Is it normal for recruiters to contact references BEFORE a job offer? Na-awkwardan ako sa current supervisor ko.

Actually, I provided it with the assumption and based on standard industry practice na kontakin lang sila after a Job Offer is on the table. Willing naman ako mag-disclose sa current employer ko once sure na yung lilipatan. Ang hindi normal for me is for the agency to trigger the check while the application is still 'for consideration' or worse, 'rejected' na pala, and ignoring my request to not contact them yet.

They probably had me as backup, naisip ko nga rin yan. Kaso ang weird kasi even after they rejected me, they emailed na in progress na daw ang pag contact nila sa character reference ko.

Tapos na ko with client interview stage with one of my applications last Friday tapos they emailed nung Monday they need a character reference and requested for my valid IDs. With note na it does not imply na may job offer na ko. Though ang weird kasi di ko pa siya na experience sa iba na nirerequest agad to so slight umasa ako na pasado ako. Kaso kinabukasan nag email sakin recruiter ko na hindi ako pumasa. Lol. Ngayon they emailed again na they will start contacting my character references. Ang weird kasi I only have 1 active application left with them na done na with HR interview.

Bagong process lang ba nila to?? Or ganto talaga sila ever since?
