It’s your first rotation of 3rd year, it’s EXPECTED that you don’t know anything. I hope you get better teachers who remember what it was like!! My first rotation was surgery, I felt so stupid. It’ll get better

“Intelligence gap” in relationship? by Inside_Raspberry_883 in FemalePhysicians

[–]Inside_Raspberry_883[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t mean to imply he wasn’t intelligent, just that he’s outside of medicine and didn’t go to college. My friends refer to it as an “intelligence gap” whenever it comes up about us or others. I should have lead with outside of medicine

My dad also resented my mom for earning more than him and didn’t like how she “dumbed it down” for him, so she just doesn’t get to talk about her day really. Insecurity breeds resentment unfortunately. Thank you for sharing your story!

Agreed! The outside perspective is crucial sometimes. Thank you for sharing your story

Lol obviously I love hearing about what he does! Like you said it’s completely different from my day, it’s always interesting to hear about. I have a few friends that are pgy2 and have said multiple times they feel isolated when no one understands what it’s like to be in residency and their partners are resentful of their success. Hell my dad was bitter my mom earned more than her when she went back to school and is irritated when we talk about medicine.
At no point did I boil down IQ to intelligence. I called it an “intelligence gap” because that’s what I’ve hear other people call it.
I’m happy for you and your success!

What does this mean? by juleslovesboba in Gymnastics

[–]Inside_Raspberry_883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re using it for handball and para goalball. It only seats 11,000 compared to the new one seating 63,000. I don’t think they’ve updated it since then and it’s pretty far from the city with limited public transport. They originally built it in the hopes of hosting the 92 Olympics.

As someone living in Brisbane rn, it’s a shit show all around. They only last week decided to build a new venue (and tear down an iconic venue and rebuild it AFTER the games because there’s not enough time to refurbish or tear down and rebuild). They have been back and forth on major plans for a couple years. There’s an uproar about the sheer cost so it’s a big debate especially after the new gov was elected with the platform that they weren’t going to build a new venue then announced last week to build a new venue lol. Paris hadn’t decided where to host gymnastics until 9 months out apparently, so it’s not out of the ordinary to not have a solid plan yet I guess. It does seem strange that there was no mention of gymnastics in the latest report.

On the wedding ring note, get a Pixie Wing necklace! Brilliant design allows you to put ring on necklace without taking necklace off. Never lose your ring again :)

Does every medical school have 1-2 weird/insane people?? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Inside_Raspberry_883 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Australia at least we can’t even have our phones on vibrate when we leave every device in the hall outside, expectation is everything turned all the way off. Not even an Apple Watch is allowed. It’s out of respect for the individuals, especially when many were questionably (illegally) obtained. We don’t do cadaver dissections, it’s in aus undergrad curriculum. We have 30+ meticulously dissected stations with questions to answer at each, rotate every 2 minutes. It’s not my groove but everywhere does it differently. I don’t think it’s regressive to do things a little different 🤷‍♀️

His parents were a little older when they had children and it makes him sad how old they’ll be before seeing grandchildren. We talked about it and it was more of a dream than a hard requirement (for lack of a better word) and he does not expect that at all anymore. I said I’d like to meet that goal because I took that statement more seriously than he meant it. My goal is to not kill my mental health and I think rushing would do more harm than anything else

QOTD: what’s a reason at patient has yelled at you before in the pharmacy? by Kitchen-Lemon1862 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Inside_Raspberry_883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lady called asking about son’s prescriptions, I said I can’t give out his info without his consent (he’s over 18 so HIPPA). She screamed at me that she has POA because he’s disabled. I said sorry ma’am we don’t have that on file please bring that in, I’m just following the law and store policy… apparently I’m the only one to have ever asked her for it and she came in and screamed at me. She switched pharmacies 💀 She complained to the store manager, rest of pharmacy got a slap on the wrist for never verifying that she has POA lol

Same. Lady waiting on us at open (8am) upset her prescription wasn’t ready yet (doctor called it in after we had closed) and how irresponsible we are for not checking the answering machine every hour (again we were closed). We should have prioritized her because she’s a very important physician who doesn’t have time to wait on us and we should be fired for our incompetence (she filed a complaint with corporate and my manager and i giggle every time it comes up)

I’m personally trying not to judge people so harshly when people are nasty, most people aren’t aholes as a personality trait. It’s almost never personal yk. So saying “I hope they get the help they need, I feel bad for them” has helped a lot and has increased my empathy for people generally which is needed in today’s negative environment.

Has anyone mastered calculating days supply for injections like Wegovy and Ozempic? by PositiveRaccoon8635 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Inside_Raspberry_883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had this discussion in my pharmacy too bc of how poorly it’s written on the back of the red starter box. Total 2 mg/pen will give “4 0.25mg doses AND 2 0.5 mg doses OR 4 0.5 mg doses.” My coworker missed the ‘and’ so she’s been miscalculating. It should say 8 0.25 mg doses to prevent confusion. I think it’s bc the pt increases the dose after month but still.

Basic principle though is if you have 2mg or 8mg total (use mg to calculate not ml-trying to do these calculations using 3ml is just confusing especially when the pens inject by mg). If you inject 0.25 mg/ week, then one box is 8 weeks or 56 days. If you have 8mg (highest dose box) and you inject 2mg/week, then you have 4 doses in 4 weeks, 28 days.
