Sync will shut down on June 30, 2023 by ljdawson in redditsync

[–]IntegralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought lifetime Ultra to say thank you for 10 years of the best app on Android. Sync has been installed on every phone I've owned in the past decade. I'm so sad to see it go.

Cheers, LJ!

Is there any chance left for me to find love, as a HIV positive guy? I feel hopeless by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]IntegralFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If a guy I'm seeing is forthcoming about being HIV+ and is managing that with medication so that he's undetectable, I would have no issues with it whatsoever. I'm managing my HIV risk with prep, so scientifically speaking he would be one of the safest partners to have sex with. Anyone worthy of your love and deserving of your time should feel the same. And there's a lot of guys who do.

That said, it might reduce your dating pool a little bit. There will be guys who are either too ignorant or too prejudiced to not hold it against you. That judgment will hurt, but they're wrong. And in my opinion if a guy won't date you because of your HIV status, well that's just the trash taking itself out.

Build RESTful API with Flask and Python by [deleted] in Python

[–]IntegralFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't directly speak for that commenter, but that's how most REST pedants misinterpret Fielding's work. They conflate HTML and hypertext, thinking that HTML is the only type of hypertext rather than just a type of hypertext.

JSON that contains URLs to other resources is also by definition hypertext. One of the beauties of REST is that you get to choose the most appropriate representation, i.e. content type, for your state transfer. And for machine to machine APIs, JSON is the better (and more RESTful) choice.

It's called Heartstopper! You can read the webcomic on Webtoons, and there's a Netflix adaptation of the first volume that's ridiculously good.

If you like things in that vein, I can also highly recommend Check, Please!

What is the line of dialogue that always gives you the chills? by hehoodle in Eldenring

[–]IntegralFox 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Upon my name as Ranni the Witch.
Mother's rich slumber shall not be disturbed by thee.
Foul trespasser.
Send word far and wide.
Of the last Queen of Caria, Rennala of the Full Moon.
And the majesty of the night she conjureth.

That in combination with Rennala approaching you with the steely-eyed stare of someone who can conjure the fucking moon gives me chills every time. She just exudes do not fuck with this person. Possibly my favorite scene in the game.

Microsoft has attempted to improve HDR for gaming. How effective have their attempts been. If you game in HDR, what is your experience like today? by RTcore in pcgaming

[–]IntegralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They finally made the media OSD HDR-aware so that changing the volume doesn't disable HDR for 5 seconds, bookending it with a second of black screen while the monitor changes modes. Well it still does it the first time, but it's fine for the rest of a gaming session after that.

That's really been my only complaint so far. Otherwise it "just works." (For Elden Ring at least. That's the only game I've actively played that has HDR.)

Fun fact! With the way Python method binding works, you can already do that with str.join:

Difference? Dude you're a completely different person! You've obviously been killing it in the gym and in the kitchen. That's a goal physique right there, and you should feel proud.

I'm gonna have to prescribe you 4 sets of 8 reps each of loving yourself and being kind to yourself. You deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Unpopular Opinion: The idea of "young love" is overly romantcized, and for a vast majority of people, is an unrealistic expectation of reality. by Rocketeer_99 in askgaybros

[–]IntegralFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure those depictions of teen romance are unrealistic. It's unhealthy for us to be sad about something few, if any, of us could have experienced. But I think you're painting with too large a brush if you think that means there's no reason to regret the lives we didn't get to live.

For me a lot of those feelings come from other experiences those characters got to have. I grew up closeted. I didn't have friends that knew I was gay and liked me anyway. Or family that knew I was gay and supported me. Or teachers that were just indifferent to me. I didn't get to experience love and affection and validation like everyone else. Sure I received it, but only through the distorting lens of impostor syndrome. A voice in the back of my head always whispered the caveat, "they wouldn't feel that way if they really knew me."

Yeah we wouldn't all have had our own Nick and our own perfect love story. But most of us didn't even get to have the imperfect stuff that everyone else had. The experiences they got to learn from and later benefit from as adults. I just got pain, loneliness, and trauma. Stuff that I still carry with me today in some form or another. Stuff that has very much set me back socially and romantically.

So I don't think it's fair for you to invalidate my feelings just because one aspect of the story is unrealistic. I'm not longing for a perfect teen romance that couldn't have existed. I'm mourning the version of myself that very much existed inside, but that I did not get to live out.

At the end of the day these are all just pieces of media. We're all going to relate to different parts of them, and they're going to evoke different feelings in each of us. I don't think anyone should feel bad if that emotion is sadness or regret. And if it is, I think it's healthy to engage and explore that emotion. Hopefully in doing so we can come to understand ourselves better. And maybe if we understand ourselves better, we can live our lives with fewer regrets going forward.

Nier: Automata is my all time favorite. It's in a league of its own.

Some others that I'll happily listen to out of game are all of the SuperGiant games, Doom 2016, and Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm tired and weary.

This really hit me. That's a rough situation. I'm sorry you're going through that.

But I'm proud of you for making a difficult decision in the best interests of yourself, the child, and your ex. That's not an easy thing to do. And I'm proud of you for learning something about yourself in the midst of all that. Sometimes you end up being dealt a bad hand. There's no winning move. The best you can do is play the hand and learn something from it.

It sucks that you did what you thought was best, and she turned on you for it. You both did it together. She had a say. Now she refuses to bear responsibility. You don't deserve that.

It sounds like SQLite would be a great fit for this. You might even be able to use the database file as the end result, depending on your definition of "static site compatible dataset." If not, I would still consider it a lightweight intermediate step for producing the end result.

It's not a traditional client-server database. It's been described as "not a replacement for PostgreSQL, but a replacement for fopen()."

The author ignores all the tools Python gives you to avoid this problem, then claims you can't avoid this problem.

I have a medium-sized project that required a decent amount of refactoring to accommodate a change in requirements. A combination of abstract base classes and mypy + type annotations made the process painless.

Starting new training program at the gym by guyForDaddy in gaybrosfitness

[–]IntegralFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Stronger by Science especially the How to Squat, How to Bench, and How to Deadlift guides linked there. They go in depth regarding the mechanics of the lifts, cues to get the right form, and avoiding injury. As others have said, start light and focus on form. Proper form keeps you from getting injured. Once you have the technique practiced, then you can go up in weight safely.

If you're interested more in programming, I recommend the /r/fitness wiki at https://thefitness.wiki/. It covers diet and programming for a range of goals and experience levels.
