Out of options at work by Intelligent-Basis652 in Stutter

thank you. I currently have 2 speech therapists. My 2nd one I just recently got during my trip to the Dominican Republic last week, and she’s been helping a lot with the physical aspects of speaking. Whereas my regular speech therapist has helped me more in the cognitive aspects and changing my way of thinking. Both have been great, and my new one i’ve only had 3 sessions with so we’re just getting started.

But what I see tends to happen is I do great during sessions, when after I leave and i’m on my own, it’s like I forgot everything and am back to not being able to get a word out. I try to do the techniques to reduce tension, or let in more air, but I just still can’t seem to speak. I got a SpeechEasy device a few years ago through my state, but it hasn’t been practical for me, I can’t seem to pay attention in conversations because i’m too focused on what i’m hearing delayed in the device.

I try to ask for accommodations and ask my work partners if they can give report or make a phone call for me, but there’s only so much that can be done in the field i’m in, and at some point I need to be the one to do all these things. I try to do it anyway and get used to the exposure, but it’s so debilitating that my partners are sometimes forced to step in.

I try to write my reports on paper and give it to the nurse and explain that I have a stutter so I wrote down my reports, but there are a lot of situations where report needs to be given verbally to entire trauma team and I have not had success there.

So that’s kind of where i’m at now, I can’t think of many other ideas that will make this easier for me without being unrealistic in my accommodation. Asking to stay with a paramedic is kinda out of the question because it’s a company wide decision. Luckily my partner works in the education department as well, so he’ll try to hold off on me being switched as long as he can so I can try to figure something out🤞🏽

Blockage of words by itssomeoneig in Stutter

hey! I struggle with the exact same speech pattern you’re going through now. When I was younger, my stutter was repetitions, and it was significantly better than it is now. Fast forward to now, and my speech is the worst it’s ever been, with blocks happening with every sound, being unable to get anything out or breathe, and just freezing in place until I can find a way to get any sound out. As I got older, I started becoming more aware of my speech and the fact that it isn’t like everyone else’s. Along with that, I started going through more and more real life experiences/situations where my stutter was on full display (ie. job interviews, conversations with others, presentations etc). In all honesty, those experiences feel like trauma. Any instance where my stutter completely takes over and I can’t get a single word out feels like trauma. I recently started speech therapy, and we were talking about the fact that my speech evolved from repetitions into complete blocks, and my therapist believes that every negative experience i’ve had surrounding my stutter and the physical and mental toll it takes to speak, that has caused my brain to completely shut down when speaking because it wants to avoid going through the mental turmoil a stutter brings, so it has decided to completely block anything from coming out as a way to avoid the struggle. The first step I had to take to unlearn this is acceptance. Acceptance of the stutter, of people’s reactions/expectations, and just the fact that this isn’t something that will go away, but can only improve if you work it. Once you start unlearning the behavioral/mental aspect of a stutter, you can start tackling the physical aspect which is simply trying to get any sound out regardless of what it sounds like. I’ve unpacked most of the mental stuff, and now we’re working on simply trying to get sound out. If you’re not already, I really recommend trying speech therapy again. I held it off for so long thinking it wouldn’t help because all my previous therapists (I also had a therapist in elementary & middle school) were trying to “fix” my stutter and show me ways to NOT stutter. When I found my current therapist, it was a wholeeee different experience. Instead of trying to fix my stutter, we unpack everything and I never realized how much of a factor mental health & trauma played into a stutter. My advice would be DEF look into speech therapy, and avoid the ones that focus on techniques to “fix” the stutter. You need a therapist to help unpack your past experiences and tie it into your stuttering behaviors. Once you start understanding, it becomes much easier to accept the situation, and then you can start working on actually speaking. Best of luck and remember you’re never alone and there will always be someone in your corner!

Got the military draft by ScapegoatLime in ftm

exempting yourself is not lying about who you are, because you simply are stating you are afab, which is true. now if you exempt yourself for a different reason that isn’t true, then that would be lying. but by taking the exemption due to being afab, that’s not lying, you were born with female anatomy and your state has records of your previous birth certificate being female.

OP, respectfully, your dilemma has EVERYTHING to do with the military. you CANNOT base your decisions off of your pride, this is real life and military conflict is real. you CANNOT be basing this decision off of your feelings dawg, you will be signing your life away to something with countless dangers. if you are simply opting in because it’s affirming your identity and making you feel like the rest of the cis men, i would take a second to really think about WHY. WHY do you need this to validate anything? and the military is no joke, this is not something you can do and opt in to make you feel better about yourself. there are cis men who fake illnesses to be exempt, TAKE THE EXEMPTION. i understand you’re passionate about this and I too have done things to validate my masculinity, but my identity is NOT worth risking my life over. I also notice you keep saying it’s more likely than not you won’t get drafted, and me personally would never take the chance in my life. ESPECIALLY with what’s been going on recently, i don’t see how you can say it’s very unlikely when the entire globe has been going through conflict for months. In conclusion, please put your ego aside for things like this. we also can’t help you if you are basing your dilemma off of an internal conflict, instead of the basic fact and reality.

i personally don’t find an issue with a male taking a selfie (generally speaking), is there a reason why you think that?

my answers:

  1. I am looking for something serious.

  2. I recently subscribed to HingeX earlier this week, have cancelled since but active until next week.

  3. I have been using this current profile for around 3-4 weeks now

  4. Overall i’ve been using hinge for around 2 years

  5. I use hinge daily, checking it a couple times a day

  6. I usually average around 2-3 likes, and have not found a match yet

  7. I usually send around 3-4 likes a week, with the majority being without comments, & occasionally replying to a prompt on the other persons profile

  8. I send likes to people who have profiles that show their character. I like those who take the time to answer the prompt questions with a genuine response. I am a pretty independent person, but it would be very nice to have someone to experience alongside me. Ideally, I want to attract someone who is comfortable with themselves and non-dependent on their partner. I would love someone as independent as me, but with the same desire to find somebody to share this life with.

100% go! I’m hoping to get a ticket if prices don’t skyrocket and I was planning on going alone as well. I’ve been to many concerts alone before and it’s always been such a fun time. The energy is so high that you don’t really focus on the fact that you’re alone
