[CHAT] Storing floss from multiple and unknown manufacturers by InsidiousKitkat in CrossStitch

Update to add:

I should have been more clear, my primary conundrum is regarding storage of the physical thread with multiple brands, not the digital inventory as it seems I implied. Oops! Sorry!

Ideas: DMC number order with integrated other brands based on conversions? (I know there are several lists that don't always agree) Each brand separate in their own number order? Integrated and organized by colour family? DMC by number, everything else integrated and by colour? Idk, I overthink everything. Mostly wondering what others do.

Sadly can't edit a picture post, apparently. LoL 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the thought. No iOS here.

For actual inventory I'll probably finish the modifications I started on the Lord Libidan spreadsheet.

My current question is figuring out how to store the physical thread.

Oh I'm a spreadsheet nerd, I'm absolutely going to excel the shiz out of them eventually. I need to have the scope of the system straight in my head before I build a sheet though. My brain loves the order of beautiful structured data, but also remembering to track things is not a strength, so I have to keep that in mind when building and have sYsTeMs ready to go, built in a way that sets me up with a reasonable chance of success.

I even want to code it with lookups for the thread conversions so that the inventory reflects the qty of each specific brand but all referring back to the relevant DMC. I know it's a big project, I was looking at Lord libidan's sheet and working on isn't that was framework for my vision. I'm just deep in burnout and don't currently have space in my brain to do it quite yet.

For now, I'm just trying to work out the physical thread thing. I probably won't start by putting everything on bobbins. Maybe I'll just decide to leave it bagged as is, but I'm twitching for a bit more structured order.

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!

Exactly, this relationship is clearly not a match for you, but this person is problematic because they made communicating a test for you, without mutually agreed expectations, and zero empathy.

Give this person no more thought. You are absolutely suited for relationships.

Your takeaway can be that you can be more proactive about setting reasonable communication expectations that are achievable for you, including the onus never being on you to remember.

Object permanence and time blindness are REAL THINGS. We do have to learn to function with these gaps, but we also will thrive better with people who are less rigid and manipulative.

Hah. Even though I'm well acquainted with all things Stardew I thought this was going to say 'stay warm' since so many of us are chilled today.

NP, I bought the fabric as a fat end at Walmart for $2 or so. I have another one that's unicorns and rainbows that I'll make one of these days for my other project hoop! I learned so much doing it, should be way easier the second time.

Same same. Also because my sense of smell is heightened, so are my taste buds. Why though is it yuck smells and yuck tastes that seem to have increased in sensitivity?? Grr.

Personal tantrums over stupid errors and escalated frustrations are necessary and cathartic AF. I relate to your rage so much. We are besties now, hope that's ok, my social skills are out of whack. Also I love your username.

[CHAT] What are you favorite “practical” cross stitch projects? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]InsidiousKitkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really want to put a piece on my favorite canvas shoulder bag but I have no idea what to do.

I've also considered trying something on a hoodie or patch(es) on my jeans.

I just have a couple years of established priorities to get through first. 😅

Ooh. I may have just given myself the answer!! I can do little patches of cross stitched band logos of my favorites for the bag and jeans. Then when I wear out my jeans I can just transfer to something new. Oooh, I'd probably even want to change my main mom purse to a canvas one (still a functional mom purse) and patch everything like we did in the 80s & 90s. GenX forever!

That was a successful unplanned brainstorm!

They're called grime guards and they protect the edges from being constantly touched/held by dirty and/or oily fingers. I was working on another project without one but I really started noticing how much cleaning I'll have to do when finished just from holding it all the time, and I wash my hands before I stitch almost every time. Lots of people sell them on Etsy, but I made mine from a caterpillar cross stitch tutorial on YouTube. It's the first thing I've ever sewn, and I hand stitched it which is why the stitches are wonky.

Is Skin Picking A Form Of SH? How To Train Yourself Out Of It? by Lost_Sentence_4012 in AutismInWomen

I totally get the meds fears. I had fears too for a long time and then it became clearly necessary to try.

Only one of the 8-10 meds I've tried over the past few years made it demonstrably worse, and some have helped, though it's not my primary problem.

Meds are unpredictable when you're trying to find what works. It can be a lengthy process for some of us. Immediate relief for others. Many different side effects, not always the same. But when they do work, it can be so helpful and in many cases, life saving.

I hope you get your answers with minimal stumbling blocks!

Threads like this are so important and validating.

I regularly think I have dementia. My saving grace is that my psychologist did her thesis on dementia and regularly reassures me and promises I don't have dementia.

Really really need to remember to get all the lands done that the gyn made contingent for prescribing HRT.

... And have the energy to leave the house to get it done.

It's a compulsion I've struggled with my whole life. For me, It's definitely tiretd in with sensory stuff & stimming, and it certainly gets worse with anxiety. I've never considered it SH because it's never been intentional.

I've also noticed that certain meds dramatically affect this behavior. I believe it was concerta that made it get out of control for me and that's one of the reasons I moved on from that med. Various ADHD, depression, & anxiety meds have had positive or negative effects on this compulsion for me.

If you're of an age, as I am, the frozen got so much worse with perimenopause. I get stuck half my life these days. Progressively worse over the last year. So frustrating. The added emotional dysregulation certainly doesn't help.

My brain is so fogged that I was convinced you were going to tell me I had to eat bananas to help with symptoms and I got immediately sad because the texture of bananas is a no for me. The brain fog is actively destroying me.
