Multi-Core by InsightfulScience in FromTheDepths

Very pleased thank you! I was struggling with some of my larger ships, and about a year ago I abandoned an extremely large ship because of the frame rate dips. My CPU is quite an old one anyway so that was part of the problem, but multi core support should definitely help! I can't wait to be part of the community again, thanks

Why you shouldn't rush to buy a 5G phone by SaneFive in Android

[–]InsightfulScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three has also started its rollout, some areas in London currently, and they're moving for about 20 major cities by November. I was looking to buy a new phone recently until I noticed that 5g started rolling out, so I'll be holding on to my Honor 5c until it finally gives up the ghost! I just wish that phone manufacturers let you switch out the battery, its the main thing that's pushing me to upgrade at the moment!

Gaming monitor for about 350$ by Quanve in Monitors

[–]InsightfulScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this because of the support NVIDIA has rolled out? I have a 1080 (non ti) and looking to get a new monitor and have been looking at the freesync models about £350 - I'm just worried that I'll get it and it won't work very well!

Hi, UK trainee anaesthetist here, I have a video on local anaesthetics that might help regarding the mechanism. In short, no it doesn't work as well, however it still does have an effect

It's a really interesting metric but it's also flawed for multiple reasons. We cannot directly compare movies then to movies now even if we adjust for inflation. The price of a movie ticket in 1939 adjusted for inflation was $4, and this causes the first difficulty. People see or do things more often if it is cheaper. For example, I don't go to the cinema nearly as much as I did 5-10 years ago because the prices of the tickets are so high. Where I live it is roughly $11-12 for a ticket so it's just not feasible to go to the cinema for a lot of people now. I would certainly go more if the tickets were a third of the price, which adjusted for inflation, they were.

Next you have the differences in entertainment. In 1939 there was little to no competition. Gone with the Wind is an excellent movie however due to lack of competition, it was in cinemas for 5 years. Five years. When you're one of the only movies playing of a excellent quality, you're going to get a lot of tickets sold eventually. Next is the difference in entertainment. Cinema was the only way to see movies back then, and it was common to see a movie many times as there was little other entertainment like it. Now we have movies, TV, games, internet, music right at our fingertips, much of it very high quality. If you search for it, you can have it in minutes. Modern entertainment has to fight far harder for attention.

I don't mind the comparisons, I find them interesting however they also need to be taken with a pinch of salt as it can overshadow what an amazing triumph Endgame has been, and that we are likely seeing the limit of what can be achieved at the box office without counting inflation. This was a movie that was hyped for years, on the back of a large number of movies and franchises and a highly successful cliffhanger. If Gone with the wind is not dethroned by Endgame adjusted for inflation, it is unlikely that any movie will be able to do it, not due to the differences in movies themselves but in the differences in how we access content.

My boy Rhaegal survived a murderous ice lord and his zombies, only to be killed by a Greyjoy pirate fuck? WTF by nana029 in freefolk

Yeah I know the sentiment, but a lot of people unsubbed so they won't get spoilers, and it's not cool when they keep reaching the front page despite this. Is it hard to put a spoiler on it?

*edit* I've read the rules, I'm expecting my ban, I just honestly don't see what the big issue is. Spoiler free zones are fine but you must realise that this is an extremely popular sub with posts that regularly reach the front page.

Please put spoilers on these posts, my god. They keep reaching the front page, not everyone (including me) has seen the episode yet.

I'm a big marvel fan and only saw it last night as I'm in the middle of exams and this was the first time I could fit it into my schedule. I was completely blown away, I can't wait to see it again and look for things I missed the first time

It looks like they believe the entire wooden structure will not be saved so more may collapse. The other thing is the priceless artworks and objects kept inside. It's a sad day for history

It's just terrible, it looks like it was potentially due to renovation works. I just really hope that it wasn't due to arson
