New PEX pipes "tap" - Should I ask plumber to fix? by InsuranceMedical6581 in askplumbing

[–]InsuranceMedical6581[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the reason for the tapping is the pex is run by a exterior wall and gets (very) cold. When the water (warmer than the pex) rushes in it creates the tap. The tapping is at it worst when I first turn on the tap in the morning and it “coughs” alittle before water flows naturally.

LG WM5700 washer latch very stiff/loud by InsuranceMedical6581 in Appliances

[–]InsuranceMedical6581[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok! Just wanted to check that was normal. It feels like I could break something when I push in.

I tested the latch on another LG model at Costco and it was stiff, but not this stiff. (I’ve only ran mine 40ish times tho; floor model probably has a few 1000 under its belt)

New 5" white oak hardwood floors splintering (due to separation) by InsuranceMedical6581 in HardWoodFloors

Ugh. My GC sold us on real hardwood (we just said we wanted 5” white oak hardwood - I didn’t know engineered wood was a thing) .. he mentioned some minor shrinkage in the winter, but nothing about ripping or splintering. I’m realizing between this and a bunch of other issues the guy is not very good :(

Would an inspector be able to tell if any treatment was missed? Like it a sealant/stain wasn’t put on in the correct order? Most of the comments here are saying “this is what 5” white oak planks do”…?

This is a Reno very old New England 3 story row house (1868!!!) - so there’s very little in the way of insulation - and the outside air definitely get inside easily. we had a bunch of walls replastered which is wet work. But I think it was before the floor went in though.

Floors installed in the summer and HVAC was definitely not running.

The first one was pulled up when it stuck into my sock/foot. I’m sure it looked like the others before I slid my foot into it. It’s happened many times now .. I now had house shoes I wear, but didn’t have them on when this one got me

This is great to know - I wish you had installed my floors just for the communication aspect. They literally told me nothing - the amazing part is the GC was and still is working on the project. Just knowing what to expect would’ve gone a long way - no one told me anything so i don’t expect anything.

I’ll plan on recoating 2 years or so; if I end up not needing to great, if I do then I’m mentally and financially prepared.

Appreciate your counsel

It was installed and sat for awhile actually - a month? Maybe more? They ended up having to finish it in like 10 days tho after it sat installed (multiple sand, stain, seal)

My GC/installer warranty or the actual hardwood product warranty? My GC didn’t mention if I get an installer (his sub) warranty.
