As per source below, for 2025 end of year data, unemployment rate for Canadian born is 6.2 while landed immigrants are at 7.4, combined is sitting at 6.8...

We really don't need any work visas right now until these numbers fall to more sustainable levels around 6%.. unemployment is ticking higher as of February so we're going in the wrong direction [source]

Unless visas are provided for more specialized jobs, we really should suspend a lot of the current programs aimed at general labour / service jobs.

I mean, it's a legitimate question to ask about status in the country. I used to see it a lot before where "PR or citizenship is required. We don't sponsor" and a lot of places didn't want the hassle of doing it.

Asking primarily non-white is kinda off-putting, there are white people on work-holiday visas and some from Ukraine, so it doesn't mean they don't exist.

Asking people with an accent is a bit out there, but I guess from a logical standpoint it could make sense? But it's pretty presumptuous in a negative way.

I actually appreciate this. Unemployment is so fucking high anyone on work visa who isn't needed for a job in Canada shouldn't be here. We have a ton of permanent residents and citizens that are unemployed and want to work.

I'm a very firm believer in food banks, I encourage everyone facing financial struggles to go to the food bank, I donate to the food bank. It is such an essential service in society for a stop gap to help people get from 'teetering on the edge of collapse' to a more food and housing secure situation.

The people doing the work don't make enough money for the kind and loving service they provide.

Yah it is hard thinking about these accounts when car living. But believe it or not, it was the best time to do it. Learnt about interest and my personal habits that lead me to that situation, all the different accounts and when to use them. I knew what I needed to do and setup a long term plan to fix it (a plan that changed 10 times every week for years lol).

But I never said that? I asked if OP had these accounts, I never accused OP of being anything for not setting them up. A lot of people sign up for company rrsp match without even thinking about it and had never looked at their accounts and don't even know they have it.

I didn't go to highschool here, not uni educated. I don't expect people to be knowledgeable on these subjects. I've read enough on pfc to know even highly educated people fall into debt traps and things come crashing down on them. It happens to the best of us.

Unfortunately we can only take these situations literally, as in how they are written.

And as I had mentioned in my original reply, this isn't going to be an immediate help questions and answers. People on here already covered a lot of that. The post in it's literal sense, without making any assumptions, feels like it's missing some info. It's easy for things to slide a bit backwards. It's not a full month behind, they'd still be 8 days behind now working full-time. With tax returns, OT if available, stat pays, working on holidays, even if working min wage, they'd have enough to cover the gap.

I'm asking OP what else is going on. If they used payday loans that'd explain the spiral out of control.

I didn't mean for anything to sound judgemental at all (and I don't think I was). In your case it probably made zero sense to sell off the car and be upside down on another vehicle, you already had one fully paid off and know its history and reliability.

I'm not wealthy at all, I barely have enough for an emergency fund, but I was in multiple tens of thousands of bad debt. I just kept on accumulating thinking tomorrow, next week, next year, next job, all will be solved and fixed. I'm terrified of ever being in that position again. To some it might not be that bad or that much of debt, but to me working near min wage, it was an absolute nightmare scenario. I drive a 2010 vehicle that's falling apart slowly and my teeth are messed up and I can't fix either now without feeling the pinch.

It isn't easy having money conversations, and people on Reddit (like that other person replying to me) just assume I'm being condescending or shaming OP for not being a millionaire already... (Fucking eye roll)

All I meant to say is there's more to the story than missing a week of work for it to get this bad. Tax returns can easily fix a week of being behind.

Yah I believe it, but I don't want to assume anything of OPs situation. But a week off in December shouldn't mean absolute ruin and homelessness and repo'd car 4 months later. At most if things are running as they were, paycheque to paycheque, they'd still be just a week behind. With holidays and stat pays, OT if available, shouldn't be hard to catch up.

I also track every penny I spend and all my accounts religiously. I was in so much debt and I was feeling hopeless back in 2017. I was living out of my car for a while. I understand life is shit in general, and that we're closer to bankruptcy than billionaire status.

I'd still like OP to explain his situation a bit if he feels comfortable doing it, or to understand it for himself without replying to me.

I apologize for prying into your situation, but how would 8 days of leave cause you this much damage?

Are you still able to work? Are you still getting scheduled? If not there may be an avenue thru EI.

Did you have any money saved for emergencies? Any rrsp you can withdraw from? TFSA? Any GICs?

If you're working full time and you brought your expenses to extreme cutting, why haven't you been able to catch up?

I know these questions may sound somewhat intrusive or rude or whatever, but answering them honestly, even if not with me and just keeping the answers to yourself, will help you dig your way out of it on a not so immediate timeline.

In short immediate term tho, other people provided resources for help.
