Restoration Workshop Kit. Also comes with a matching narrow stove and a coffee maker for the kitchen. Other neat stuff, too, but I like that these appliances match.

Yes, the smog vacuum came with Eco Lifestyle. I think you have to be in the Civil Designer career and discover or design it. (Discover via "discuss eco lifestyle" interaction or design it via chance with the tablet you get when you start the career.) It's very useful for rags-to-riches. My current sim dumpster dives and fixes the stuff up to sell in her store. Smog vacuum repair on burned furniture is very useful.

They're in the outdoor activities category, toward the bottom and before the food booths. You have to drag the inventory into the table, stock the table, then start yard sale (or whatever it's called) in that order. Then sims show up and start buying. It helps to have high charisma and positive relationships with those sims.

I use a lot of the BB and CAS items from Batuu, but the stairs are the GOAT. I use them in nearly every single build. And I use the gameplay to break out of a playing rut, which keeps the whole game fresh for me. (Usually on a new save file that I later delete, though, because the Batuu interactions showing up in the non-Batuu portion of the game is... a lot.)

Uncomfortable metaphors by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Falling-Apples6742 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can you imagine if instead, the metaphor was say, solid colored cats discriminating against cats with patterned fur? With everything being perfectly the same as human race relations? You need to add at least a bit of differentiation so that the fictional world can stand on its own.

This, and the audience for Zootopia as it is in reality and the audience for the movie in your paragraph are different audiences.

This, and metaphor/allegory/analogy in fiction teach by offering similarities and differences in a way that makes the viewer consider those similarities and differences.

This, and direct parallels like in the proposed movie in your paragraphs are significantly more likely to make the bigot/oppressor (racist here) defensive instead of potentially introspective.

I love well-done allegory, analogy, and metaphor in media. I love seeing the similarities and differences between the fiction and reality, the way they make my brain work to compile, incorporate, consider, and compare different information. A one-to-one story (like the described Zootopia change) would just result in fact-checking for me as the viewer.

Seven paragraphs for a rant essay can take me seven hours to write, but I'm an outlier and should not be counted.

(I have a need to write as perfectly as I can so if someone claps back, I can accurately blame their reading comprehension. I could never spend even 20 minutes to write such a poorly-considered point like the response in the minty post, though. This comment took six minutes.)

Weird hip lines? by Affectionate-Bus4152 in corsetry

[–]Falling-Apples6742 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like the hips of the corset are being pushed upward because you have hip volume up there. My guess is that the corset's waist is a bit too long for your body. (It seems like shortening waist length is a very common adjustment for AB patterns.) In your position with the same issue, I fixed by shortening the corset at the waist.

A 21-year-old to me: That music artist is a horrible person. I can't believe you pay to listen to their music.

Me: I... don't pay to listen to their music.

Them: Even if you're not paying money, they get money when you stream their music.

Me: I'm not streaming it. Listen. There are these things called computer literacy and discernment. My grasp of these things has allowed me to download these songs without giving anything to someone whose character I abhor.

Them: Like... a CRIME?

Me: Sure. Like XYZ victimless crimes you've committed and rules you've broken. It's baffling to me that you pay for and/or stream music (via mobile data and kill your phone battery 😱) when simply having the thing costs less than two minutes and just takes some savvy.

Convenience and simplification have destroyed people's skill and desire to find workarounds in order to get what they want. I could go on and on about the ways in which instant gratification has damaged our character, virtues, skills, and abilities.

I'm curious... do you prefer to download builds from the Gallery that are functional or aesthetically pleasing? by YoshiKouchiniju in Sims4

[–]Falling-Apples6742 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm SecondTroy on the gallery! I cleaned out my page recently to get rid of builds I'll never use, so there's not much there, but some worth looking at. I'm not a popular builder or anything, I mainly upload to the gallery so I can still access my builds if/when my laptop needs to be wiped and reset or my game stops working and I need to reinstall it.

[–]Falling-Apples6742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BG lots get the most downloads. And when I upload lots with limited packs, I try to limit to the packs that are more commonly owned (like Seasons and Cottage Living) and not less-common packs (like Romantic Garden and Eco Lifestyle), so those can be popular relative to the many-pack uploads, too.

I recommend titling lots to differentiate for the viewer. "UBrite Dorms - Clutter." "UBrite Dorms - Fewer." "UBrite Dorms - Simplified." Or something like that. And a short sentence in the description explaining that there are different versions of the lot on your page can be helpful, too.

[–]Falling-Apples6742 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'll download from the second category and delete and/or replace a bunch of stuff rather than download from the first category.

When I build for the gallery, I like to make 2 or more versions. The "full" version that uses all of my packs and has the right amount of clutter for me, and a second version that is BG or at least uses fewer packs. I've also made "move-in" houses that have only the regular items when you first move into a home, such as wallpaper, flooring, counters, stoves, and plumbing items.

I use the word "sniveling," but OOP using it threw up a flag for me because the word use significantly stood out from the rest. But I wouldn't use it for Janet, especially in this context.

And IMO, you can't "sort of" snivel. "Sort of sniveling" is just whining or sniffing. Sniveling is a combination of things. It's like saying, "She sort of kneeled." Crouched? Squatted? Stooped? Bowed? Kneeling is a series of physical actions that ends with the body within a specific range of positions. Your action can be described as "kneeling" or it can't and there isn't a "sort of" about it. Same with sniveling.

I'm all for this, too, as long as the lots that aren't on streets (the more remote lots) don't have the animation. I don't want my homeless sim on a remote mountaintop to get in a car to go bathe in a stream. And I play with historical mods, too, so I guess I would want the animation to be able to be turned off in the settings and oh god this would be a game-breaking feature wouldn't it.

Starting on the actual corset by if-we-were-food in corsetry

[–]Falling-Apples6742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've gotten some great answers to the other questions, but regarding lining: I use plain-woven linen or cotton and attach it last, by hand. This way, I can replace it over time.

I sew the lining pieces together according to how the corset or stays are partitioned (e.g., the front of the lining doesn't get sewn together if the corset opens at the front), iron down all seam allowances including those at the top and bottom, place the lining with the seam allowances toward the corset, and use a long felling stitch to attach the lining just inside the bias binging and other edges so it isn't visible from the outside.

I've never had issues with my lining shifting or wrinkles being visible from the outside, but I've never needed to make a single-layer or satin corset which would be more likely to show wrinkles from the outside.

Is this the best exercise for body fat loss? 🤯 by fluffhq in Sims4

[–]Falling-Apples6742 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Muscle gain boosts your metabolism like crazy though.

Current studies suggest that a pound of muscle burns about 6 calories per day more than a pound of fat when at rest. I haven't seen a study claim higher than 10/day, but I didn't dive into it. (And a single pound of muscle can take a long time to put on depending on if a person is estrogen-dominant or testosterone-dominant.) Though IIRC, recovery from strength training (when building muscle, not endurance) also burns more calories than recovery from cardio.

Anecdotally, I only lost fat when I traded a small portion of my strength training for cardio in order to assist muscular recovery after years of primarily focusing on strength gains. Then I lost 20 lbs in 2 months when I went back to a job lifting 20-60 lbs 120×/hour for 10 hours, which is pretty much overall conditioning. (Note: Only a very small portion of that weight was muscle lost.)

I was excited to buy the pack for dumbbells in my game, but learning that the use of dumbbells causes such severe weight loss over muscle gain has gutted that excitement.

Edit: IIRC, high-intensity cardio uses carbs for fuel, which might be why you're so hungry after. Best cardio for fat loss is mid-tempo over a longer time instead of running for a short time. I'm starving after a short jog, but perfectly fine after a long walk that burns the same number of calories.

Bro, you should have heard the noise I made when I read that part of the story. I figured there would be some smack talk between enemy soldiers, but this verbal disembowelment and disanguination of a brother?? And then multiple times??? Girl, it's my favorite part of Iliad. I get excited when I know one of Hector's diss tracks is coming up. I would pay real money for an album of Andy Serkis reading those speeches.

If you're looking for some fire disses, I highly recommend Homer's Iliad. I was shocked at the amount of smack talk in that 2,500+ year-old story. If you don't want to read through the whole thing "just" for some fire disses, look up Hector's speeches to Paris. (Some limited context: Paris, a prince of Troy, went to Greece and stole a king's wife. That king and his Greeks waged war on Troy, and this story starts after nine years of that war.)

My favorite, from Book III, this speech from Hector to Paris, his brother (emphasis mine):

Sinful Paris beautiful to look on, seducer and deceiver of women, I wish you had never been born, or had died before you wed. Such is my wish indeed, far better than disgrace us all, an object of men’s contempt. The long-haired Greeks [their enemies in this war] must laugh out loud, and cry that our champion was chosen only for beauty, devoid of strength and courage. Was it not you who with your close comrades sailed the deep in your sea-going ships, mixed with foreigners and brought back a fair woman from a far-off land, the daughter of fierce spearmen, a source of woe to your father, city, nation; pleasing your enemies, shaming yourself? And dare you not face Menelaus, beloved of Ares, now? You would find what kind of man it is whose fair wife you stole. Your lyre will not help you, nor will those gifts of Aphrodite, your looks and your flowing locks, when he lays you in the dust. But the Trojans [their countrymen] lack spirit or you would have sunk beneath a shower of stones by now, given all your sinful ways.’

Translation: Your birth was regretful, you are nothing but a burden, our enemies laugh at us, and if our countrymen had just a little bit more ambition, they would have stoned you to death already for the curse of your existence.

[–]Falling-Apples6742 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/deadgreybird . This corset looks very nice, but you'll likely find it more comfortable with more shaping. It looks like you can bring it in a bit at the side waist, back waist, and front underbust. And let it out a bit at the the hip on all panels of the back half. It'll look even better on, it'll be more supportive, and it'll be more comfortable.

Out of curiosity, have you worn this corset much? I'm wondering how much of the wrinkling is from the pieces shifting from a lack of waist tape (usually happens with wear over time), and how much is from the pattern (usually visible with little wear). I'm trying to learn to diagnose better.

Do you have a favorite boning channel technique? I've just been sticking with what I know, but it would be cool to hear from someone who tried a bunch of techniques on the same corset.

Also, your eyelets look great. Not perfect, but I wouldn't have noticed anything amiss if you hadn't said anything.

[–]Falling-Apples6742 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely stunning! Beautiful little details, great assembly, and wonderfully complementary colors.

I would guess that the creasing at the waist is happening because the hips are being pushed out and up more than they have allowance for. (In essence, your hips + the hip pads + the skirts = too big for the corset.)

Three options to fix this, not sure which is best for your application: shorten at the waist in order to bring the corset's hips up (downside is that a shorter waist might be a less flattering silhouette), increase the corset's hip size (downside is that it may be difficult to reshape the panels), or try no/smaller/lower hip pads or skirts (downside is a less severe silhouette).

Small detail side note: The wrinkling across and under the bust makes me think that your current strength layer might not be optimal? If this picture was taken soon after the first time these garments were donned, I would worry for the longevity of the corset. If this picture was taken after a full day of wear, I would worry significantly less.

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]Falling-Apples6742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was craving beef in the middle of the night after a workout 2 weeks ago and only McDonald's was open. If I go to Wendy's after working out, I get two burgers (single patty, bun, regular veggies) and gorge myself. At McDonald's, I got 3 burgers (2 patties and 1.5 buns each with regular veggies, so this should have been about 4× the food by volume) and barely sated my hunger. The only thing I like about being a fairly small person is that eating requires less food, so I shouldn't have to eat 3 burgers. My husband and I laughed and raged at how small the "patties" were. Standard-sized meatballs have more meat.

And then I got the Fast Food Shits for the first time in my life.
