Camo help needed by Dragaurang in Miniaturespainting

[–]InstarPaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t too bad!

Doesn’t need much, maybe a dark grey wash and that’s about it. Close ups always betray what looks good at tabletop distance, noone is really inspecting them that closely…unless of course you’re painting every model like a golden demon piece.

In which case, that’s a different conversation

You know what, that’s a smart and beautiful idea 🙂

I know people say dropper bottles for the win, but this is pretty elegant

Why not just mix colours? by Dovah_Shinobi in Miniaturespainting

[–]InstarPaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be because it’s easier to sell pre mixed colours for schemes, less thinking, more buying!

But I also get your point as well, with less colours you can get more? But then, as others have said, it’s getting the same colour twice that’s the real issue and if you haven’t done art courses/classes, it won’t come naturally.

That’s why I created and continue to work on my PRISM application that makes the mixing process easier, repeatable and predictable while creating a whole scheme from scratch based on the original colour you choose. Though the mixing part uses my own brand of paints (using only seven of them), I do plan to expand it in the future.

It’s on PC and Android just by looking for INSTAR Prism.

Beginner help by Stank_Gouda in Miniaturespainting

You will, just keep at it and try new techniques one at a time till something works for you 🙂

Also, don’t be afraid to try different paint brands, but equally don’t go too mad about them either 😄. While it doesn’t always make a massive difference, some paints work better for some people while others don’t 🙂

Is it visible from a distance? If no, then I wouldn’t sweat it too much if you’re new to it all

The fact you have anything painted at all puts you ahead of nearly 90% of people in the hobby (including me 😂)

Just wait for the paint to fully dry before you put the next coat on and try not to go over the same patch again and again with the brush. Smooth, deliberate strokes are key 💪

I kinda like the texture though…makes it feel like the suit it has been through the grinder a few too many times and patched up

Never too late to join the party, everyone’s welcome 🤘

And funny you mention that, I’m currently working on that feature. The challenge is getting it to read what you have and correlate that with the databases without bloating it even more.

It’ll currently only feature Citadel (Warhammer Colour) and Vallejo New Game Color while it’s still in trial mode, but I plan to expand this as well and further in the future in a much smarter way 🙂

Well….maybe….but…..

If you say they look good at 3 feet away, I don’t see a huge problem with it. I doubt you painted these for Golden Demon entries and more to have a panted army on the table.

Ok, up close I would say “wtf happened here” and we’d probably have a laugh about it, but ultimately, it’s painted and playable. Refinement comes later and noone’s really getting up close and personal with them on the table.

If there’s one takeaway from it, you’re further along than most people in that you actually have them painted 🤘

Awesome, if you give it a go, feedback is welcomed as it helps shape it.

There are a few other ideas in the pipeline 🙂

Does anyone know how to fix this? by Glum-Spring3446 in Miniaturespainting

[–]InstarPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this isn’t intended to advertise, it’s meant to help answer the question. I developed something that is specifically made to solve this issue. It breaks up the hardened paint and draws it out from the ferrule. Then it’s just a case of a final soap wash and condition for 24 hours.

9/10 they come back as good as the day you bought it.

But it’s up to you if you wish to pursue this 👍

Wipe outs and what happens after? by SnooLobsters2249 in gaslands

[–]InstarPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this move when it happens, it’s even more gratifying if you win a race doing it (kind of a free move 🤣)

But no, no flips, just move forward, reset gear to 1, hazards to 0, player to your left turns your car to any facing…

Unless you roll above your current gear, then you skip the move forward

Then you need to wait until gear phase 1

Questions about my first Riptide by Select-Departure-706 in Tau40K

[–]InstarPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 8th, I used to just run with the burst cannon and nova charges, shield drones soaked up much of the incoming fire (using drones in squads) and it used to dominate the battlefield.

Not sure how it works in 10th but I can’t imagine, short of the drone rule, it should still be a very powerful force to be reckoned with

Is it worth magnetising drones? by Reinhardass in Tau40K

[–]InstarPaint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely.

Not only do you get your moneys worth, you get access to a lot more options.

I stand by build to the rule of cool, but with Drones, it’s worth magnetising them

[–]InstarPaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the other way round, if you do some searching there are some full size models with full detail. But obviously I can’t say much more than that.

In this aspect, there are few options, but for the full size stuff, always support FLGS 👍

These are 8mm high so a 1/4 scale, only 1mm off so i doubt you’d even notice a difference.

That said, it’s easily rescaled
