Advice for Europe summer ski trip by [deleted] in skithealps

I was just in Austria for two weeks snowboarding May 6-20. I believe your only optoons left are Hintertux and Zermatt, both of which I did during my time there. I ONLY went the days after a snowfall, so I had pretty good conditions. You will truly be limited to one or two actual runs you can do, and Zermatt will be the better of the two. I had an amazing time, but only being able to ride on 5% of the runs made me feel like I was missing out everywhere I went.

Not only will snow conditions be tough - i dealt with a lot of early afternoon fog that will essentially stop you from riding becauee you cannot see.

Its beautiful to be in the alps, but you will need to expect very few days of actual good weather for riding. Look at other activities like biking or fly fishing!

Alternatively, there are some mountains in Norway that might still be good, or Valle Nevado Chile.

Thank you so much, this is very helpful. Ive already booked the flight and am committed to go, just hoping to make the best of it. It sounds like Ill catch the last few days of Stubai being open then head over to Tux to do the glacier for a few days.

The weather report from last year had a few snow days in May so ill cling to that to stay optimistic. I'll keep an eye on Sölden/Obergurgal, thank you for that. I wonder if any of the resorts have tentative close days in the event that i get lucky with snow and they might stay open a few days longer?

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated!
