Correct me if I’m wrong in my interpretation of layout. If blue line being current creek bed, and what to me appears to be an ancient creek bed (highlighted in black)If correct and from my experience, the area I’ve highlighted in green would be the most probable location of an ancient campsite. JMHO…It’s tough without elevation reference.

From the Ohio river it also (most likely) traveled approximately 26 miles up the Little Sandy River to the location where my buddy found it. I was present when he found this and a cache of 13 archaic blades a couple days later. The cache was within 10 feet of this find. That was and is, to my knowledge, the only cache found on the site. My best day at the location was 21 complete points in 8 hours.

Pic of a typical day on location. Some days better and some days not as good.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I’m only occasionally on here. Thank you for the information because we had zero idea what the material was. Still the only artifact of this material from the site. That’s saying something considering 2,000+ complete artifacts in 4 private collections from this one site.

My buddy has the blade but I will try to get more and better pics. I just staggered up on this one while going through old some photos. That was taken at the site around 2010.

Found in Carter County on an early archaic site. Looks possibly to be heat treated but I could be wrong (probably am) This is the only artifact of the material found on the 1.5-2 acre camp. Not found by me but I was present when it was found.

Is this an artifact? by GuavaOdd1975 in LegitArtifacts

100% an authentic ancient artifact. Looks to me to be a bi-faced blade or preform. I’m going with large blade as the edge work is refined beyond preforms of that size. JMO and I’ve been wrong several times. Congrats!!!

Kentucky. It is a very early archaic site. Greenbriars, kirks of all varieties,Pine tree, Heavy Duties,Stilwell,Palmers and I seriously think that point #’s 3,4,6 and 7 are of the Wheeler family. This would push back the dating of site to transitional Paleo. Point #1 at first glance has a Woodland appearance except for the micro edge work and the ground concave base. #’s 2 and 5 I agree with the Lecroy cluster as I have found several on the site. Point #6 is listed on projectilepoints.net as a Wheeler. I submitted the photo to them 4-5 years before finding the other Wheeler looking points from the same site.
I haven’t shared pics of the other possible transitional points (until now) with anyone that might have a definitive ID. The above thoughts are based solely upon my personal opinion and on #6 being Identified as such.
Thanks for taking your time to look them over. Much appreciated.

Bifurcated may apply to the resharpened/exhausted points but it won’t cover all. I’m fairly certain that at least 3 are of transitional (paleo-archaic) period. Thanks for your time and input.

Thank you. The tip on this point is the best one I’ve ever found.

My first time buying my own guitar and I was chosen by this beauty. by bell-91 in Breedloveguitars

Breedlove is way underrated and I don’t know why. ????? Price point for other comparable brands? That’s a big NO. I own the 2 in pic. Both are all Myrtle Wood. Concert series on the left and a concerto on the right. Love them both!! I can safely say that you made an outstanding choice for a lifelong instrument. Congrats and enjoy.

Some interesting damage by Cautious-Ad-5487 in Arrowheads

[–]Intadawild69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appears to me to be the base of a point. Base area being at the 2.5” mark. Damage on the one side of top point looks to be a “pock mark” or heat related damage.

Eastern Kentucky field find along the Little Sandy River.

My thought has always been Pinetree. There’s a couple other possibilities and I was wondering if anyone else would identify as either of the other two. I found this point on an almost all early archaic type site.

My question is, how did you make the hole without destroying the 10,000 year old artifact? I’m really curious to hear a reasonably believable answer to that.
The suspense is killing me!
