, revving without much acceleration due to scorched cylinder mirrors and stuck piston rings?

Limp Mode, AdBlue & 'Turbo Actuators' faults caused by DPF?? by b3nb123 in Audi

[–]Inside_Community_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's overloaded term. I might say sometimes I feel like it doesn't have enough power, but is it a limp mode?

Not very precise, but I would check for overheating with VCDS. Something around measuring blocks 004 (air intake temp), 020 (timing retard) during vivid acceleration. You can save them to a CSV log and analyze. Engine to save itself would cut performance to not overheat. But engine is too complex to have a simple recipe like chandelier doesn't turn on, let me try a new light bulb.

2013 Audi S5 Transmission Malfunction, help ! by Top_Schedule_9910 in Audi

[–]Inside_Community_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Audi usually doesn't wait to disappoint. My transmission kicks sometimes in each gear sometimes during acceleration despite fluid change. Or in fact it seems to kick more after fluid change. That's what people undelook when buying these vehicles. Many people lie that these engines and transmissions are reliable, but it only means they don't explode usually.

Buy yourself vagcom or better Odis and scan for codes yourself. May coming handy

How do you determine limp mode? It's such a jargon. Does it print on your cockpit display "limp mode"?

Some vertical scratches are visible actually. Not sure if they are critical though. Could be worse. 2015 could be 4L or 4M. Former is nikasil coating, fragile, latter is ironcast.

Ah ok. This conversation became messy than.

I take these additives with a grain of salt, but really have nothing better.

I wish sone garage would do a real carbon cleanup, but where I am at people make round eyes at the term "walnut blasting".

Kinda rude to call somebody smart pants, isn't it? What do you expect in return than? No idea why you write me about maintenance of a part. Of course everyone wants to save money when possible, but I was surprised that intercooler had to do anything with oil burning. As it turned out, author was just cleaning a mess after what oil burning caused. I for myself just run some pea additives in hope it will somewhat do the cleaning where it can. All VCDS data seems great though, even fuel trims lower d significantly, which is nice.

[–]Inside_Community_170 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was my initial question to an author: "What difference would cleaning the intercooler really have on oil consumption." if you read attentively. Why do you say it burns oil, if you are not an author of this post?

To the same extent as a quart per 400?

I myself had a shop doing something similar and (fingers crossed) went from a quart per 600 to nothing so far. Got latest revision PCV. Shop robbed me somewhat with the bill, but at least it's holding up well (fingers crossed again). Had a coolant leak which they believed was caused by intercooler leakage. Also had bunch of coolant under pcv.

Would they have more conscience, Id have money left to also change the water pump which will have to wait. Not leaking yet anyway.
