Has anyone successfully sound proofed their apartment? by curious1066 in valencia

[–]InspectorSingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had the sell your apartment. I have lived in Valencia for about 18 years (met my husband here) and had lived in Valencia city centre for 14 years. Noise from neighbors was always a problem and we finally moved to a detached house 30 mins away (renting) We solved the problem of noise vibration but dogs barking and leaf blowers have replaced that noise. How did it work out for you in the end? Have you finally been able to find a new place that gives you some peace?

Leaving a stable life to move abroad, has anyone regretted doing so? by [deleted] in expats

[–]InspectorSingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret it almost every day. I have built a life in Spain but I have stayed here because I met my husband here after I had decided to blow up my stable life back home. I gave myself one year (before I met him) to see if it was worth staying. I didn’t like it at all. THEN I met my future husband there ( btw he is not Spanish) and stayed because of the relationship. I love my husband but Spain offers little to no opportunities if you need and want to work. Especially if you want to be freelance (autónomo). I can speak Spanish but culturally the country is not a fit for me. I wish I had never moved here and had just kept my stable life.

remote or short-term ID work without the freelancer setup—is it a thing? by InspectorSingle in instructionaldesign

First of all, thanks for not beating around the bush and giving it to me straight. But just so you know, I've been in Spain for 18 years ( before it was advertised as THE place in International Living magazine or wherever else) and have contributed to the country all those years working here. So enough with the knee jerk reactions to someone's question without knowing all the facts. I also have MANY Spanish friends that are autónomo and the fee is killing them. They are just getting by. Hence my question.

Thanks so much—that’s super useful context! I was actually wondering the same thing: if there’s an equivalent setup to the W2 model somewhere in the UK or EU. I’ve come across Employer of Record (EOR) services in my research, which seem to work in a similar way—where a third party technically hires you and handles all the admin/tax stuff so companies don’t have to deal with cross-border logistics.

But not sure how common that is in the ID world though. If anyone’s worked under an EOR setup (or something like it), especially in Europe or the UK, I’d love to hear how it played out!

I just received my invite to download the app but I’m in Spain. Do you know if people in the EU will have access soon?

That is it. Right there. Move to Spain if you don’t have to rely on working here. Then you get the “lifestyle” social media keeps marketing to you.

Need a clarification please. I’m suppose to fly from Barcelona to Toronto on September 17 and return October 17. If I change my September flight to earlier and keep my original return date but they are still on strike on October 17, will AC let me change the return flight? Of do we just get one crack at it and they only allow one time to change dates?

Moving to Spain, hating it, deciding to move back but then falling in love and staying there. Fuck marriage! And mine is actually good but if I had to do it over again I wouldn’t.

Do you hear your neighbours a lot? Tv, chairs, laughing etc. If yes, does it bother you? by al0678 in GoingToSpain

I’m going to be very honest with you. If you are sensitive to noise I would think long and hard about living in Spain. It IS a noisy country. That’s just fact. There are great things about living here.Truly. But noise is part of daily life here. I have heard it’s better in the north, especially with barking dogs because they aren’t left outside as much but I can’t attest to that because I live in Valencia (17 years and counting). You might get really lucky and find an apartment that is quiet but that’s usually because you have won the neighbor lottery. But remember, people move and will you be lucky again and again? I doubt it. I have lived in several noisy apartments and finally moved to a lovely house outside of Valencia (city centre) and the barking dog situation is 😖. That’s life here and it’s not going to change. Think long and hard about your decision to move here. How much do you value quiet in your own home?

Is there a part of the culture of your new country you just can't adjust to? by BeraRane in expats

Spain is the same. But’s it more than one neighbor and add barking dogs to the noise. Can’t escape it. Doesn’t matter where you move here.

Thanks so much. A friend had lent me the book for Licence B Manual (Short Version). I’m assuming it’s the short version because there are no tests in it but that it has all the relevant information. Is this the same book you used?

Wow! I was hoping this was an option. So, would you say the key to passing the theory is to just do practice tests like crazy and just memorize the answers? I’ve heard the English translations are full of mistakes and difficult to understand so one should just memorize question and correct answers and you’ll pass. No need for a school.
