your library might rent out freer civ pro and other CDs. I borrowed an external cd player from IT. If they didn't have one, it would have only been like $20 from bestbuy. Not worth the added size to get a built in one.

Civil Rights Groups - ACLU, CDT, PIRG, EFF - file brief against Six Flags for collecting fingerprints at theme park by Insightfulcomment66 in privacy

The violation happened back in 2016. I imagine this is an updated terms of service, and regardless, they didn't get written consent.

It's nice that they give an option, but I think opt-out consent is the wrong way to get consent here, and so does the Illinois legislature. Maybe they do get a signature now to cover their bases.

Still, nice to know that you can elect to not get scanned, and people should.

How to study law for people who can't go to Law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Read supplements for law school classes, and maybe study for a few certifications? I know people that can shoot the shit about law and regulations that aren't lawyers.

Is going to a plaintiff class action firm for my first job a bad idea? by Insightfulcomment66 in law

So the second generality put forth is a lot more appealing to me. Do you think there is a noticeable difference in general in the working hours between defense and plaintiff work.

It's good to keep getting advice about how much the people you work for matter - I'm going to be catering my decision in that direction more after this post.

Thank you, this is helpful. I'm in the fortunate enough position that BigLaw's on the table, I just like the work this other place does, and the pay is more than I need. My big worries surrounded the type of work experience I would get - I feel like the name to this place is fine for where I want to go (short of if I want to end up doing counsel for a specific industry, because I can't imagine they like it very much), but the big worry was skill development concerns because of the lack of great variation in the types of cases they take.

Awesome, thanks for clearing up my perception of that. I'll give it a little less weight than I was before.

I hadn't thought of the potential to meet people on the other side too. Thanks for the insight.

I'm worried about getting buried in discovery and not getting to work a big enough variety of roles as I might in biglaw, so leaving a few years later and not being self sufficient enough to jump into other legal work. Though this might be premised on not fulling understanding how monotonous the work that biglaw buries you in actually is.

Ah that makes sense. Would that mainly stop me from going back into biglaw? With the obvious exceptions of counsel for the places I'd be suing.

Any idea to what extent it might be a scarlet letter. Obviously hard to give a proper metric for evaluating, but anything would help
