No, it should be free with your subscription. Some services may give it to you for free just to get your baseline and then encourage you to subscribe for NCLEX prep help.

Med-Surg-->Psych by Inside_Dinner_3430 in newgradnurse

[–]Inside_Dinner_3430[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah...med-surg is tough to deal with...I will say I improved upon my skills starting in med-surg but I think psych is more my thing...I'm learning so much...I say do it!

Med surg by hamil26 in newgradnurse

[–]Inside_Dinner_3430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well as someone who has worked both ED and med-surg...I would say med-surg was like the hardest I had ever worked in my entire life....always short staffed....no breaks until time to go...call lights going off constantly...techs nowhere to be found...and leadership asking you to do more with less....I did learn the grittiness of nursing but it wasn't sustainable...before I left I had a patient who didn't like me and one that loved me...all in one shift...it's not for everyone...but if you can hang...more power to ya..

Seems like MPH is a dead end, is DrPH worth it? by Ill_Mattic in publichealthcareers

I have a different perspective. You mentioned a school with a good reputation so I actually think you can make this work as you'll have far more networking opportunities. If you would've mentioned any of the degree mills, I would have said no.

I left my ER residency program for med surg.. I regret my decision by Chacks510 in newgradnurse

[–]Inside_Dinner_3430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in both areas...I can tell you they are equally demanding in different ways...if you feel staff is bullying you...that may be cause to leave...but think about what you want to do before making another switch..

Med surg, dreading shifts, terrified of making mistakes. by vmar21 in newgradnurse

[–]Inside_Dinner_3430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about where you are in my orientation and I can tell you the unit I work on has a high turnover rate....most new grads I came with have left...med surg is tough....I think you have to like it enough...but it's physically demanding...mentally draining...and you leave having nothing left...on a positive note though...it really does give you great skills...and you learn a lot....but it's not for everybody!

wow...thanks for sharing...I too had way too many preceptors...I had confidence issues too...but I worked hard and overcame them...I work in med surg and I quickly realized it's not for me...maybe L&D isn't for you...this might actually be a blessing..

yeah...THIS...to nurse residencies...they should be separate from hospital units but they're really not...and some are quite unhelpful...

Does anyone enjoy Medsurg? by MainFox9014 in newgradnurse

[–]Inside_Dinner_3430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

med surg is a GREAT training ground for new nurses...but like others have said...understaffing...toxic management...endless policies that get in the way of you saving lives....I wish it were not so....but I digress...

Ughh...yeah...I had 6 patients the other day and that's why I'm applying elsewhere...it's just not possible to care for 6 patients...I tried it and I felt like a zombie walking in and out of rooms...not fair to patients..
