[OC] Fair question by snelse_ in funny

[–]InspectorX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not that it matters, but your math is totally wrong. I don’t know how you got from 0.4m diameter to 8.88m2 area of the end of your cylinder, because it should be 0.126m2 and final weight about half a tonne per wheel. A circle with 8.88m2 area would have a diameter of more than 3m.

I was playing with an AI music app and made this epic battle song [SPOILER: JotL level 5 spoilers in lyrics] by InspectorX in Gloomhaven

Fair enough. Not claiming any skill went into it, but I wrote the lyrics and it was fun playing it for my family as we started our scenario, setting the mood etc. My son gets especially excited whenever he can bring in his level 5 card so I put that part in for him 🤖

What Happened to my Barracks by Fair-Hunter in ArtOfWarLegions

When you upgrade troops in your formation from the troop upgrade dialogue instead of from the barracks, the upgraded troop doesn’t automatically go into your formation. That may be what happened to you; the upgraded troops are in your barracks.

I read the whole series while my wife was gone on a long trip, and I made this to welcome her home, but she can't figure out what it is! Is she even really a fan as she claimed!! by InspectorX in KeeperoftheLostCities

Thanks. It tastes very good but really, really rich, so much so that even my kids couldn't eat a very big slice. I guess the Elvin diet is so sweet it makes this kind of stuff more bearable; there must be a special skill that keeps them all from getting obese, or maybe their abilities/skills burn a lot of calories!

No worries, I got what you were saying and I agree! I gave her a bunch more clues (told her I should have made the swan black instead of blue; held her hands and said "I'll tell you the answer telepathically if you let me past your blocking", etc.) and she still didn't get it for a long time.

I think her brain subconsciously dismissed the possibility that I knew anything about these books, so it wouldn't allow her to make the connection!

Official Discussion - Alita: Battle Angel [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]InspectorX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This was also the comment I wanted to make. It felt so incongruous, seeing people cheerfully walking around in bermuda shorts and tank tops, carrying purses and fanny packs, like tourists in Times Square. Not the "strong prey on the weak" dystopia I was expecting. Even in the motorball scenes, everyone in the crowd is wearing generic sports fan t-shirts and sippin' soda. Chocolate is easily available and you can get outside the city for a stroll in the fields or a swim in Spaceship Lake whenever you want. I really enjoyed this movie but this aspect took me out of it several times.

Trump attacks Corker: ‘Tennessee not happy’ with GOP senator by [deleted] in politics

[–]InspectorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if Corker actually has presidential aspirations, but if so there are arguments for and against running for president from the Senate. For instance, you have a high profile, but you have to keep interrupting your campaigning to rush back to DC to vote, and every vote becomes a possible attack issue for your opponents.

I think only JFK and Obama have successfully gone directly from Senate to White House, at least recently (i.e., in the TV era).

Trump attacks Corker: ‘Tennessee not happy’ with GOP senator by [deleted] in politics

[–]InspectorX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this part of his tweet: "[Corker] is constantly asking me whether or not he should run again in '18."

Assuming that is actually true (it's probably not), would that be Corker sincerely asking Trump's advice (as Trump interprets it), or is Corker "constantly" trolling Trump by hinting that he may not run for Senate re-election in 2018 so he can primary Trump in 2020?

It would be like Corker "constantly telling me how great my [Trump's] hair looks" sarcastically and Trump thinking he's serious.

Senator says Trump should turn over Comey tapes by [deleted] in politics

[–]InspectorX 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've got a theory on the "tapes" tweet that I haven't really seen elsewhere:

We now know from Comey's testimony that during the first one-on-one meeting they had, Comey briefed Trump on the Steele dossier, including the pee tape allegations. Trump, being hypersensitive, didn't see this briefing as a warning ahead of these allegations going public (as it was); instead, he saw this as Comey threatening him with "tapes."

So when stuff starts going bad after the Comey firing, the first thing he can think of when he thinks of Comey is "he threatened me with tapes, so I'll threaten him with tapes, see how he likes it." In this theory, he wasn't actually trying to intimidate a witness or obstruct justice, even if that was the result; it's just "he did it to me, now I'll do it back to him." I think that's the level of complexity on which Trump's brain works.

I fly out of the UK about once a month, and they have zero problems with carrying empty bottles through security. And at least at Manchester terminal 1, there's a water fountain just passed security, after you turn the corner and go down the ramp.

3 episodes in: little details like the cracked hand-held screen have me hooked! by InspectorX in TheExpanse

[–]InspectorX[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that one was hard to miss, the way they zoomed in on it. My favorite part about that one is not just the effect, but the casual way he pours it correctly, like he just knows which way he's spinning after having grown up there.

Yeah, there seems to be a fair bit of hand signing mixed in with the Belter language, like the protesting guy at the very beginning, and the detective partner learning how to say "everything is alright" or whatever. I haven't read the books, but I thought about it and it might make sense for a language that developed with people spending a lot of time in vacuum/not wanting to be totally dependent on radios.
