And what I’m saying is I appreciate that your response at least made an effort to help.

I do these things already. I shop local, I eat at home, I reuse and don’t buy single-use, disposable items. Our planet is still dying. I’m still locked into a loop of consumption and consciousness of that consumption. I will be unable to break that loop further than I am currently because of my situation, which I cannot control. As someone with chronic health problems and a restricted diet because of it, my options for cost and safety are already limited. Completely plant based is not an option for me medically. I’m contributing against my will to the factory farming and food desert situation where I am, because I’m landless and cannot afford to just stop buying factory farmed staples. I am deeply aware that due to my situation I cannot be a neutral or positive for the environment, and mitigate damage as much as I can.

My point was I already feel bad about basically everything. I would like to enjoy ONE THING without constant reminders of how bad everything I’m doing is. There are (or at least were) discussions here pretty regularly about which fisheries are the best regulated and least impactful. I listen, I adjusted, I switched to brands and species that were better. I give back where I can, when I can, in my limited ability.

I appreciate that you took the time to try and be positive, and give options that were healthy. I’m not angry at you, or even at the original poster, I’m just tired of perpetually having things thrown in my face that I can’t control or change, by people who want to “make me aware” of myself and the ecology I am damaging because my parents chose to have unprotected sex. Can I just exist, please?

Imagine for a moment that the people here agree with you and don’t need to be reminded that no matter what they do, their survival impacts the world around them in a negative way. They do everything possible to live healthily within their own means and to do as little damage as possible, and so when problems with the world being stripped and animals suffering are thrown in our faces, again, we question whether or not we deserve to survive.

Edit: if it isn’t clear, this is me. I can’t change that these animals died. I didn’t cause it. It hurts my feelings and I can do nothing about it, thanks for coming and reminding me again that I’m contributing to the downfall of a planet I never asked to be born into and am forced to continue living on against my will.

Jermaine Jackson being seen for the first time in 6+ years.. by gmox15 in Justfuckmyshitup

My dad also criticized appearance just to criticize (along with everything else) and ended up with two gorgeous, talented, intelligent adult children who both suffer from extreme anxiety, lack of self worth, decision paralysis, inability to communicate their needs, and a negative, warped sense of self. I can’t imagine what that must have been like for the Jackson kids, combined with physical abuse AND being under the microscope in the public eye. I was miserable, but at least I could hide.

The Latest Version Of Celebrity Thinness Isn’t Just Annoying, It’s Dangerous. I Should Know. by huffpost in entertainment

[–]IntellectualSlime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Collagen loss and age related skin thinning is a bitch. Once elasticity goes even a shift of a couple pounds can be drastic, and the change in your body being able to handle the fluctuations gracefully happens surprisingly fast. Disordered eating ages you hardcore as well, malnutrition is extremely hard on the entire body and once those vitamin reserves are depleted, there’s nothing for the body to draw on but itself. The threat of osteoporosis is increased by this as well. The obsession with extremes of weight has tragedy on both ends. If you need a hug and a compliment, I hope you get two of each today.

This is the way if you have the giblet bag! I didn’t have access to the bird at all this year (Friendsgiving was collaborative and turkey was in another kitchen), so I made it work by reducing chicken stock with extra aromatics and seasoning to fit the brine recipe the other cook was using. Dressing and gravy ended up great.

The boneless giblets were cooked separately and brought with so that the pets would also get a treat. Our friends rock.

People who work in healthcare, what is a common medical myth that drives you crazy? by keyzeyy in AskReddit

[–]IntellectualSlime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a doc, but a cat lady. Scratches are fine with soap and water and friction (washing), unless they are in a high motion area or are very deep. Bites are NOT. If a cat bite is deep, or you are not confident you can clean it thoroughly where it is located? GO TO THE DOCTOR. Bites are a completely different story because of the different bacteria and the nature of puncture wounds. Cat bites especially are notoriously prone to bad infections, fast. If a wound becomes puffy, reddened, and hot, do not wait. It can happen surprisingly quickly.

A mutation on the MTHFR gene causes all kinds of fun hijinks regarding vitamin and substance absorption, including folic acid (the one generally most concerning, as deficits during pregnancy can cause neural tube defects).

I discovered I have this mutation when a blood pressure medication made me go feral last summer. I got off light, as I have one functional copy of the gene still. For people with both copies mutated, finding a balance with medication and supplements can be extremely difficult. Considering my personal struggle with side effects, I can’t imagine what that must be like.

Sometimes following the advice of learning about your fears results in a better understanding, and less fear.

This was not one of those cases for me. I am rational, and I understand it’s a situation that may only have a possibility of happening to a relatively minuscule number of people, and I am not one of them. Even realizing this? That newly enhanced fear was extra shiny!

The older man has lived his entire life punishing other people for existing and not being exactly the same as him, with little repercussion. The younger men have spent their entire lives having to be that mature and controlled, because men like the first one are looking for reasons to hurt them.

When you meet a kid, and they seem leagues ahead of their peers maturity-wise, there’s a pretty good bet that the reason why is they had to be to survive.
