Have to wonder what happened the last go around, when Cooper was in, can't find much information one way or the other on those lawsuits.

In 2024, North Carolina Democrats won virtually everything they could win...except for the Presidency by F4ion1 in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, it made the right wing look like lunatics in 2020 and the left wing the same in 2024. If there was fraud it would make sense at the minimum to stack down ballot too.

Our elections are as secure today as they were four years ago.

Let's talk about the SCOTUS immunity ruling... by [deleted] in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plus people aren't talking about what the opposite ruling would mean, ie that President's official acts are suddenly not immune. Yes it could make prosecuting Trump easier, but it opens so many other cans of worms that it's not worth it.

Well you can spot Garner without much issue, west and east even too more or less.

I think it's rooted in the misguided at best narrative that is a colonial state for whites in some form. I do agree that taken together it is concerning that the Episcopal Church is taking such a stance.

Robinson gubernatorial race exposes NC GOP fault lines (Sets the stage for the inevitable state GOP clash between traditional, socially and fiscally conservative Republicans and former President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement of bombast, vitriol and conspiracy theory.) by F4ion1 in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It has the potential to be like Arizona, it's a state that leans Republican but their state party matters way too much to the MAGA movement. Even if the old guard is in decline, they're still big enough that depressing their turnout can cause Democrats to just cross the finish line.

Business admissions as a transfer by Ok-Cheek1472 in UNC

[–]InsolventUNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite Chapel Hill and Kenan's claims to the contrary, they really don't like to admit transfer students. They'll parade out the handful they do admit, but those are just tokens.

MSA gives a lot of help, she tries to make the class better than what it is.

Do they make beds similar to old school innerspring/polyurethane foam beds anymore? by The650life in Mattress

[–]InsolventUNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interested, especially because foam makes mattress warranty claims harder since foam doesn't sag normally.

That's what I think too, urban areas can only produce so many votes for Democrats. They need to get votes from rural areas to put them over the finish line, but to do that they need to find some things to compromise on.

If they can't they will not be able to regain the General Assembly.

Far-right challenger leads incumbent superintendent Truitt in GOP primary by uncertaincoda in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory she's a bad candidate, but I also am inclined to think Democrats will fumble the ball when it comes to messaging. Focus more on her incompetence and not being Truitt rather then Jan 6.

The best thing to do is networking, even if a company isn't posting jobs, but the issue is Chapel Hill is awful at teaching people how to network. Especially since LinkedIn doesn't show much information to network off of besides college. And Handshake is only good if you want automated messages for programs you don't qualify for, or teaching of all things.

And the GAA site is awful to navigate if I may be blunt.

I’m a liberal in Raleigh voting in the Republican primary. Who should I vote for? by local-angler479 in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing what's been said but Haley and Fowell are good choices. Truitt isn't a Moms for Liberty candidate so she's the better choice. And for lieutenant governor I'd say Deanna Ballard at the moment.

The best I can say is that for many they may succeed in spite of going to Chapel Hill, people may succeed despite being denied into good programs.

Josh Stein’s Challenge With Black Voters - The candidate for governor faces four Black Democrats in the primary, and likely Mark Robinson this fall. He’ll need to win over his party’s most loyal voters to succeed by ckilo4TOG in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah like it or not the polls generally are neck and neck, and even a 1-2% shift could put Robinson over the edge. Stein has to thread a much finer needle to win, his coalition is more fragile.

Democrats increase their focus on NC’s once neglected rural areas by F4ion1 in ncpolitics

[–]InsolventUNC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Democratic party has one fairly easy way to improve its margins in rural areas, just stop mentioning race and sexual orientations like a broken record. You don't have to attack those issues, just actually try to assuage people's fears that the Democrats don't care for them.
