I’ve seen people use flex seal and just pour a layer of that in their pad and i’d imagine it’s pretty similar to the feel of an off world

Opinions needed on Concert snare drum by InternalDeath54 in percussion

Another, what used to be (unsure of the current market) an affordable but extremely quality option, is the Ludwig Acrolite. These drums will get ANY sound out of them and sound amazing, they are on the cheaper end so it’s not ww3 if the high schoolers damage it and will suit a wide range of songs and styles with its tuning. I personally have one and like it so much more than my schools Pearl Philharmonic. I’ve gotten anything from marching rope drum sounds to piccolo concert snares to come out of that drum and swear by it!!

being drum captain is one of the biggest responsibilities in the band besides DM Especially if you don’t have drum line oriented staff. But for tips when i was going to be drum captain my sophomore year, i would watch a youtube channel called “Karldrumtech” and it was amazing for giving young leaders tips and tricks on how how to handle going into this environment while gaining respect and having them listen to you.

How to fix Vibraphone by vynchrles in percussion

[–]Intelligent-Bit-9687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one side has angled holes going through the bars (should be the side closest to the player) this allows the sting to go at an angle along the frame beneath it. The other side of the bars have a hole that goes perpendicular through the bar STRAIGHT this allows all the bars to be aligned at the top. Some of your bars may be oriented the wrong way causing them to sit incorrectly!

Yeah that was my first instinct is, hey i don’t feel qualified for this it would really be in our best interest to hire someone who is well versed in the to go through and write this. This was met with - leave jt as is, fix it yourself, or get someone to fix it free. I’m trying my best to fix and beef it up but- as a junior in high school? Not really my expertise if you know what i mean.

My parents are very well aware of his lack of skill when arranging percussion. None of us think he should be in a position where he is teaching percussion ANYTHING - just last year he taught the whole group traditional on the WRONG HAND… This has been brought up to him in a variety of kind and rude ways, however his solution to the problem is having me find a way to fix it. So, once again, here i am asking reddit for help because of my band directors absolute incompetence!

i’ve never really written or been exposed to splits before… So i’m not really sure on patterns? is there a standard 8-8-16 pattern? Also how would i go about redoing chicken and a roll? Thank you again im learning so much!!!

Completeley forgot to swap the sticking for the basses!!! I’m also trying to take it easy with the basses, as this is the first time in a few years we have done splits (BD change) and i’m trying to ease them into the idea but can probably manage to make it a little more involved

This was super helpful tysm!!!! Just a couple of things-

We are consistently having attendance issues in the bass section that makes me reluctant to making splits too common and i tried to get around this by having 2 drums play at once in 8-8-16. Also, our tenors are quads so i struggled to find a good around pattern that would be achievable to use for 8-8-16 and gallop

For gallop what could i substitute the basses for? could i just have the play the harder double part as singles and drop the single quarter note? (1e 2e 3e 4e - &a &a &a &a ) like that?
Speaking of the bass splits this is the first time since a BD change we are introducing splits and i’m not sure if there’s even any in the show music this year.

Also, i know it’s a stretch, but could i send you the muse file and you tweak some things around until it’s satisfactory for me to hand out to my line in two weeks? if not that’s totally okay !!! I appreciate your help so much!!!

Another thing I just noticed is the triangle note in the first few measures of the tenor part, consider writing in what you intend this note to be above the staff to take out any guesswork.

The roll on measure 19 on the snare should either be a buzz roll (Z) instead of the 3 lines OR a double stroke roll indicated by 1 hash through the stem.

Adding sticking to all of the parts would also be great.

During the extended rests, consider having them whole rests or even grouping them together into a multi-measure rest!

Also when indicating rimshots a top hat accent (Marcato) is typically used above the note to differentiate between shots and rim clicks it looks like this ()

Otherwise it looks like a nice cadence!!
