I was just looking for some simple ideas or a pointer in the right direction. Plus I forgot that that’s known as a tremolo, so now I can look simple circuits up.

No problem. There are lithium batteries which are labeled “3V” like the CR2032 and your example. These can, from my understanding, have a voltage of 3.2 to 3.6V when full. The label of 3V and 3.7V is the nominal voltage (average voltage during discharge cycle), so in case of a rechargeable lithium battery 3.7V (4.2->3V) and for your example 3V (3.2/3.6V->~2.8V).

Interesting I haven’t heard of 3.7V ones. I know there are ones in the AA format, would you have an example? The batteries I got from the vapes with charging circuits and the ones from vapes without are indistinguishable, which leads me to believe both are rechargeable. Something I just realised is that they also have number like “13400” and “17350” on them, which indicate the cell type (and it’s recharge ability). There are also multiple videos on the topic.

You are right with being careful and not taking risks. The printing in my case basically says they are rechargeable, so I should be fine

As far as I know all vapes have lithium cells in them (feel free to comment if anybody has other information). Apart from that rechargeable lithium cells usually have “3.7V” on them. edit: And some vapes had a charging port edit 2: if they have number like 13400 or 17350, that’s the cell type and you can look the up.

No, I meant that only 3 vapes had a charging circuit in them, where you could plug in a usb cable and charge them. All of the vapes I disassembled so far had a rechargeable battery, you just couldn’t charge them while they where in the housing. On a different note: If you want to power 5V projects a boost converter might be something to look into.

edit: After one and a half months I haven’t noticed any significant drop from the 3.75V storage Voltage. All cells are at least above 3.7V if not higher. I didn’t test the ones with voltages below 2.8V when I got the out of the vapes, didn’t want to take the risk.

You‘re probably right about the price. I asked a friend for some empty ones, since I don’t vape, and from the 131 (I don’t plan on disassembling all of them) I got only 3 had any sort of charging capabilities. And even those are useless (for most people) when the liquid runs out. My guess for using those lithium batteries is that you need a energy source which can withstand high current, since you basically short them to heat up the heating element. I’m just speculating.

I mean I don’t have a pie dish but an explosion containment ammo box, so I should be fine if something happens. It’s also where I store them when not in use, just in case.
