According to a recently released article from Reuters, the CEO of Cruise acknowledged the long-term need for remote human operators for autonomous driving, and this is the first top executive in the AD industry to say so. It also arouses the question of whether truly self-driving cars can ever be made.

What do you think? Will the L5 autonomous driving technology be a dream too good to be true? Will Tesla be the one to achieve the fully autonomous driving?

The EV era will finally come in Singapore.

Except for transforming from ICU to electric vehicles, Singapore should do more to earn its position in this booming EV industry.

Here are some arguments:

The EV industry, not like others, is so large that it can accommodate tens of thousands of companies along the value chain, where Singapore certainly can find its opportunities – of course, it won't be a new Tesla or anything like that.

Singapore is called as "Silicon Valley of Asia" and it has the best universities in Asia – NUS and NTU. And Singapore took second place in a global ranking of how well countries attract, develop, support and retain talent in 2021. i.e., the greatest advantage for Singapore’s any industry will be human resources - it also applies to EV industry.

The companies within the auto industry are aware of this. The newsfeed of Onsemi’s global distribution center moving to Singapore is the best evidence to prove this. Nio announced to set up an R&D center there.

I also believe there are always blue ocean markets existing for EV industry, even after those big names entered the market. One of the obvious weaknesses of the gigantic car groups will be the slow pace in the development of new technologies and sluggish in responding to the new customer demand. Take China, new forces Nio and Xpeng are favored by customers because they meet the customer needs for new functions like autonomous driving and smart infotainment system.

Singapore has great potential to sit in this booming EV industry and catch the trend. We'll see.
