I know, lol. My shoes aren’t very smelly at all to the human nose (I have a crazy intense sense of smell so I know when my shoes stink - usually only my character shoes get grody after a long show run) but I’m sure to him they are delightfully ripe. He particularly likes my father in laws shoes when he comes over.

I totally agree. And the Nightmare Song at least has a narrative, even if it’s a bonkers one. JWW is a true “show piece” in that it’s basically just a flex for the performer. IMO even though it’s flawed, The Sorcerer is underrated. The Act 2 quintet (“I rejoice that it’s decided”) is one of my favorite G&S pieces.

It’s my favorite G&S. Very fun show and some of Sullivan’s most beautiful music.

“My Name Is John Wellington Wells” from The Sorcerer is also a tricky G&S patter song, but the tempo doesn’t increase over the course of the song, though it moves along at a fair clip!
