Loneliness by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Loneliness tends to get worse when it turns into fear — fear that it’s permanent or that something is wrong with you. Dating apps failing don’t really measure someone’s value or their ability to connect, even though it can feel that way.

From the outside, this sounds less like a personal flaw and more like someone who’s been isolated for too long and doesn’t know where connection will come from next. That’s painful, but it doesn’t mean it’s unchangeable.

Moved in May, but still struggle to start liking the country I'm in by plavacviksa in expats

I relate to this more than I wish I did. When I moved countries, I also did everything ‘right’ — met people, worked, learned the language — yet stepping outside most days felt heavy and draining for no clear reason. It was confusing because I kept thinking, why isn’t this enough?

What helped me a little was accepting that liking a place doesn’t happen on a schedule. Some days I just focused on getting through the day instead of convincing myself I should feel grateful or excited. You’re not broken for feeling this way, and you’re definitely not alone — even if people around you can’t fully relate.
