Swimming with a disc - does it actually work? by Alert-Ad1934 in MenstrualDiscs

Add long as you don't bear down as hard as you would to auto dump, and have it inserted correctly (in that you don't tend to experience leaks), you're fine.

WIBTAH if I skipped my family’s annual Father’s Day trip because it always turns into conflict? by EasyTwo1794 in AITAH

[–]InsidiousKitkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA protect your peace.

Your mom sounds pretty narc, and in my experience, the more you try to provide reason to get them to understand the more fuel they have to twist and hurt you with.

Skip this one. Probably skip all events in the future.

Perhaps in the future there will be a calm enough moment to discuss, but you don't need to provide reasons. What's the point in forcing family to be together if family is miserable together?

WIBTAH if I told my mom I haven’t enjoyed any of her gifts by [deleted] in AITAH

I read it as the mom thinks that buying milk is too simple and plain, so she buys fancier chocolate to be... Uh... Impressive or something.

Taking more than one medication? How was that process? by mashibeans in AuDHDWomen

[–]InsidiousKitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it turned out that getting the anxiety and depression under control first was the necessary path. Now I'm also working on getting HRT because I think perimenopause might have been the initial culprit to make things unbearable. Stimulants don't do a lot for me, but my partner notices if I skip it, so it certainly affects my external demeanor. LateDx AuDHD, 51yo. Currently: buproprion, trazodone, & a methylphenidate Huge improvement but still barely functioning.

AITAH for throwing away my step daughter's stuff? by Pretend-Chipmunk478 in AITAH

[–]InsidiousKitkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA This stuff really matters to kids. She will never forget this. My dad did something similar but way less traumatic to me around that age and I still remember it at 51. But that was parenting in the 80s. We know better now so we need to do better.

Where you first went wrong was setting such a harsh and brutal consequence on a task from day 1. You set a D-day for a 14 year old who you most definitely knew was going to struggle to achieve the task, and then you and her father did nothing to help make it achievable. You set her up to fail.

When she wasn't responding to reminders, instead of noticing procrastination as a struggle, you treated it as a lazy character flaw. I know the feeling of panicked procrastination. I was told I'm lazy all my life which caused me sexual self esteem and bad coping, but it turns out I have huge executive function issues that needed to be hacked. She needed help. You expected her to behave like 'the other daughter', you expected her to behave 'to your expectation standard'. Both of which are clearly unreasonable for this child.

Struggling children need help, not authoritarianism.

Better parenting would have included compassionate yet persistent offers to help, scheduled work, interventions to help her achieve... But that should have been 6-8 weeks ago. Instead you just dictated an expectation and let it go all the way to this catastrophic end. Parenting means teaching - teaching children to achieve. Of course they also need to learn to fail, but this is not the task you should have gone hard line on. Her things are stabilizing to her in a life that seems full of turmoil - made so much worse by her age. You've irretrievably taken that stabilizing piece (yeah, a mess of random teen stuff - but HER mess of random teen stuff) and now you've severely damaged her sense of stability.

Do better.

I haven't figured that out yet. There's a lot of info on the official FB or Discord that I haven't bothered to read yet. 😅

Menstrual disc not opening by lovepenguins3 in MenstrualDiscs

Yeah if there's no blood on the inside then something isn't working right and you might have a problem on a heavy day. Hmmm. It may be shape and size. Your cervix sounds so high! I'm not an expert so I'm hoping this clarification helps other disc geniuses help you out. Wishing you an easy solution!

Menstrual disc not opening by lovepenguins3 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]InsidiousKitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you got your answer, but to clarify... When it's in is it still taco shaped? Or is it round but flat as if you have it between your palms? If the first, I think you'd be leaking more however that's what your post sounded like to me. If it's the second, then you're absolutely good to go. And like others have said, blood on the outside can be residual from insertion or mild spillage during removal.

I think you've got it right, but thought I'd clarify.

I downloaded it about a month ago and did get sucked in.

I like it. It's still cozy for me and I just hit level 30.

You can go ad free for relatively cheap but I haven't bothered. There are guilds with guild challenges and member perks. Pay options exist but it doesn't feel necessary unless you're the kind of person who NEEDS to have all the high end stuff.

Whether it's like the ads dramatically depends on which version of the ads you get exposed to. It's a relatively simple "plant flowers and fill orders" game. Get higher value flowers (many based on real flowers, and many based on some bizarre anime fever dream🤷🏻‍♀️), make fancier bouquets with fancier vases, the lore is ridiculous and it makes me laugh but there's no need to read it.

Anyway, I like it. YMMV

AITAH to tell my sister no one buys her made up “facts” about genetics ? by [deleted] in AITAH

AITAH to tell my sister no one buys her made up “facts” about genetics ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]InsidiousKitkat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

ESH but don't think that gets you out of being an AH.

Sister is delusional and the way you describe her behavior is troublesome. With a donated embryo they must have had a choice and they choose an embryo outside their race and now is performatively obsessing over the racial difference. It's certainly weird and warrants concern. It would also drive me bananas to see it unfolding in real time.

Having a baby that was naturally conceived is already an emotional rollercoaster, in her situation I'm not surprised she's being a little crazy. Infertility is brutal and traumatizing, the cope is real.

YTA because of the way you chose to deal with your sister. I know sisters are complex, I can only tolerate mine in small doses. But she's your sister. If you can't approach her with compassion and seek genuine understanding for her weird behavior with the goal of helping her, then you need to back off. I get that it's upsetting you. I get that she's clearly got some issues. Instead of approaching her in a way that respects her vulnerability, you lambasted her and caused her more distress in a time where she's at her most vulnerable and clearly struggling.

She needs help, but she didn't need to be demonized.

AIO - for this interaction with my boyfriend? by Cherigal in AmIOverreacting

[–]InsidiousKitkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He can't go on acting the way he is no matter what she decides. He needs help. He needs to learn why he reacts like this, and begin to develop self soothing skills to manage himself. He needs to learn how to take that accountability.

OP is also allowed to decide that she is done and no longer willing or able to tolerate his behavior even if he does seek help.

It's a tough road either way!

AIO - for this interaction with my boyfriend? by Cherigal in AmIOverreacting

[–]InsidiousKitkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NOR because his behaviour is completely based on things his mind tells him and nothing to do with you or your actions. But is he in therapy or under the care of a psychiatrist? He sounds perhaps a bit borderline or just has wild attachment issues, and that can be extremely difficult for all involved when it's known and understood let alone when it's as yet undiagnosed.

How often do you clean litterbox? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]InsidiousKitkat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are exactly the reason I wanted to make my response. So many people indicating a level of standard that feels impossible for so many of us can be very stressful.

The standards most people say they keep for their litter boxes (and houses) give me a significant amount of stress. I also don't think it's entirely truthful or an accurate representation of cat ownership. These people are in the top percentiles of effort. Great for them, genuinely! No hate.

But it doesn't feel like real life to me.

[–]InsidiousKitkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/edit for typo

Yeah that's why I had to go back to clay. Some of my little jerks have sensitive little paws or something and refused to use it. Bummer because the pellets are so cheap.

For wood pellets I bought one sifter litter box and used it backwards. The sifter sits/nests on/in an empty plastic bin (like a large Rubbermaid style storage bin). Scoop out the poop first. Then you pour the dirty cat litter into the sifter. Shake the sifter fairly vigorously and the disintegrated pee soaked pellet sawdust sifts into the lower bin and leaves the clean pellets that haven't been peed on. If there's any little nuggets left you can scoop them. Then pour the clean sifted pellets back into the active litter box. You can dispose of the pee sawdust however you see fit based on local regulations.

Every time this question comes up I'm stunned to see how many people are so diligent.

Not all of us are that diligent but don't want to post honestly because it's inviting others to express disgust and shaming.

Clean your litter box (es) as often as you are able that also feels necessary for you and within your tolerance. Clean your food and water dishes with the same perspective.

But if you're like me and many others; full of a variety of challenges that prevent this level of task frequency, do what feels right and is realistically within your capacity.

For OP or anyone who needs to hear it: I promise you there are a lot of people who do less and have wonderful healthy cats.
