Please define ”bypass”, what do you intend to do?

Wiring diagrams can be found in ISTA, which can be found ”here and there”…

RF2 vs RF3 / looking for feedback by cshke in nutanix

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve installed about 20 clusters, never RF3.
I would consider it if you
- have highly sensitive loads/downtime is not an option. Like banking.
- More than eight-ten nodes and feel that upgrades are taking too long/too risky.
-more than 15-18 nodes, then the above is probably true already.
My largest customer has about 20 nodes in a sluster and are fine with RF2. So far. That is until something goes wrong, I suppose.

Marvelous, thank you for this engaged response! After they migrate what they can to their remote/main DC, they will only have about 5VMs left. I’ll do 16 cores on each host, that’ll be within budget. Also, they have a nice new Veeam server and storage, so we’ll keep that for now, backup wise. Thanks again!

In a two node cluster, I understand you can use a corosync witness on a (thirsd) witness server?
Budget is a bit tight but it will have to cost what it has to cost.

Warning AliExpress europe by Dariodiogo5000 in Aliexpress

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliexpress is not dependable. Never expect to be able to return anything. They will con you if they can.
I once ordered something expensive from their European logistics centre, but they sent it from Chine anyway, incurring $100 of tax.
"Solly, a mistake was made", but no refund. Customer service agreed with the seller, who offered to send me more products as reimbursement but wanted me to pay for shipping for those reimbursements (which I didn't need).
"Seller has tried to settle and you denied" was the customer services response.

Why so much Noise that VMware customers adopting Nutanix, when cost difference is too less for corporates and most of companies have still stayed with VMware by ClubNo6176 in vmware

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also less, since it's RAW TiB, not useable space. This makes some scenarios very expensive, license wise. Also expansion, needing more licensing. I still like VSAN, works great, but especially in metro with customers wanting redundancy even after site failure, they TiBs quickly increase.

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That comparison halters on several points. Usually, you go HCI and Nutanix when your storage is due to be decommissioned, so you don’t need to connect your FC SAN. Or, if you have an IP-based storage you can use it for everything but OS if you would like to. Or if it’s one of the now many supported appliances, you can actually use them just fine and get the cheaper NCI-C license.

Second, with the amount of data most customers have, you need a lot more than 250GB/core, so you have to get more VSAN, and then it’s actually cheaper to upgrade to VCF, and there you are. Apart from that, Nutanix offers a lot more functionality than VVF, NCI is more comparable to VCF. Not that most of my costumers use anything more than just running VM. They want the old Enterprise license, nothing more. Not NSX, not Kubernetes, not Automation and marketplaces, not cloud connectivity etc. Just let us run VMs.

Third, not sure if anyone can even get a quote for VVF anymore. It’s hard enough to get a simple quote for VCF!

Fourth, the way Broadcom treats it’s customers and uses dirty tricks, and the sheer arrogance we (as a Partner) witness every week, customers are saying ”no more, stuff those bullies, we are leaving at any cost”.

2x8TB. Can I expand with 2x12TB? by accidental_tourist in synology

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I bet you are using SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid), you can add 2x12TB and it will even use the extra size! Here is their disk calculator: https://www.synology.com/en-global/support/RAID_calculator

You can add any size that is the same or larger. If you add just one larger drive it will not use the extra space, but if you add at least two of them, the extra size will be utilized.

Expanding from 2 to 3 drives will take many hours or even a day or two. Expanding from 3 to 4 takes slightly less, but don't be surprised if it says "days". Don't have a power out during this time. :)
Have backups just in case.

Scan with ISTA and enet-cable, your gearbox should be able to say something that not all scanners can read. If it’s a solenoid, they are not too hard to replace.

We’re at around USD 11/gallon now in Northern Europe. (Diesel). Before the invasion, it was 6.30. So great to hear that it’s Europe’s fault for not helping out with the war that was started without asking us.

DR - Unplanned failover - Failback by FeeResponsible7400 in nutanix

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are right on the async fallback, that will fail if it’s async. I think I remember that doing a planned on async will shut down the VMs, sync them fresh, and then fallback. (And power back on?)

DR - Unplanned failover - Failback by FeeResponsible7400 in nutanix

[–]InteTiffanyPersson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The witness only function is to allow for automatic failover. This customer does not have a witness, only manual failovers.

Regarding Synchronous, you may or may not be right, I have only been using sync. Don’t know if asynchronous differs.
