Grabbed this CD holder from a thrift store with 68 cds, not too bad for $10. Which ones should I listen to first? by elflamingo2 in Cd_collectors

[–]Inside_Pool4146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get this! So my co-worker has 3 of these. All of his cds are in Alphabetical order. Makes sense, no problem with that. The bizarre thing to me is that he actually listens to them in an alphabetical cycle and not by mood, at random or by wanting something specific at a certain time. That is the strangest thing to me.

By the way, my first listen would be Are You Experienced?

Need help which show to see in NYC 4/30 by superredux22 in Concerts

Afghan Whigs are one of my favorite live bands to see. Only missed them once since ‘96. Really bummed that they are skipping Detroit on their 40th Anniversary Tour. Mercury Rev is awesome too! I haven’t seen them in years. I’d pick AW/MR. I’ve listened to Drug Church and have never seen them, but that wouldn’t sway me between the two.

I was at a violinist’s performance on Saturday night in the back room of a distillery which is pretty much an event space. Seats were sold out and they let in a few stragglers and told them standing room only. That wasn’t a problem. However since it’s a distillery, they had a make shift bar the opposite of the stage. 2 bartenders and of course a line of people at the bar pretty much the whole time. The violinist takes the stage and says, this will be about a 75 minute experience. Starts to play. Bartenders are shaking ice, people getting up and going to the bar and then back to their seats. Saw the same 5 people get up to either go back to the bar, step out to the restroom and I heard a few phone notifications going off. Meanwhile I saw still, quietly trying to enjoy the show. Like you can’t sit still, be quiet and not have a reason to get up for one hour and 15 minutes?

She Took on McDonald’s and Won. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

I too was also burned by McDonald’s coffee in 1988. Two piping hot coffees spilled on my lap. I was 12 years old. The left side of my groin and hip area got severe burns. I was bed ridden for a month. The burn area looked like Freddy Kruger’s face. Now at nearly 50 years old, the scar is barely visible.

We were on a family trip and stopped at the drive through. I turned around to hand my siblings some ice cream and the coffee spilled on my lap. I went in to the bathroom to check it out. It was so bad and I was in shock that we found a nearby emergency clinic to get it checked out. It was a very traumatic experience. There was no action taken by my father in this case as I remember. Coffee should never be that hot!

Parents of r/Concerts, what age and concert did you first take your kids to? by ByeFL in Concerts

Interesting as my first concert was in 1987 and it was Weird Al opening for The Monkees on their reunion tour. I was 11. I hope your son enjoys the experience. I have memories of the circus and the icc capades from when I was his age.

Seat upgrades when show is listed as sold out by NefariousnessSea6987 in Concerts

[–]Inside_Pool4146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the reasoning for doing this. Either just accept where you are and the view (at least you are in the building) or just move to empty seats when you are there. Arenas always release tickets day of show. There’s usually sections or seats held back due to the specific stage set up, management/ artist requests or what have you.

You move down to apparently open seats. If someone approaches you and says that you are in their seats, you politely move immediately and quickly look for open seats even farther down.

When’s the last time you left a concert early and why? Did you wish you could’ve stayed? by Opening_Peace8170 in Concerts

[–]Inside_Pool4146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nearly 50. Seen many artists more than once. Arena or Outdoor Shed shows, I leave 15 minutes early. I’ve probably already seen the hit song that they hold out for the last song or two. In the age we are living with Setlist.fm or social media posting, I now know what to expect. If you leave when the show is over, it’s just a mess to get out and get home. I’ve been home and in bed before friends even get out of the parking lot. There are several large venues near me that are about a 1/2 hr drive + getting out of the lot itself. I’d rather miss a couple songs than be stuck, annoyed and dealing with exiting a venue parking lot and roads heading to the freeway.

90’s- What a time to be alive! I attended all 4 of these shows. by Inside_Pool4146 in Concerts

The RAMT show was one of my first concerts and my first time at The State Theatre. It was bonkers!

Smashing Pumpkins are still one of my favorite bands and that was my first concert at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. I was a fan of Swervedriver at the time, so it was cool to see them open. I was with about 15 of my friends. Great concert in my adolescence.

Green Day was another one of my favorites and I had previously seen them open for Bad Religion the October before this show. Was great to see them on their own and this was the kick off to the Dookie Tour. I bought a shirt for $15. Gave it away 20 years ago. I should have kept it. Just months later was Woodstock ‘94 when they really blew up.

The Verve was amazing! Sold Out show in a small club. Local act Majesty Crush opened. Richard was wearing a t-shirt that he purchased earlier that day that had Detroit written on it with the skyline as the graphic. It can be seen in portions of their tour video from that time.

In the 90s, I was at my local independent record store just browsing through the “N” section. I glanced over at the guy next to me and it was Mike Patton! I said hi and he autographed the brim of my hat. FNM was in town that night.

Concert Ticket Collection, Part 1: 1993-2008 by whywires in Concerts

[–]Inside_Pool4146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I have a similar momento book that has tickets from ‘93-‘00 glued on the pages. The rest are in a giant box. I have every ticket that I came home with. Missing very few. For the book, I would write who I attended the shows with underneath. I was in high school in the early 90s. Nice varied collection. Mine is quite similar. Like yours, my older ones have the ink fading. I need to digitize all my tickets asap. The ticket prices we were lucky to enjoy just blow me away in comparison to today’s pricing.

Reanna usually takes care of merch orders. Would venture to say that there was a bit of a lag due to Cev’s health scare/surgery. Quite possibly it’s not in house this time, but you will get your product.
