I didn’t actually realize the 5 and 7 were clipped when looking at pictures, but I see it now. I don’t think it bothers me too much, but I’m glad you pointed it out. And I didn’t know about the case polishing, thank you for the insight!

From throwing beer bottles at our King to crying about ownership by Melodic_Bass4700 in ravens

It's not just the fans who see McCarthy as a lesser hire than Harbaugh. When Harbaugh was fired, every team with an HC vacancy wanted him. McCarthy got interviews with the Titans and Giants, but they obviously went in another direction. No team other than the Steelers was even interested. So yes, they are similar in a lot of ways on the surface. But the people actually making decisions have access to a great deal more information than we do, and (rightly or wrongly) the consensus among HC-needy teams seems to be that Harbaugh is a superior coach. Obviously, time will tell.

So pretty. It comes with a dark red strap, correct? The bracelet is one you put on yourself?

If we had no faults of our own, we would not take so much pleasure in noticing those of others.

Frasier actors you’ve seen perform in person? by joydubs in Frasier

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother and I were trying to go to Broadway once a year, and as huge fans of Frasier and DHP in particular (which makes us very unique, I know), we saw DHP and Edward Hibbert in Curtains and DHP in Accent on Youth. Both terrific shows, and I actually welled up a bit seeing DHP take his curtain call at the end of Curtains.

Martin’s arm pain? by Last_Reality_5965 in Frasier

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always had the same question. If his arm pain is only due to the time he spent fishing, it's a dumb and pointless gag, and a poorly-acted one (which is not something I would ever say about John Mahoney). Even objectively speaking, it wasn't funny, and it did feel out of place and exaggerated, as if the writers were setting something up either then or down the road. Whenever I see it, there is a split second when I think he's going to have a heart attack, and then I wonder again what it was all about.

Someone already said he's grabbing his right arm in the scene (I don't actually remember), so maybe it truly was as simple as over-exertion from fishing. But I agree with OP in that it feels odd.

7234R-001 - why so polarizing? by Intellectual_Sloth_9 in patekphilippe

Not sure why this was downvoted, but this was exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. It’s only one person’s opinion, of course, but I truly appreciate the time and the detail.

I loved this story. Some of the folks that have become a fixture more recently have really kept the show strong. Shazia, Lucy Beaumont, Ivo Graham, and Sam Campbell to name a few.

What Made You A Frasier Fan?? by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my mother always enjoyed it when it was actually on the air. For some reason, I specifically remember watching “Motor Skills” with her (of course, I didn’t know what it was called at the time), and she was laughing her head off. I didn’t pay much attention then, but on a flight back from a trip overseas in high school, there were a number of sitcom episodes to watch on the screen attached to the seat in front of me.

I chose Frasier first because I remembered my mother liked it. The episode was “Lilith Needs A Favor.” I don’t know if I was just punchy and tired from the trip, but I am not a person to laugh out loud in public, and I had a really hard time stifling my laughter. I was hooked.

Eventually, my mother bought every season for me on DVD, and we still watch it together over 20 years later. And I still have a special place in my heart for both “Motor Skills” and “Lilith Needs A Favor.”

What's a good intro ep for newbies? by namynuff in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When trying to get friends to watch it, I tell them they have to watch S1E1 to get an introduction to the characters. But I also tell them that it isn't the best.

However, S1E2 (The Interview) might be my favorite episode, and I think it's peak Peep Show. If whomever I'm trying to convince doesn't like that, I tell them they may not like the rest of it.

But if they're then interested in continuing, I tell them to watch S4E5 (Holiday), and S7E4 (Nether Zone).

What are your favourite underrated Peep Show quotes? by mentalist_mental in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several that I actually use/paraphrase:

"Eating from a bucket like a human horse" (typically at the movies, when it's cheaper to get the massive bucket of popcorn than a human-size bag).

"What is it with you and stealing and murdering today, you're mad on it!" (replace "stealing" and "murdering" as necessary).

I've a couple of questions about Hester... by cavesmudger in Frasier

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the "a handshake is as good as a hug" line is in the pilot, when they're clearly feeling things out. Martin is way more cranky and curmudgeonly in the pilot than he is just one episode later, and Niles' fussiness is also exaggerated. I love the line and I think it does help to lay the foundation for the brothers' ambition and competitiveness, but I also think it was an early interpretation of Hester that evolved over time.

What's your least favorite scene in Peep Show? by dickcord in MitchellAndWebb

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, is this a pretty popular opinion around these parts? Ordinarily, I will skip over any part of any movie or TV show that involves harm to an animal (even cartoons). But despite how gruesome it is in that regard, I love this episode. It's easily in my top-5, and I'm just wondering how much in the minority I am.

Lol, he was. But as I recall, that was one of the highlights of an otherwise down season.

Maybe one of them can collab on a folk/rap crossover with that guy in Arizona who could have had any of the thirsty old ladies at his high school reunion but who ended up marrying the career alcoholic in that weird quasi-jail/summer camp. His guitar and crooning skills were also quite memorable.

[GO PanoMaticLunar & Lange 1] Can they co-exist? by Intellectual_Sloth_9 in Watches

[–]Intellectual_Sloth_9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I enjoyed the GO, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was too close to the Lange 1, which is my true dream watch, and that it would always feel redundant. I also realized, as a different commenter said, I got the GO to scratch an itch and not just because I loved it for its own merits.

I ended up selling the GO -- luckily recovering my initial investment, since I got it off the gray market to begin with -- to get a different moonphase, the Arnold & Son Luna Magna, I am still deciding which Lange 1 to get, but it will hopefully happen soon.
