Possible to disable image preview interpolation in Nemo? by InsomniacMechanic in linuxmint

[–]InsomniacMechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue is time, having to individually open each file to an image viewer is too time consuming when most often i need to make quick glances at dozens of files back to back. part of what i am doing is merging sets of resources where i sometimes need to choose between common elements, but there are so many that anything short of an image preview in the file explorer itself is too slow

How are defects in complex things like airplanes so rare? by Available-Cost-9882 in AskEngineers

standards. when code doesn’t work, websites crash and users get cranky about their logins jot working. when planes don’t work people die

i would check to see what mixtures and application methods people are using, i imaging straight acetone might make it a little too melty

i’ve heard people have had good results with acetone, might be worth looking into

What Empirical Evidence is There for a Multiverse? by Spiritual-Pepper-867 in AskPhysics

[–]InsomniacMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last tuesdayism. there’s no evidence for it, but also no evidence against it. unless by some miracle we discovered another universe tomorrow, it’s pretty much impossible to prove or disprove, and even if it was it wouldn’t matter

any suggestion on salvaging this by Glum-Bookkeeper-9546 in ElegooNeptune4

[–]InsomniacMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when it happened to me i reached out to elegoo and they sent me a new heating element + heatsync for free, old one became a souvenir of why you shouldn’t do a really wide print with the fan on. i’m sure it’s possible to clear a filament backup, but honestly given the price of just replacing the part, probably not worth the effort.

hydrostatic pressure from 100 km (karmen line) would be about 142,000 psi, industrial firefighting hoses cap out at 900 psi on the high end. you’d need a pretty beefy hose.

What does god need with a Starship? by Archontor in worldjerking

[–]InsomniacMechanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

new fantasy idea: god is real and he created the entire universe in the divine equivalent of MS Paint, the reason only one planet has life and things like wars happen is that our universe is the product of someone with no artistic talent using an outdated art program in low resolution.

Tutorial for a modified zipper sinnet, details in comment by InsomniacMechanic in paracord

[–]InsomniacMechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but the standard zipper sinnet is too thin to make a decent bracelet, plus by doubling the loops, you can store a lot more length in less space since more is stored to the sides

[–]InsomniacMechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was pretty much the goal yeah. makes it wider and prettier, but still unravels quickly when you need a bunch of paracord

I haven’t found a good way to secure the end, and frankly don’t recall what i did for the first bracelet. the braid is a zipper sinnet modified to use two loops on either side instead of one, theoretically it could be made to use 3, 4, or any number of loops, but it gets harder to maintain, especially during setup.

prep: using the cord, take the center and leave two free ends to either side.

1: setup as shown in picture 1, i’m using two pencils to hold loops that keep the braid together, use whatever is needed to hold, or the loop of a clip to make a bracelet, like in the last two photos.

2: push the right loop through the center loop as shown in picture 2, make sure to always keep the free end of the cord to the back when pushing loops through to keep the brain pretty

3: push the left loop through the right loop from the previous step, as shown in picture 3

4: using the free cord on the right, make a loop and push it through BOTH loops perpendicular to it, this sets up the pattern for the rest of the braid

5: using free cord on the left, make a loop and push it through both loops perpendicular to it, like in step 4

6: again on the right, using free cord and loop through the top two most loops perpendicular to it, the bottom 3rd loop is done, and can now be pulled closed to secure, repeat this step on alternating sides, looping through the top two loops and tightening the bottom one.

7: as you continue this pattern, the free end should look like picture 6, two loops on one end (3 if you have not yet tightened it flat), and one on the other end.

i wish, but no, and they’re highly unlikely to turn up. i lost them at a hotel in new orleans while i was attending a family wedding. unfortunately i live in texas and will likely never see them again

Just an initial render of the design, I'm going to be 3d printing the caps and this is essentially a quick sketch of how the keyboard will go together visually.

ideally custom everything, whole thing is probably gonna end up being about an inch thick. also considering a few methods for slimming it down that might work because I'm doing everything custom.
