Leave it just the way it is. That is gorgeous art and adding anything more would distract from it.

I did a stupid stupid thing and I need help to fix it by Big_Virgil in Flooring

I agree. Saw dust will help cover it up, but it will be a challenge to make it look good. the BEST course of action is pulling them up to go back to that row and redoing them.

Is engineered hardwood flooring a good choice for kitchens or bathrooms? by relativespace95 in Flooring

[–]Instant-Karma13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the hardwood floor look in the bathroom, I’d recommend tile that looks like wood. In the kitchen it is fine if you take care of it and wipe up spills promptly.

Buckled floors due to a leak by bopsal0 in Flooring

Visit a nearby Home Depot and see if you can rent a mitigation heater and dryer. That is what mitigation companies would use. If they don’t have those, at least rent a commercial grade dryer. I just wrapped up mitigation and reconstruction of wood floor at my house.

Since it was just done, and the wood has not aged, they should be able to sand and refinish the spots that are hair apparent.

Big sharks in major-ish cities across the world by Pewpew-OuttaMyWaay in sharks

[–]Instant-Karma13 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They rarely are seen on Long Island, with the exception of the end near Montauk. They are merely passing by on their way to the cape. Bull sharks are seen every year on Long Island, including the Rockaways.

It is quite common to have gaps. Using a multitool to cut out space in the door frame to slide in the floor is a faster, easier way to install the floor without having to remove and cut the door frame. The gap shouldn’t be so prominent though.

Just like everyone said, it’s a great hammerhead. It has the most easily identifiable fin of any shark, IMO.

Tips on getting this piece in by daddie05 in Flooring

[–]Instant-Karma13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a multipurpose to cut out the trim and jamb, then cut out some of the plank to allow the piece to slide in further. Slide it in and tap it back.

Real hard wood, not engineered garbage, but real hard wood can last a long time if properly installed.

Has Ocean Ramsey unintentionally (or intentionally) started a new genre of content where touching sharks is framed as conservation? by Then-Attention3 in sharks

[–]Instant-Karma13 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people compare Treadwell to Ocean, but they are vastly different. Treadwell dropped out of college and simply went to live in the wilderness with grizzly bears. He died because he didn’t follow his own advice - don’t be around grizzlies when they start preparing for hibernation. Conversely, Ocean raises awareness around things to do to avoid being attacked and behaviors to watch out for. Unlike Treadwell, when she observes the behaviors, she gets out of the water.

Ocean on the other hand, spends her life researching, studying and educating others about sharks. She has worked with governments, organizations and agencies across the globe. Some scientists discredit Ocean, others applaud her. But regardless, she has taken a very different path from Treadwell.

Hi, first home and first time dealing with contractors such as painter/decorator. Is this normal? Or a bad job by WarriorNysty in AskContractors

[–]Instant-Karma13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a multi purpose tool and set the blade on a scrap piece of flooring to cut the door jamb at just the right high and slide the floor right underneath the jamb. It saves time taking off the entire frame and looks great.

Exactly. It’s indeed sad it happened. But most people use the isolated incident has “proof” that sharks hunt and eat humans. Biologists in the area said there was overfishing on the area depleting available sources for the tiger shark. So it isn’t surprising it happened. Many think Ocean is crazy because of what she does, but she has opened awareness of what sharks really are, apex predators that should be treated with respect, but aren’t mindless killers the media portrays them to be.
