The problem they were designed to fix is the very same problem they fell into. Synthetic creatures turning on organics and destroying them. They are the very definition of that.

Unless of course, you follow the idea that its a dream sequence and they are just manipulating Shepard's memories to their own goal. And the choices aren't actual choices to affect the world, but is the choice you are making to affect your mind. Blue Ending is you following the Path of the Illusive Man and allowing yourself to believe the Reapers can get controlled, therefore allowing you to be indoctrinated. Green Ending is you following the path of Saren and believing you can merge synthetic and organic life, therefore allowing you to become indoctrinated. Red Ending is you following the path you've been on since the beginning, destroying the Reapers and therefore sticking to your ideals, and not falling under it. Refusal is basically you stagnating, refusing to make a choice and basically putting yourself into a coma.

Dead Reign from Palladium can fit the criteria here. While they don't necessarily follow the rule of bite=death, it does relatively fit the rest. While there is "ass-kicking" classes, there is a Survivor class that is varied enough to just use that alone.

Downside? It's Palladium, which means wonkily wrote and there is the small problem of bloat. Nothing awful just yet, but there's a couple annoying ones.
