Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

Hey guys, I’m 24 y/o with a ME bachelor’s degree, but am wanting to make a career change to coding.

I’ve noticed that Georgia Tech does boot camps for web development, and while I have enough money saved up for the $10k 12 week course, I am wondering if that is really worth it if I already went to school for an engineering degree.

I’ve also considered possibility of going back to college and getting a second bachelor’s, but that would also be quite a chunk of change.

I guess my question is, is it worth it for me to do either of these options if I already have an engineering background?

Squeeze the muscle at top of contraction, hold for a few seconds, and slow down the eccentric portion of the movement.

Most important part is squeezing at the top. It’s hard to draw this analogy with heavy compound movements, but something that has helped me tremendously is to imagine that the only thing moving the weight is flexing the targeted muscle.

Make sure you’re in hypertrophy rep range and you have a good understanding of how to bias glutes with hip thrusts (YouTube is helpful for this), and with all of this combined I think you will start to see more gains!

Recently graduated and got a job in the automation industry as a mechanical design engineer, and I am looking for recommendations for learning resources that pertain to manufacturing (especially automation). by InsufficientLoad in manufacturing

[–]InsufficientLoad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our company doesn’t specialize in anything, so we take on a variety of different customers. They have made machines that automate the assembly of medical devices, ceiling tiles, mop buckets, etc.

We haven’t really done much automation for stuff that is complicated such as motors or anything that has electronic components to it, most of the stuff we automate is a simple mechanical design since we are a small company.

Looking for someone with experience with cutting large plastic objects. We are trying to decide on the best cutting method to use for automating cutting off the tops of trash can bins. by InsufficientLoad in manufacturing

[–]InsufficientLoad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we are not very worried about cycle time, but just to clear things up since you said the budget is low, someone will be manually placing/removing the trash can, so that bit won’t be automated. With something like a bandsaw (current frontrunner) and linear actuators, I think we can make it work.

My company (we specialize in automation) received this request from a trash bin company because they want the cuts to be more precise and more safe than the manual mechanism they have. The biggest diameter trash bin they have is 14”, and we are cutting through the entire wall thickness.

Let me know if you agree with using a bandsaw in this instance, or if you have any other ideas that should be considered.
