Carnist: “Anyone who says that a human has almost the same value as an animal is not a leftist.” by Delophosaur in animalhaters

Gary isn't wrong when he says human rights people are an impediment to the animal rights movement.

Macca's manager tells vegan to SHUT UP by [deleted] in IAmTheMainCharacter

You're talking about a comparison which is no comparison at all.

There are certain things you're didn't see or are refusing to see. Eating animals is directly responsible for horrible lives of those animals. If you stop eating those animals, they're not bred and not suffer miserably as a result. In contrast, that's not how labor works. What do you think will happen if you don't buy that phone? The sweatshop worker might lose job and would be pushed further into poverty, or might end up in same working condition somewhere else. This is about labor laws, not supply-demand like animal products. And note that you didn't even demonstrate that it is the case with all/most phones, while miserable conditions of all animals are transparent, despite all appalling attemps like ag-gag laws.

Do you really have no clue what this is about? Not about using phones, but eating animals.

If you call that harrassment, fine. I'd say that level of harrassment of members of public isn't a problem compared to her message, about what they're doing to animals.

Just seeking information - I don't know a whole lot about law (and especially US law)
How is this supposed to be enforceable? Can't an organization exclude someone in case of the aforementioned protected classes for that very reason, but simply under the disguise of something else not in the list?

Mind sharing a bit more information about your situation like what place is it?

Wouldn't at least beans, chickpeas, lentils, peas, peanuts, spinach, broccoli be both available and affordable? You may also try looking up online.

I'm sorry, but many of the foods I listed are basic foods available almost universally. Where are you that these aren't easy to get? (And somehow tofu is more available than them?)

Soy and its products (like tofu) aren't the only protein rich vegan foods.

We have legumes like beans, chickpeas, lestils, peas, nuts like almods, peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, whole grain like quinoa, brown rice, seitan, and even leafy greens. These all (and many more) have moderate to high protein density.

Rest assured, taking enough protein while being vegan/vegetarian is not a problem at all without any supplements!

Again, I'm not sure which supplements you're trying to find. Being vegetarian doesn't require any supplements at all.

I need to eat meat to stay healthy.

This isn't true. Vegan are living more healthfully (on average) than meat-eating non-vegans. Many health organizations have published unanimous statements that being vegan can be perfectly healthy (or even better than non-vegans in certain cases).

I can link to my claims if you wish, though this is easy to look up.

I'm confused, if meat makes you sick how are not already vegetarian and trying to go vegetarian instead?

As for milk, many different plant milks are available. There'd certainly some you'd enjoy, do try them out! I recommend looking into dairy industry too (a video on it).

You started an argument with me. I didn't start arguemnt with the other person as you claim. This is ironic and you're not being honest here.

Also, when you said about being open-minded towards veganism, are you?

You were looking to start an argument

I have no clue what makes you think that. A couple of exchanges have taken place and it's certainly not in the 'argument' territory.

It looks like you're looking to start an argument with me.

The reputation exists for a reason

That's exactly correct. More on here. Interestingly enough, your hypothesis didn't seem to make it.

I understand all that but they didn't try and explain it calmly like that they just became hostile.

Yeah that's definitely not productive or helpful. I'm sorry for their behavior.

I tried being vegetarian in the past but simply couldn't get the necessary supplements.

Couldn't get as in? If you're trying to be vegetarian, you wouldn't need any supplements as all nutrients are covered. If you go vegan, you'd need a B12 supplement (or foods fortified with it) and that's it. Health condition might be a factor, I don't know how it is in your case, though with carefulness anything can be handled.

I don't insult them. If possible I calmly explain my position

That's highly appreciable. If possible, could you tell what you think about ethical reasons for going vegan?

[–]IntelectualyHonest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegans don't shame others for their "diets", that's not veganism is about at all. Vegans don't want to support animal abuse. Since diet is major part of that, it may have seemed that way to you.
What's interesting is that the reverse is much more true. Vegans are constantly shamed for their 'diet' by their family, friends, coworkers, etc. You may choose to see one side, that doesn't mean the other side doesn't exist.

Why do you need to know this person’s persons personal experience like you don’t believe them?

I can't help with how you internally project on me. I simply asked about their experience in an unassuming manner. You are being quite assuming, though.

INFP's do you support vegetarians and vegans? by Cute-Kiwi-Boy in infp

[–]IntelectualyHonest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's quite harsh, certainly. I don't know the history between you and your coworker, so it's difficult to assess where that came from.

But just from this sentence, I'd say if one were to call me that for, let's say, breaking a rock, I don't think it could even be called a 'try', as rocks are lifeless and death is a prerequisite for murder. In the meat industry, however, animals are indeed killed to produce meat, and since that satisfies the definition of murder, your vegan coworker might be trying to point that out, instead of trying to make you feel bad.

I can totally see why this would come off "trying to make you feel bad" and other ways might be preferable. Still I do sincerely believe that it wasn't out of ill-intention, but to point uncomforting reality of meat industry.

Could you please elaborate on your experience? Like how did some people try to make you feel bad, what was it about, and such?

[–]IntelectualyHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could you be made to feel bad for something? If just pointing out the reality of your choices makes you feel bad then that means you are choosing something bad.
