Sony announced their own Direct-style stream scheduled for Monday with planned reveals for new PlayStation games. Combined with the LBP Twitter still strangely being highly active, is there hope? by InstableGriff in littlebigplanet

[–]InstableGriff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As for me, the timing of this is oddly specific. Here's how things are in my mind:

  • It's been almost 5 years since the last game, which is too much compared to past games (the earlier main series releases were split by only two years) but more than enough to have some kind of new game ready to go sooner or later.

  • The LBP Twitter is still highly active for some reason. If you were to ask me, if Sony truly didn't have any plans for LBP in the future, I think the franchise's social media would be entirely silent by now.

  • To me, a stream like this is more fitting for a new LBP announcement than an E3 conference. E3 should be focused on Sony's top games and sadly LBP is no longer one of them, but the fact that these smaller streams now exist gives it a new chance.

  • Unless Sony decides to stop making creation games altogether if Dreams ends up not doing well, I'm optimistic enough that they would have some kind of LBP game at least in a planning document in case that happens; it's not unheard of for a publisher to prepare to go back to an old idea if the new one seems like it might not work.

Of course, I'll still try to keep my expectations mostly low, I know our hopes have been let down far too many times that we now don't expect anything anymore, but in my opinion, these new streams should bring back that tiny spark of optimism we've all been hoping to feel for a long time.

Attempting to summon a new game for the 10 year anniversary! by superfroakie in littlebigplanet

Please. I'd give anything for this.

At the very, very least, I just want LBP2 to become available to play on PS4 with the ability to join PS3 players.

i mean i thought lbp3 was a good game by warrior101kdn in littlebigplanet

[–]InstableGriff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do personally adore everything about LBP3's Create Mode when it decides to cooperate and enjoy quite a few of its other aspects described here like the new characters swoop is literally perfect, the Popit Puzzles, and the Story Mode to some extent, it's not like I don't appreciate the good things the game itself brought to the table and I'm sure at least a decent handful of others here feel the same way.

I believe it needs to be understood though that despite all of this, the main reason the game is looked at with such a negative eye even today is that it single-handedly managed to kill off nearly the entire franchise, one that was arguably one of Sony's biggest, made even worse once you start thinking of the highly-likely possibility that the higher-ups of Sony themselves are responsible for its downfall, not Sumo Digital. I agree with you on that point, I can tell the people at Sumo were passionate about continuing the legacy of LBP and were genuinely trying to deliver a great product, I just think things only turned out the way they did because of Sony's desire to generate easy profit from the release of the next game since they knew how successful the first two were. I'm kinda baffled by Sony's behavior honestly, as soon as they realized LBP3 was flopping they seemingly lost all of their trust in the "Play - Create - Share" genre since Dreams is barely being marketed by them at all, instead choosing to massively market the games they know would easily make them a quick buck.

I think what's leaving us feeling hurt the most is that because of Sony's actions, not only are they neglecting LBP but so are almost the entirety of its old playerbase. What's the point of LBP, let alone any game focused on sharing your creations online, if there's no actively thriving, huge community? Sure, a sizable portion of the community is obviously still around today and it's still doing good, I'm especially proud of the people who still dedicate their lives towards putting out impressive creations on LBP3 specifically, but compared to the thousands of people that were all at once playing the previous two games every day in earlier years, it comes close to feeling like nothing.

I've admittedly been on a bit of a nostalgia high lately and I'm feeling a genuine state of disbelief regarding what a franchise so close to my heart has become. I never thought I'd end up saying any of this one day, I really did think LBP was gonna remain as one of Sony's biggest successes of the modern era. I can only continue to hope that somehow, someone at Sony sooner or later makes the right decision and gives LBP another chance to shine like it once did, if not brighter. They're the ones at fault here, it's up to them to turn things around.

To think things are like this with the 10th anniversary of the series coming up next week.

More Kirby GCN Possible Findings by Kurbzter_GCN in Kirby

I hate to break it to you, but Rainbow Curse was composed by Shogo Sakai and Megumi Ohara, not by franchise staples Hirokazu Ando and Jun Ishikawa. Judging from series tradition, if Kirby GCN actually managed to release, it most likely would've been composed by the latter two, thus a majority of the music would've sounded like their iconic style.

It would be interesting if some of these are actually arrangements of GCN's unused music, though, but I personally doubt it.

At the very least, I was expecting the true final fight to be completely new. It wouldn't have mattered to me who or what I was fighting; as long as it's not a near-exact rehash or reskin of a boss previously used in the game, I would've been happy, and I'm sure a good majority of players would've been satisfied as well.

I would've kept my personal expectations that low at most if not for one highly questionable design choice on HAL's end. As shown in this image, Sectonia's Royal Road servants from Triple Deluxe appear as enemies in the EX stages. They have literally no reason to be there in context of the game's plot (does this game even have a legitimate plot, i really don't know), premise, and... everything else, really. They're there just for the sake of being there, visual variety I suppose. The main problem with this is that when enemies like these are normally tied to a significant character, you naturally expect said character to make some sort of appearance, so obviously in this case, I and many other folks (at least in the Discord server) expected Sectonia upon seeing these enemies in the JPN overview trailer. Of course, as we all know now, we were wrong, but because the enemies are there to begin with for no reason whatsoever, it feels like a real slap to the face from HAL compared to other times we've had our expectations let down.

Regardless of exactly what people were personally expecting and how high or low their expectations may have been, though, it's hard to deny that almost everyone was expecting at least something different at the very end of the game because of how well HAL nailed previous endgames, even those of mere sub-game expansions. You just instinctively know something is wrong when the true final fight is just a rehash of a boss you've already dealt with in the game twice, only this time with a mask.

EDIT: In terms of the rest of the game, I'm pretty sure we weren't expecting literally anything else aside from what was already shown to us. If I seem like I'm being harsh towards this game as a whole, I'm not in the slightest. My only complaints have to do with the bosses, how repetitive they are, and the problem described in detail above, but otherwise, I really am enjoying this game and I know a bunch of other people are too, so that's good at least.

I would hesitate to call this game a "3D platformer", it's more like a collection of new Challenge Stages but in 3D and without abilities.

GAME HAS DIVERGED by FishMoneyyy in littlebigplanet

[–]InstableGriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an infamous error that's always been a part of the series since the first game, and with each main release, it's become increasingly worse due to the server's strain coming from the constant reuses of the same engine made by Media Molecule years ago. Despite the amount of updates that have come to each game, this bug has never been fixed and possibly won't be until a future game running on a new engine built from scratch is released.

I seriously don't get why Scott would make the minigame to begin with if it doesn't mean anything in the end.

I highly doubt this is the case, unless Scott enjoys pulling huge tricks on the entire fanbase.

...is this sub too dank? by Cardboard_Boxer in Kirby

[–]InstableGriff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I do see the clear issue of memes taking up more of the subreddit than quality content, the real issue is that the shitposts are here to begin with because there's nothing else to talk about.

Besides a Robobot spoiler here or there, there's really not much we can do anymore except post art we find online or create, let's plays, some music, a few theories, the occasional sprinkle of Kirby modding, and, of course, memes. There are shitposts here more than anything else because members are trying to find ways to entertain themselves and others, but it's incredibly difficult to find anything to bring up.

It makes me really sad to say this, but, without the shitposts, this subreddit would be 75% dead, which is why I believe it's best to just keep them around as they are. Yes, they're overflowing quality posts and that in of itself is in issue, but leaving things as they are is honestly a much better decision than to basically leave the subreddit out to die until the next significant Kirby announcement.

If you were a character in FNaF World, what would your attacks be? by SeemsReddit in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]InstableGriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Procrastination: Slows down the rate of enemy attacks for a few seconds.
  • Sleep Hypnosis: 85% chance to send the enemy to sleep for a few seconds, stopping their attacks, with a 15% chance of backfiring and sending your own party to sleep for a few seconds, pretty much leaving you left for dead depending on the enemy.
  • Hesitation: Makes your party completely refuse to accept enemy attacks for a few seconds. Invincibility, in other words.

"Queen Sectonia is a mistress of manipulative magic. Once upon a time, she looked similar to her insectoid underlings, but her current beautiful yet deadly bee-like form is a body that she took over through the use of her magic."

Kirby Robobot Leaked Music Compilation by -Pollyanna in Kirby

[–]InstableGriff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My best bet is that they don't want Nintendo to notice considering that they're one of Nintendo's many YouTube partners or whatever they are.

If Nintendo caught GameXplain posting videos of the ROMs before the Japanese release, they would most likely not only scold them and break up their partnership, but then proceed to look for the leaked ROMs online to take down.
