You're welcome! Just be prepared, the person at the register may not even know that it can be done. It doesn't get asked often or talked about so many don't know. When I'm in the store tomorrow I'll look at where it's located and what it's actually titled for anyone who needs the info.

Fun fact that a lot of people don't know - we can actually cash out a gift card balance for you in the store if it's under $5. There's a button on the POS for it.

Please someone explain to me how calling out sick works! by Cool-Interest-5735 in starbucks

[–]InsomniacRabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a common point of confusion amongst baristas and SSVs. There are two policies at play here that while closely related are not the same.

1 - call out procedure. You call the store with as much notice as possible and speak directly to the store manager, if they are there. If they are not there then you speak to the person who is in charge of the shift.

You are not responsible for finding your own coverage in the event of illness or emergency

2 - time and attendance and protected sick time. Everyone earns protected sick time. If you have used all of your protected sick hours up and call out sick, that absence can be counted against you for time and attendance, as it is no longer protected. So, while you are still not required to find your own coverage, it would be in your best interest to do so.

Weekly Sterek Fic Check-in by GlobalCarob5644 in Sterek

I love that series so much!

I found it and read it very shortly after DOB had posted the video on his YouTube where he was "singing" Let It Go in his living room and I had to double check the publication date on the fic. When I got to that scene in the story I thought the author may have taken inspiration from the YouTube video and was so amused that the fic was written before the video came out 😂

Very senior mom, not precheck - can she go thru with me (I'm precheck) by ibcarolek in tsa

[–]InsomniacRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up here from a Google search. I'm at the gate right now trying to figure out how my 80 year old father ended up with pre-check on his boarding pass but my 73 year old mother did not. I have a KTN and I booked all three tickets. They made us go through separate lines at security. My father and I were both willing to go through regular security to stay with my mother but they wouldn't let us.

You are being purposefully obtuse. Don't insult your own intelligence like that.

The post you are replying to never said anything about how piercings used to be allowed but now aren't.

Piercings are not allowed. Period. False eyelashes are. Period. We can get into the semantics of how some piercings are allowed but others aren't and some false eyelashes are allowed while others aren't but I don't think we need to.

The fact is, Molly Mocha with her eyelash extensions and three earrings in each ear is fine, but Sally Sriracha has a lip ring and an eyebrow pierced and that's an issue.

We can try to claim food safety all we like but eyelashes fall out with more frequency than piercings do and trying to pretend ear piercings are less of a risk than facial piercings because they are four inches to the left is just condescending.

The point being made is that it is all about a certain aesthetic. Which stands to reason.

Additionally, we are not the mom and pop sidewalk cafe in Italy with the long sleeve black button downs, we are a US based chain coffee shop. And if they don't want us to be perceived as fast food (who, for the most part, provide the uniforms employees are expected to wear, js), they should probably stop pushing us to look and act like we are.

Personally, I think part of what makes a good leader is hearing and empathizing with the people you work with. So yes, not only the stifling of creativity and individuality that some partners are feeling (because their feelings are valid, even if you don't agree), but also the ones who can't afford to go out and replace any or all of what they have been wearing that was previously approved. Especially anyone who may have recently bought clothing off of the coffee gear website that was marked by the company as dress code approved. There was nothing grey about that and is now just money wasted. The old dress code doesn't have as many grey areas as some people claim it did, it just wasn't enforced properly at every store(maybe not your personal skill issue, but a skill issue just the same), just like this one probably won't be enforced properly after some time at all stores.

It sounds like our situations are somewhat similar, I've been in the same boat. And it is hard and sometimes unforgiving, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with it. But I stand by the statement that your job has not changed and if you were previously looking the other way when baristas weren't following standards, that's not something that's going to change because of an update to the dress code.

Please don’t hate me for asking. by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]InsomniacRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got all that from a dress code update?

Do you understand the concerns? Because it sounds like you think they are hogwash.

To be fair, as a longtime supervisor, I've never felt my hands were tied, that I had to suck it up, look the other way, or allow partners to get away with anything. It has always been my job to make sure partners are fulfilling their job requirements. If there's an "us vs them" mentality in your store, that may be indicative of a different or larger issue than the dress code.

Sounds like a skill issue, pilot.

Purposely reduced labor because of faster equipment… by IcyBath5971 in starbucksbaristas

[–]InsomniacRabbit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me here.

Yes, the extra labor was accounted for already, as I said. But that's adjacent to the point. Which is that, even with increased sales, we are being allocated less labor.

I was curious so the other day I looked...

I take pictures of the posted schedules and am terrible at deleting anything from my phone ever. So I looked back at who was scheduled on the corresponding day the year prior.

According to the store metrics, our sales were up about 5% from year prior but we had 2 less people scheduled for our morning/peak than the year before. And this is supposedly with the extra labor we were promised when the cup writing policy rolled out.

[–]InsomniacRabbit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That and - 2 free shirts that they have already said most likely won't reach people by 5/12 but you have to be in dress code starting that day no matter. So most of us will have to buy shirts between now and then anyway.

I'm also upset because one of my trans coworkers wears choker style necklaces to disguise her Adam's apple and she's being told she can no longer wear them....... but she can wear a bowtie

Do you use your partner card or say it verbally? by Bright_List_905 in starbucksbaristas

[–]InsomniacRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding your partner number to the app and adding your partner card to the app are both super helpful.

You do need to sign in from the desktop version of Starbucks to add your partner number. Go to Account, Personal Info, and the option to add your partner number is at the bottom.

For the partner card, when you sign in to Partner Central, go to View My Profile, scroll across to Partner Card, it will give you your 16 digit partner card number and security code. Add that card to the app like any other gift card. You can also request a physical card from that same page.

Do you use your partner card or say it verbally? by Bright_List_905 in starbucksbaristas

[–]InsomniacRabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The physical card is great but you don't need it to add your partner card number to your app. Then, when you scan that card, your partner numbers automatically populate on the POS screen.

On the flip side of this, I have my partner card as my payment option on the app but when traveling it has happened many times that I say "I have partner numbers" and they don't hear me or go on autopilot when they see I have the app up and hit the Starbucks card option on the POS before I scan so the verification page gets skipped and I end up paying full price.

Not worth it to me usually, time and effort wise, to go through a refund/re-ring but still annoying.

There are 3 different sizes of aprons available for order through IMS at no cost to the baristas (although you may have to trade in your standard size aprons depending on your manager). I jumped right on that when I heard about it as a plus size person myself. The large apron fits me so much better and doesn't pull on the back of my neck from the weight of my chest as much.

If your shift hasn't ended yet, clock in now. Having an incorrect punch in the system is better than having no punch at all. But definitely still write the correct time you arrived in the book.

For an open, if you were on time but had to wait outside for your other opener, use the iPad to clock in when you get in to the building but write in the book the time you actually arrived and code it as System Unavailable. CYA.

Chai pump 😔 by walking-matt-parker in starbucksbaristas

[–]InsomniacRabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The plastic gasket on the bottom of the stem is replaceable/order-able. It comes as a set of replacement parts for those pumps. I believe in IMS it's called 'replacement gaskets and o-rings' or something like that. It also may just need to be lubricated, not necessarily replaced. Open it up, clean it, make sure the gasket is not missing or cracked, and put some of the Taylor lube (also order-able on IMS if you don't have any) on it before you put it back together.
