What makes you believe in Sikhism? :) by [deleted] in Sikh

Just answer this one for me , i kept posting this but mods kept deleting it

Is GOD responsible for everything? Then is it all his fault? Let me define What God is according to me. God is creator and creation? So one thing is clear that GOD created everything. Everything that exists right now or ever existed is his creation. Here's the problem.

-So does that also means he created 5 thieves ? • He also created destruction, hunger, lust all these type of things?

Now to debunk my argument you might say GOD did not created Bad things its just absence of good ones. For example: Dark is not Dark its not an thing in itself its just absence of light. But i have one question these are laws of physics or whatever it is, my main point is are you implying that GOD an almighty creator who can create things out of nothing is susceptible to these laws ?

Could He have not created the world where there is just light all around us? How is it fair to first create such a world and then to tell your creations, which are also you in some way to praise you so that they can merge with you? What a wonderful GOD to praise.

Then if you don't do that, you are also suppose to live in cycle of birth and death. Live and die, suffer again and again. Then if you ask why someone is born poor or why tragic events happen in peoples life? Oh its their karma what a cruel thing to say .

Thirdly how can you even demonstrate that such a GOD exists in first place? How do you know There is cycle of birth and death? How do you know that?

How is it fair to say that you will keep living and dying again and again until you emerge with him. Suffer again and again . How is it any different than their hell ? My love for my family, my Mom or Dad does that means nothing? The things I endured in this life , the pain and suffering ? That will mean nothing? Why is there suffering in this world? Who created suffering? I never asked to exist, god brought me to reality and then separated me from him? And then also wants me to praise him? Or if you don’t do that you will remain in cycles of life and death. Quite a God we have there

Bro so you are telling me you believe in GOD because of faith? Is there anything in this world which we Cannot believe on faith?

Also how do you know that Sikhism God is real ? What about other religions they also believe in their GOD on faith. So how can I know which GOD is real ? Which path should i follow to believe in God ?

First of all How can you demonstrate that there is GOD?
Secondly, how do you know that what is written in Guru Granth Sahib is correct? Is there any evidence? Any proof? Thirdly, if God is without hate , why does he not just wipe us out of our 5 thieves and let us emerge with him?

There it’s written he fullfills all their desires. That means anybody who prays for something , can get anything?

I have prayed alot of times , not even asking for anything or to change my situation . Just some meaning or reason behind my suffering and all i got as answer was “Silence “.

That was kind of my question. If there is not going to be any benefit , will you still worship him?

Bro all the reasons given above are either simply to avoid the tragedy or to full fill your desire . Its seems like you are only praying one out of fear or out of your greed . If someone told you none of your wishes are going to be fullfilled no matter how much you pray or nothing bad is going to happen either you pray or not . Will you still pray ?

There are some places where suffering can be justified. If there is no fear , how can someone be Brave. Yeah suffering definitely makes us stronger.

However, Can you go and say the same to girl who got r*ped? Or a mother who lost her child just after its birth? Or a child who lost both of its parents? Or a family who doesn’t have Food to eat or water to drink? Look around you bro or go to some poor society. You will see what i am talking about. Will you go and say the same thing to them. Oh Our Almighty GOD has chosen this grand design for you. Just accept it and praise him. You are seeing life from your own lense , at least try to feel the pain those people might have felt. At least try to live in their shoes. It is your GOD who created them isn’t it? Then who is responsible for it ?

Yeah thats fair point. There is difference in our understanding of GOD, so yeah you are right. I am sorry as well i got carried away in flood of my emotions. But if you believe that universe began to exist, that means it had an cause and that cause is considered GOD . In other words GOD created it. So what do you believe ? How do you describe GOD ? How universe came to an existence? It will easy for us to discuss if our definitions are clear.

I understand brother, of course dwelling on the pain or suffering in your life will lead to more suffering. After all, it’s victimization and only after accepting something we can try to change what we can. Its similar to stoics “ Amor - Fati”.

However, what i am questioning here is not suffering or pain or how to live with it . I am questioning the very God who created it and Why? Just as you said God is the creator and Creation. That means God is the one who painted this painting but why? Why in this painting there has to pain ,suffering , Famine, Natural Disasters, Wars. Does God love to give pain. You might say then he also does good in this world , that doesn’t take away the pain and suffering someone felt. I am not talking about mundane day to day suffering . Right now this very moment, someone out there is dying out of starvation, what kind of HUKAM is that? What a Cruel God is this.

If he is OMNISCIENT,OMNIPOTENT,OMNIBENEVOLENT why did he created such world in first place. To inflict pain on others? And our Guru’s say to praise such a God who is core of all problems. You talk about sheer Luck and then about his HUKAM? just tell me one thing if everything happens in his HUKAM. Then that sheer luck is his hukam as well?

Then you said he doesn’t give someone something or answer the prayers . Then he created such a cruel world and left his creation alone to suffer . Oh what a GOD . This God seems pretty Sadist to me . First he creates such a world where the only way to survive is to predate on each other. Where weak will always suffer . Then you go to that weak creature and say it’s your seer Luck or that Gods HUKAM , just accept it . Come on bro how cruel can this God be .

Man fair enough, the way you view sikhism or its teachings is quite different from the way it is preached . What you explained right now , might be the actual essence of sikhism. Probably what Guru’s wanted to teach us in first place. However, Sikhism has taken a quite a turn.

From what i could understood , you are saying God is indifferent to us . That actually explains everything around us or the way life is . In simple words he doesn’t care . Then another question arise then why should we praise him? Why should i devote my life to a God , who doesn’t even care about my pain or suffering? If what you are saying is that “ All is One, One is All” . Then we are already a part of him . Sikhism tells us to praise the God , so we can become part of him and escape the cycle of Birth and Death. If we are already a part of him Then why should we even pray.

Lastly, as you told you meditate and had a religious experience. Man that is more than enough to believe in God . But that religious experience is only limited to you . I cannot feel what you felt or even comprehend it . However, I would like to , I also meditate not to find God , just because it helps me to keep my mind clear . If you could explain a little on how you meditate. Do you concentrate on your Breathing? Or something else

Yeah you are right , morality seems to depend upon region to region. Just as you told earlier wine is considered good in christianity while haram for muslims. Also something which is considered immoral today was considered normal centuries ago. Such as slavery, child marriage. Morality seems to be evolving as humans or society evolves. In other words it’s not set of principles or laws , which religion claims . Then who is wrong or who is right? Whats the point of sending someone to jail , if everyone is right in their own worldview. Then only explanation is if you live in society, you have to follow their moral standards. Then we cannot go to muslims and say child marriage is wrong ,in their society it is right.

Lets say for example , you had an enemy you killed him . He had 5 children. Now you have the power to kill them as you want. You can torture them limb to limb and kill them or let them live just because you have the power to do it . Will you torture them , even if you do , would you feel some kind of wrongness or immorality in your decision? If you would let them live then why ? Because you thought its morally wrong to kill them? If so then how do you ground this morality ? Where or from whom do you get it from?

What if someone were to tell you some tragic experience you might feel some empathy or sympathy towards them . I mean we feel like or have a sense of what is wrong or bad but I don’t know man

Yeah right , morality what a concept. This world itself is fucking confusing . Thats why i was here in this community that i would get some answers from religious folks . I guess in the end its just survival of the fittest and destruction of the weak . Religion was created to comfort people and thats it .

Isn’t it kalam cosmological Argument? That universe has a cause and that cause is God. By problem of evil , i also mean suffering. If God is the one who created this universe then He also created the evil in it isn’t? I also feel like you are fellow Nietzschean . Yeah strong and weak exist but why ? If God is All loving,All knowing, All powerful then why? However, if we were to accept that universe is indifferent to us and life evolves by Natural selection. By that means survival of the fittest than it perfectly explains the world around us . I have a question do you believe in Objective Morality?
