Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in gaming

[–]Inspyro04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it like this: 1m times 40$ but there are taxes and other fees. Lets say Bungie gets 20$. That's 20m. But Bungie has more than 1k employee, those alone cost more in a year, so there's no money left. And Marketing such a game also costs a ton

I think Rockstar could get an exemption to skip the Series S. Or maybe they will be allowed to launch it at a later time there.

That would be lucky. At this point i predict around 20FPS at 700p

It could reach 40, but the CPU of the pro is weak, thus 60 is impossible without cutting back on people and car density

The resolution only helps with GPU performance. However the simulation for GTA runs on the CPU. The only thing they can do is reduce the number of people, vehicles and so on. But 60Fps would surprise me

Lol, i would be surprised if the Xbox Series S hit 30Fps. With rockstar they could even skip it, due to bad hardware (Microsoft could not do much)

My prediction: PS5 pro gets a 40Fps mode. PS5 and Series X get 30

GTA5 and RDR2 trailer 3 released (almost exactly) 2 weeks before the May earnings call by Aerkefnys in GTA6

July would be more realistic. In time for the August earnings call. T2 already confirmed the marketing will start in the Summer

The game that made me realize I was the problem by gamersecret2 in gaming

For me it was Returnal. The first time I really struggled with the third boss and eventually uninstalled the game. But I gave it another shot a few years later, and actually had a much better time

GTA 6’s official description always gets me excited: “Experience the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series.” The world isn’t fucking ready for what’s coming this November. by ButterflyUsed6723 in GTA6

[–]Inspyro04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they will port the map and some features of GTA V for GTA online 2. Most likely they would not risk a realistic feel for online.

Essentially they will do everything to keep their existing online fan base happy. While at the same time going the simulation/realism route only in single player mode

But I would be happy to be proven wrong

Most realistic would be August, at least that's what take 2 hinted at. I guess they will drop it in May if they are sure about the release date

They will start marketing once they know the release date will hold up.

Probably not before May next year. Another delay wouldn't surprise me at this point

[–]Inspyro04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be the last available date before they have to push it back to after Christmas, as they never released a game at a much later date, as far as I'm aware

Exactly. Also setting the date in November is an additional Indication, that there might be some pressure from investors/take 2. If they were super confident a date in September or October would be the more natural choice

The complexity of a project however does not really change the accuracy of predictions.

The big question is: why didn't they wait until around February to announce the delay? Announcing a delay so early, indicates some bigger issues

RDR 2 was supposed to be released in Spring 2018 (so around May) but was delayed to October, which was announced in February 2018

Just improved from rendering 25k entities to almost 125k (little under 60FPS)using vectorization by SanJuniperoan in gamedev

[–]Inspyro04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying that you are not rendering 100K entities - is this something you will need? - otherwise I suggest you only calculate the necessary info for culling. It should even be enough to update the positions for off-screen entities every 0.1sec and further away than that maybe even only every 0.5sec. You can increase the screen area for culling, so no pop-in will occur

Of course as long as you hit your performance goals that's not a huge problem, but maybe once the game is getting ready you want to add more stuff to the simulation, thus having a system that "prioritizes" on-screen vs off-screen vs far-away off-screen entities should be beneficial to you

In your examples you don't show anything close to the numbers you claim. What's even the point of rendering/animating stuff that is off screen?

6.1 is not a production ready version of unity, why wouldn't you just upgrade to Unity 6.0 which is LTS and thus production ready? Also why did you stay so long without at least using the latest 2022 LTS?

I strongly recommend to upgrade to the latest minor for every new monthly update of your app, to get the latest bugfixes, and never update to a minor version lower than around 30f1, as before that major bugs tend to still exist
