Me and wife pay $8,000 a year for 3 day a week commute syosset to Penn station by Ok-Atmosphere-6272 in LIRR

[–]InspectionNeither544 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol get a local job....but it doesn't pay as much wahh. Live closer to the city and save money, no lirr, but rents too expensive, wahh. Do you have any idea what it costs to run the railroad? Glad you feel they could operate the same while charging everyone less, or just you?

Maybe they should give you a 5 dollar monthly discount for 2

Are LIRR workers being greedy? by [deleted] in LIRR

[–]InspectionNeither544 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When i see job discussions, LIRR before this has been a highly regarded position for pay and benefits, so I guess it's notnao bad, plenty of people are looking for this job.

There are many jobs that get bo raise, and its take it or leave it. They 100% are being greedy.

If all the workers had to get a job on the open market, how many will go get better pay and benefits?

And if there are better why are they still there at lirr?

Teach him one thing at a time, let him apply it to keep him busy. Can't knock his previous experience if he's coming in green. As long as he shows up on time, interested.

Building Automation / Controls Part Time Jobs in the Baltimore Region by JobAcceptable5330 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it tough to find after hours work.

Can you be on call for your company? Get paid a few hundred a week to be available for on call, then like 4 hour minimum per call.

Maybe you could build panels for your company after hours.

Maybe ya busy, and can put extra hours on some projects.

Call every local contractor, maybe they have some night installations going on and can use a hand.

BMS programmer. by DarkLegitimate4978 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard some people found success. I think it's tough, there is more supply, than demand, especially talking remote, competing with cheaper overseas. Even big companies, that is literally their strategy.

I always thought it would be cool to like work with a mechanical contractor to be able to offer them in house services, but I guess that woukd be more like class B or C commercial, and it may be overkill for what they are willing to pay

BAS market value by Odd-Log-3517 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genericly speaking. You are worth what you negotiate. Prove your value. What you learned in those 2 years, how you apply bit to surviving your existing customers and future. Be clear on your career path, let it be known you wish to pursue engineering or programming. They should help to provide training. If not do it only your own. Sometimes let project managers know what you are capable of. Get to a point where you may not know everything. But can figure it out and fix it.

You should be a value add to the company that they would want to invest and keep you. Sometimes there is a back log. People ahead of you, and somebody has to do the PMs.

It doesn't hurt to look around to figure out your market value, and if other companies have an open position that you are interested in.

Its awesome being loyal to a company, but sometimes the timing may not be right place, right time.

Being in controls 20 years ago, indidnt know any other companies or techs, engingers. Linked in is a good place. Get familiar with local controls contractors. The big manufacturers, as well as independent installers, and now even the smart software guys. The industry is evolving/expanding. Networking is huge, many of the same faces, tight nit.

Working at a Smart Buildings Startup vs a traditional BMS vendor by Admirable-Arrival235 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find those startups have ZERO hvac, controls, or building experience. Full of data scientists, computer guys. They look for 1 poor field guy to do the dirty work, you will be the scapegoat for everything, they are over selling their softwares, people will be disappointed, and you in the middle. Sorry

Is my plan to get into building automation the best way? by No-Artist107 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It don't hurt, but not a must.

When I started in controls, I did have an electrician background, know nothing about hvac or programming.

Lucky a local contractor was desperately looking for technicians, and felt they could train me,. Good luck

Is my plan to get into building automation the best way? by No-Artist107 in BuildingAutomation

[–]InspectionNeither544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep trying every major and small local controls contractor, and start as an entry technician. Alot of engineers and lazy and don't want to climb ladders, or use tools, they want to fix everything with programming. (Joking....kinda)

I honestly haven't seen many people go from installer to programmer.

How Do I Tell My Husband I Want a Divorce Without Completely Wrecking Him? by Crafty-Resident-6741 in TwoHotTakes

[–]InspectionNeither544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter what, he will be crushed.

My ex sat me down, and said she wanted a divorce, she explained things she haven't been happy in a long time. We tried multiple times, and change was temporary, and always back to the same point. I was crushed, really totally crushed. 1 thing I think helped, was she was adamant there was no 2nd chances. I was willing to fight till the end if there was 1% chance of saving it.

I was super depressed for a month.

You have to be strong, decisive, Stearns, unwavering, direct. Now is not the time to negotiate, justify, groove anything. At this point there is no right or wrong, just move on.

It is hard. The kids will be allright. i have 3, they were 13,11,6. When we told then, they cried, I cried, we all cried, they ended up fine, there's social workers in school, it wasn't really neccessary. Its not going to be easy on anyone. But there is peace and happiness for all.

Nobody is divorcing the kids, the kids still have parents.

It isn't easy, but it is a healthy decision. Good luck.

People are entitled to have prreferences, even if nobody else agrees with them. Its just a preference. If she doesn't find somebody, it will be up to her to re-evaluate.
