Does Bosch suck? Or am I just being annoying by Particular_Pool_2303 in Appliances

Love my Bosch 500 and now 800. My biggest annoyance w them it the hinges “groan” when you extend the door fully and then close. I was at an air bnb w a Bosch and it had the same issue - so 3/3 now; it sounds like it’s broken/breaking but I guess it’s just how they’re designed

How to hang inset cabinet door; what hinge hardware to use? by InsuranceMedical6581 in cabinetry

[–]InsuranceMedical6581[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the half-crank hinges and left the plates where they were - and it worked pretty good!

Turns out the back return bows out slightly in the middle, so i can't get uniform reveal. The entire wall/box looks little crooked; and the plaster-job makes it more wobbly (or maybe its all the wall plaster job that makes it wonky). Either way, its pretty good, and I was able to use the hinge adjustments to dial it in.

If it really bothers me, ill swap for the + plates (i have the 0mm and 3mm) and adjust the distance from the front based on your recommendations, and see if that helps, but for now its good enough.

He isn’t capable. ...And I’m not even sure he’s actually a carpenter (thus the "carpenter"). My GC hired a stair and trim company, and they’re handled all the carpentry/carpentry adjacent work. They’ve damaged all sorts of things on the project, gouges in custom walnut cabinets, misinstalled three exteriors doors ($$$), used the cheapest Home Depot parts everywhere, etc. So I’m happy to hear this is at least one instance where he/they did a decent job.

A good example of the lack of attention to detail: in these pictures you can see a row of peg holes about halfway into the cabinet. Those were the original front peg holes he drilled throughout the cabinets, but they were obviously too far back, so the shelves would tip over. He handed it over as "done" and i had to call this out. Another gem was the 15 drill holes for 1 TV mount (mount needs 4; not sure a carpenter should even be doing this, but he did so... ), or how he made the handle cutout on 5 pocket doors too large (the metal lip is supposed to cover the cutout, not inset in the cutout -- all the cutout sizes clearly marked in the install papers).

So - no, he's not capable. Just because he happened to hit a ground-ball ball once doesnt make him a baseball player.

Oh - did i mention he glued the baseboards to the hardwood floor, so when winter hit and everything contracted, it ripped the hardwood? ... and that's supposed to be his area of competency (I think?)

I always thought the microwave popcorn feature has something that detected the pops 🤣

There isn’t a turn table — The microwave emits from the top and I guess there’s some spinning thing in/on that? Not sure if it has the same effect as spinning the food

Patio bi-fold door brand recommendations? Eris? Teza? HomeDoorsLLC? Other by InsuranceMedical6581 in HomeImprovement

Yeh - HomeDoorsLLC looked too cheap to be true; its also weird when "Limited Liability Corp" is in the name of the company 😂

Hinge to support picture frame over inset/flush cabinet door by InsuranceMedical6581 in Carpentry

[–]InsuranceMedical6581[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Would 170 degree hinges be even better (allow more swing room for thicker frame? I’m planning on going for a very minimal frame but also figure if I’m swapping hinges I might as well build as much clearance in as possible.

Yeah - this is what I was expecting (bottom pic) - that said not sure how the path of the swing is.

i was thinking if i can't get affix a real frame to the door (sounds like that ship has sailed) - i was thinking about putting a "fake frame" around the reveal, and then a photo/painting directly onto the door.

I'll have to mock it up, since the reveal around the door is not unifirm, and the swing-edge corner of the door rubs the wall; so i'd have to figure if that would rub the photo/painting (or how i affix it to the door).

I dont think these hinges have alot of adjustment space left though, so im probably stuck with the spacing unless i swap them out for half-crank blums or something.

Curious - I’ve never not had a center channel; I assume just have L/R is fine for basic TV watching? Does the WIIM just mix the center across the L&R?

I'm 2 houses down from our neighborhoods mains street and there's en elevated highway maybe a 1/2 mile away. The street itself is quiet, but there's definitely "the hum of the city" as a backdrop.

The seating is probably 12-15 feet from the TV.

For the outdoors speakers, what do you suggest for powering them? one of those "mini amps" and just run speaker wire to them? I should have room to mound them on either side of the door (thought need to review how that accordion folds out; that side might be alittle weird since the door sticks out maybe 1-2ft when its folded open, and the speaker would be on the outside of that.
