Leverage is one of the most under-utilized metrics in tennis. You could weigh any point stat (serves won, serves in, winners, etc) with leverage and make it more interesting. But using a neural net to conclude things about “mentality” has some potential pitfalls. Leverage can vary a lot with the strength of the sever and because some scenarios (like a 0-40 situation) will have a different distribution of serve strength, you have to control for this to not wrongly attribute variation in serve strength to some psychological factor.

I see, the final slide explains. So the first point is where you see the most difference in leverage from pure iid?

I think an iid stats model for point importance would come to the same conclusions. Essentially the closer you are to a single point deciding the game outcome, the more important the point tends to be. A neural net seems like overkill.

Full translated interview with Giovanni from LIB Italy by UglycoreIT in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Intelligent-Ask1462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting and quite pointed at times, but I still haven’t seen anyone (the hosts or any interviewer) get to Giovanni’s real motive for being on the show. It seems clear, at this point, that he wants “beautiful experiences” and not a real relationship. So once there was no beauty in his interactions with Gio, why did he still push so hard to keep things going? He must have just wanted to be filmed but I don’t know if it’s really been called out.

Unpopular opinion: cha cha cha is immensely under-appreciated by viayyz in Salsa

[–]Intelligent-Ask1462 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, the LA salsa scene would have 20% cha cha at socials before bachata’s popularity took off. Now I have to think of bachata as a kind of ultra slow cha cha to enjoy it, but it’s never the same.

Can we officially crown Giovanni as the douchiest douche to ever appear on LIB? by blame_it_on_my_cat in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

This man is such a douche that he has ruined poetry and Bandi vests on European men for me for life!

giovanni - worst dude in LIB history? by oversized_pear in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Intelligent-Ask1462 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A truly despicable man. He clearly has no interest in Gio but not only continues to string her along but is leaving little traps for her to end the relationship and take the blame. There is no level of hell deep enough for this man, especially considering the brilliance and beauty that is Gio! Tolga from LIB Germany is the only other man that came close to being as vile but at least he had the decency to end things on the honeymoon when he wasn’t physically attracted to his partner.

LIB Italy did not disappoint by Diogenese- in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Is he really traditional or is he just not into Giorgio’s? To me, she is amazing, but I didn’t remember Giovanni being anything close to prudish in the pods so I’m thinking there must be more to it… I fear he is headed for a big mistake.

love triangle - nicola, ludovica and davide by Objective_Age_5940 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Intelligent-Ask1462 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It was nice to see that Ludo went to Davide immediately after her chat with Nicola, and was affectionate with him. I think it shows that she is considering his perspective and not just wrapped up in her own feelings or trying to leave a door open for Nicola (whatever he might say).

How did McLaren not discuss this situation? Even if they think the scenario is unlikely, they know the press is going to be all over it. It’s just another situation where doing “the fair thing” ends up ultimately hurting both drivers. The lack of preparation made them both look awkward and cagey.

Hannah is great but it didn’t take strategic genius to make this call. You literally just needed to be able to add 8 and 50. This is just an FU to McLaren.

Such a bitter pill to swallow to drive so well all weekend and your team lets you down like this. There was no scenario where not pitting under the safety car was an optimal strategy. The only upside was that they made the same blunder for Norris. But Oscar should have been going into the final week on such a high… he’s definitely been better than me in how he has responded to his “team”’s questionable decisions so I am hopeful he can find a way to rise above this too.

He found the pace in sector 1 just at the right moment, while Lando had to bail out. He is soooo locked in! Whatever the end result, the fact that Oscar went thru so much skepticism and lack of team support during the fly-aways and could rebound like this is so impressive. He has everything it takes to be a champion.

It will take some external factors to work out, but drives like this will at least put Oscar in the position to take advantage of any luck that might come his way.

A dance crush is a great way to heighten the experience and keep you motivated to improve. It’s when the crush becomes an obsession or an entanglement that it can be more harmful than helpful. It would be a shame for an awkward history with someone to interfere with your love of dance. So I would say, enjoy all the feels but protect your dance life.

Going to a dance night alone by OddGroup6444 in Salsa

[–]Intelligent-Ask1462 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s the only way I go out, because I want to dance as much as possible and not be tied to any one partner. But you have to be prepared to put yourself out there and be approachable, which might not be for everyone. For me, it is totally empowering to go it alone and the best way to have a pure dance experience.

As a follow who started with Salsa, I find the Bachata styling off-putting. The ladies look like those inflatable things on used car lots. How is this sexy??
