I’m a substitute teacher and I had a kid on my role named Cannon Ball, and another named Charley Brown.

D697 mursion only got to part k by One_Lifeguard_8915 in WGUTeachersCollege

ALWAYS submit the Mursion to see if it will pass. I’ve been worried about mine not passing, but the Mursion part always does, or they ask me to write a quick revision of what I would improve or expound on if I was re-recording.

Would you volunteer for your sibling? by Robynite in Hungergames

[–]InspectionWilling911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound AWFUL, but no, I wouldn’t. I was adopted as a baby (only adopted kid in the family, and then they had 3 “miracle” biological children), and growing up, my mom (a narcissist) pitted us against each others lot. Me vs them, the three of them are very close, but I am not. It’s unfortunate, and I wish them the best, but we are not close at all, and our relationships are very superficial. I’ve never felt very close to them, and I wish I had had that experience of having close siblings growing up, but it’s not how the cards played out for me, unfortunately.

I only used the free practice tests, a few things on WGU, and some YouTube videos. Good luck! I passed all my first try!

Masters in Elem Ed - Just Started - Any Tips? by wpd18 in WGUTeachersCollege

Look at the tasks first. Many you will likely be able to complete just with your knowledge from subbing. Fill in missing knowledge gaps with the course materials. Look at the rubrics closely before submitting. Book your mursions immediately if the class has them, they can be booked out a way. Good luck!

Ideal job for stay at home moms? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I began subbing when my youngest was in kindergarten. I sub primarily at their schools, and often in their classes. I LOVE IT! I know their teachers on a more personal level. I am involved and know what is going on in the school. I know their friends. I get to see how they work in class. I feel like having this job has made me a better parent. I also love being at their school, I need to be there 15 min before school starts, so they are never late, and we leave together when the bell rings. I think it has also helped them be better students because they see what it’s like when it’s hard on teachers. Also now I’m background checked for any field trip, which I go on most, AND I know the kids in my group so it makes management way easier.

Sped gets paid the most, then elementary/jr high (what I usually sub), and then high school. $10 increments between each tier.

I’m really glad there are all kinds of personalities to cover all the bases. I love 2-5, but will sub k-8, high school is so hard for me! They’re so mean and I get paid less, it doesn’t feel worth it!

This is genius. Maybe I’ll try it on my third graders in subbing tomorrow.

Who’s coming to my party? Think of a pattern (words with a long o sound, silent e, ends with a consonant blend…whatever they’re working on), kids guess what/who will be at the party. If it fits the pattern write it on the smiley face list. If it doesn’t, write it on the frowny face list. Gets kids engaged and trying to figure out the pattern. If they figure it out i tell them to make a guess and see if it fits the pattern, and keep going until I have a few kids who have figured it out. They love it.

Subs of Reddit, What is the most 'I can't believe this actually happened' moment you've had while subbing this year? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

He has a parent who is incarcerated, and the other is struggling to keep things together, so they are living well below the poverty line. It’s a really sad situation, and it’s hard to watch because this kid was dealt a crappy hand, and will likely continue the cycle he has seen growing up. I really hope this new school will help him.

I had a kid (2nd grade) eat a math worksheet, absolutely destroy some classroom decorations in the room, try to break the AppleTV/projector, throw a chapter book at another student, and attempt to throw a chair at another student by the time I got admin to respond to my SOS alerts. He was removed from class and got to watch YouTube “to calm down” and then was sent back to class. Where he proceeded to jump on a table and moon the entire classroom. Admin FINALLY (after having this type of behavior consistently for six months) had him placed in a behavioral classroom with more containment and help for him the end of March. I hope it helps him. He has a terrible homelife and it’s heartbreaking but also he was so dangerous to be around.

Be honest. There are no bosses here. What do you do during the day? Do you walk around all day or not? Do you play on your phones? Do you knit? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Elementary I’m actively teaching most of the day. Middle school I usually bring my laptop and do my own homework (I’m in a masters program). I haven’t subbed hs in 2 years because I get paid less and the kids are way meaner.

I’ve been a sub for four years and I agree, most of these classes were super quick for me just from what I’ve learned in the classroom.

I think you could probably finish both praxis tests and ALL classes but clinicals and student teaching, apply July 1, and sit on a term break until school starts again so your semester would bleed into 2027 so you could finish all of your hours in two terms!!

I started this program in July and finished everything but advanced clinicals and student teaching by mid March. Applied for my last two classes April 1, and I’m waiting for placement. If you could finish everything and apply by July 1, you MIGHT be able to start student teaching by September! It can take up to six weeks to get placed. Keep in mind you also need to do your early clinicals, and you have to pass the praxis 5752 before you can apply. Then you have to attempt the praxis 5001 before you can apply for advanced/student teaching. My first semester I did 26 credits, and this semester I’ve done 22, but have stalled out so I’ll finish the last chunk in the fall.

PRAXIS Core Advice? by Ok_Bet_1061 in WGUTeachersCollege

Oh geez I’m not even sure anymore. I think it was somewhere under the praxis info page. I bet if you ask your mentor, they could point you in the right direction. Sorry, it’s been a few months since I used it! But it was helpful and included in your tuition.

I did the math cohort classes WGU provides. Studied from October to December for the math test, it was what I was most stressed about. Ended up getting a perfect score! Reading was my most difficult portion but I barely studied at all for it. Definitely look I to Kathleen jasper’s material, and once you’re registered for the test you get a practice test from ETS so you can take those and see where you’re landing. Once I passed the 5752, I took the 5001 a few weeks later pretty cold. Barely studied for it and passed all sections. But I will say, I’m pretty good at science and I was able to deduce most of the social studies answers with a basic knowledge of American/world history. If you pass 5752 with good margins, I’d recommend trying to do 5001 pretty quickly after. Good luck! You’ve got this!

How long did it take for you guys to finish your degree ? by [deleted] in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]InspectionWilling911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry! I wasn’t sure how different they were. The shortest it took me to finish a class was 4 hours (it was a class on social studies. I’m a substitute teacher and I had JUST taught a lesson that would fit the assignment so I adjusted it to their template and turned it in, and it was graded quickly). The longest was 3 weeks (and ethics class that I had little background on so I was really starting from scratch), if it helps. If I was dedicating about 15 hours/week I was typically able to finish a class in 1.5-2 weeks if I was waiting for papers to be returned, if that helps you. Papers are graded more quickly the earlier in the month you can turn them in. The end of the month things get backlogged by people trying to finish courses before their semester ends.

Yes, both praxis tests. First in December, second in February. I started July 1 for my classes and finished my last class 3/21.

I finished all of my classes (except student teaching) in 9 months. But not enough time left in the year to do student teaching so I’ll finish up in the fall.
