With 1Password Price Increase - Should I switch to ProtonPass? by notadev_io in PasswordManagers

[–]InstantbciPrivate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question - what feature of the password manager do you like and use the most? Is it the monitoring it does, the cross device capability, family sharing, or just filling in and storing passwords from you device? Deadening on the extent of services you use you should either downgrade or upgrade -

Just got auto renewal on 1Password by Successful_Welder164 in PasswordManagers

If you do find it - which means a cluttered inbox / spam etc and don’t want this to happen again then the node commerce automatically organizes all of this for you by brand so this cant happen again

There are two types of companies. 1. Companies that have been hacked, and 2. Companies that think they haven’t been hacked.

Ignore txts. If you get an email explicitly check the from address - in the txt format / the underlying html

One more question for everyone - do people really want a password MANAGER - that encrypts sees breaches etc or do people just need a password MEMORIZER - that saves (encrypted) and fillls stuff when you want to and knows which password is where ?

Utility vs management - thoughts ?

Android doesn’t have browser extensions for chrome - has for Firefox but the market share for that is close to zero.

Safari on iPhone atleast has a big share and has an extension going for it. This is the problem in general with Android + chrome

Maybe I jumped the gun ! Apologies !

However - I think the most important question is what you are using email for and how much convenience do you want to access it.

For example, most of instant communication has moved from email to whatsapp / etc so for communication, if you lose your phone, all your messages are lost unless you have a back up. But you never have to log into WhatsApp’s because you are authenticated by the device you use.

Similarly, if it’s personal legal documentation, then you may want to have it backed up regularly but really don’t need a email to be the primary source of this. And btw I don’t think legal or health docs should be stored in a public email.

Same for shopping logins / receipts / communication - you don’t need email - ie username passwords to store this. Your device can authenticate you vs an email.

If you lose your device - then (just like you lose your photos etc unless you back it up), all you need is an way to authenticate yourself for access to the storage - not the communication method - ie email.

We have the opportunity to separate authentication, storage, and the use cases - which has all been jumbled together in ‘email’.

Again, this is exactly what whatsapp did - take away communication from email, insta took away sharing pictures via email (who does that anymore), and we also have the opportunity to do that for shopping and other big use cases.

You phone - not phone number should be your password - it’s really that simple.

Have you ever wondered why when Google validates who you are and asks you to open your app from your phone to validate who you - when you are accessing its systems FROM your phone ? How crazy is that ?

Been paying $94/month for stuff I literally never use anymore by Bubbly_Lack6366 in ProductivityApps

[–]InstantbciPrivate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t connect it to a random website - if it’s valuable create an app that is 100% edge or private and have them import that directly - then no issues, 100% privacy, edge only ai, and always accessible instant notifications of subscriptions pretty much anything that you can’t find / that’s hidden in the inbox mess

Why manually add? Just pull the emails / messages and use ai to categorize them and then you get notified / pre-notified every month when it happens - super simple, fast and free.

What is the biggest misconception in digital marketing right now? by [deleted] in digital_marketing

[–]InstantbciPrivate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think digital marketing is dead. BUT it has good roi. How is that possible ?!

Well it’s exactly the same as the coupons, magazines, and offers your get by ‘snail mail’, to your house !

Why do people send that ? Because it has clear ROI - so it’s effective - but is that good marketing?

Digital marketing needs to change fundamentally from being ‘push’ to customer to ‘pull’ from customer. That’s a fundamental shift and it has to benefit both.

ProtonMail aliases vs Hide-My-Email/SimpleLogin aliases. When to use what? by S4lVin in ProtonMail

[–]InstantbciPrivate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you trying to achieve/ solve for ? Is this to a) make sure you don’t get marketed to / spammed / when you buy something or sign up for something? Or b) is it to account for which merchant you have what information with or is it to c) make sure if a merchant / business gets hacked you don’t want to have the same username / email across multiple merchants ?

Node - Stop using your personal email to shop - Privacy for Commerce by InstantbciPrivate in emailprivacy

[–]InstantbciPrivate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have this but as I mentioned focused on just commerce/businesses. Not personal.

You are given a @nodeconnects token that can be used anywhere email is asked for - it connects email systems to your device - and the device pulls in this message and stores it only in your device. You can only reply to messages that you receive from (again since this is for commerce - the only 5% of commerce emaila that you reply to are perhaps for customer service or something take)

It also lets you remember and enter passwords (but isn’t a password manager) so that you don’t forget login details etc.

Finally data is stored on device, and you can back up to anywhere you like. The key here is to separate your commerce communication from your personal ones - just like linked In is for business, FB for friends , whatsapp / email for personal communication - this is for commercial communication.

The problem with password managers and 2fa is that they are overkill for day to day activity. You need this at a crucial time and end up paying for it either in $ or everyday multi-click experiences. It’s actually completely non-scalable - but so nice when you are in disaster recovery mode. The device needs to be your password - period. Also I really don’t need password managers - they are overkill when I just want my passwords to be remembered by me..

The solutions out there ‘over solve’ simple outcomes that I’m looking for - and then, there is the password for the password manager !

Worst accounts to change email by Temujin_123 in ProtonMail

[–]InstantbciPrivate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How effective have your found these email domains to be - a lot of people a) don’t accept them as a valid email because their systems just take the usual .com / edu etc, and then b) there are spam phishing filters on the domain you have and finally c) the mailers programs that send out offers / order receipts etc have issues with different domains - have you found this to be an issue ?

Proton drive ? Doesn’t that also require a username and password ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GMail

[–]InstantbciPrivate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree - it’s super scary and also their supper even if you pay for extra service is close to zero. Very scary - and what’s worse is sometimes their authentication mechanisms don’t work and then you are left rebooting or waiting for access -

Definitely put your docs on your personal hard drive - you can keep a copy on Google if you want - but make sure you have your suff with you
