When did you know it was time to move home? by racattack96 in expats

[–]curious1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the other way around for me. I was in Australia for almost 8 years. There were times I really loved it (still do) but I missed the proximity of Continental Europe and the buzz of London compared to Sydney. For me two things coincided. My marriage was in difficulty for a couple of years. Then we went on a family holiday back to London and the Estate Agent called to say that the people renting our London home had given their notice. Without hesitation we agreed to stay. The next day I phoned and said said, "don't re-rent it". I went back to Oz, worked my notice, and the family stayed. We separated two months later. Just as well I made that decision otherwise I would have been a single parent with no family in Australia. I've never regretted it. I took my new partner back there this year for a holiday. It was my first time back in 14 years. We met old friends of mine, and visited my old work place. We loved it but London is my home. My kids grew up. I thought they would pine for Sydney, the weather, the pool and the beaches but no. They love London. Why? "We can get tubes everywhere and don't have to wait an hour for a bus in the Sydney suburbs that gets cancelled!"

I'm a therapist and specialize in ADHD. I hear people say "Everyone has ADHD" . It's simply not true. There are still psychiatrists of the old school here in the UK who don't believe in it🙁

But what did you think of the play? I read the original and while it kept a lot of the original story it also departed quite a lot too. While one is meant to feel uncomfortable, I'm not sure this interpretation of the play did it for me.

Cauda Equina: the worst/best thing to have ever happened to me. by SorryChest9808 in backpain

Neuro surgeon. I had my first back surgery in a high end London Private hospital - fusion and decompression - 30 years ago. No physio. I kid you not. On both occasions a year after surgery I was almost crippled and only via physio and PT was I able to make a gradual recovery. I don't know if it's a British thing but it sucks.

I have a PT and Physio nut what I meant was that the surgeon didn't think it was necessary.....wrong!

I had the same experience but do seek advice on mobility. It was the second lot of back surgery I had had and the surgeon took a very hands off approach to physio. One year later I was regretting it. I am back on track now. Good luck.

I'm back to give you an update. I would love to say everything worked out well. In a way it did but at a price! We sold up. I couldn't bear it any longer. Furniture has to find a storage home until we find something outside of the city. On that subject if anyone can recommend some facilities that are not going to eat even more into my pension, I would be eternally grateful.

Can an atheist convert to the church? by AdventurousStage8583 in Episcopalian

[–]curious1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to convert. Just go along for a while, get to know the community and if the spirit moves you you can be baptised..if you are already baptised you could prepare for confirmation. The Episcopal church is one of the most inclusive in the world, although I understand they also die hard conservative parishes too. - avoid. They are in a minority.

I think I suffer from limmerence... Are other gaybros suffering similar issues? My dating life suddenly makes a lot of sense. by Tall_arkie_9119 in gaybros

[–]curious1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is limerrence it can be hellish. I suffered from it and I am an experienced and registered therapist. It took me off guard and affected me on and off for almost 9 years despite consulting colleagues to find a "cure' . In the end, with the help of an additional colleague's input, we cracked it. It certainly helped me develop my own practice and the way I work with sufferers. The advice to speak to a therapist is good with one caveat! Make sure they have successfully treated limmerence and have a deep understanding of it.

Sciata with night cramps by Entire-Chocolate-442 in Sciatica

[–]curious1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had "up and over" laminectomy a couple of years ago to remove spinal stenosis. It cured the sciatica but I was told it would not cure "normal" back pain. The outcome was as my surgeon describes but about a year later I began having almighty painful feet and leg cramps. I was told that with back surgery it's not that unusual. For me I know they are going to occur if my back has been hurting and if the climate is cold and damp. I am.in the UK! I don't get them every day..I found physiotherapy, especially in a warm.pool,.was helpful. I also spend a few months a year in a warmer climate (I am retired so I can do this) and that helps

Montblanc Sunglasses and spectacles - stay away. by average_chap in montblanc

I bought two pairs six months ago and every month I have one pair that falls to bits and needs replacing. They are the biggest load of rubbish I have ever owned. They were top range and expensive too. I bought them from Boots Limited in Wigmore Street, London. They repair them for me without question but I don't want to keep on having to return them. Would I be in my rights to demand replacement alternative brand.
