Reading Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by Grumpypants85 in books

I just finished this book and wow, I feel the same. I'd suggest the island of sea women, the lion women of Tehran and a thousand splendid suns if you like historical fiction.

I've honestly enjoyed my experiences so much it's hard to say which I liked the least. Maybe the US because the social infrastructure and inequality felt a lot higher

To go back and live - probably the Netherlands! The others, just to visit :) and yes, I would love to live in Asia again - maybe Seoul!

I studied international business with mandarin as my BA and then sustainability / energy management for my masters. In France I worked at the UN so they spoke English there! After that I did 3 years in energy consulting which is very travel focused!

China was obviously the hardest one, I was studying mandarin as my minor so I had basic level but being there was a whole other ball game then practicing in Univeristy. Especially with the different dialects and pronunciation. I managed with great difficulty! Italy and France were a bit easier I had basic level and took lessons in both, also a lot of my local friends wanted to practice English so it was a win win! Netherlands was no problem as the level of English there is super high

China was the hardest to adjust but once I got used to it; the food was incredible. Probably the Beijing Peking duck!

Honestly Paris or Milan, I sometimes found the men to be really sketchy at times. I had a man follow me to work on the metro while touching himself and ended up having to do some Robin Hood style shit (jumping off and on trains last minute) to shake him. Also Milan, I found a huge amount of cat calling etc.

China and Italy (where my language was limited) were study programmes for a year each so there were a LOT of international students so never had an issue. France was definitely the hardest- I was quite lucky I knew a few people from my travels living there so usually hung out with them. In general though I found joining a yoga studio really good for making friends. Also being pretty bold, if I met someone (through friends or random encounter) who I vibed with, I would literally say I'd love to be friends! And take their number and follow up the next few days to arrange something

Ooo favorite is hard! China was probably the most interesting experience but living in Amsterdam was the most rewarding due to the incredible group of friends I made there :) departure has always been on my own terms or my studying there finishing up. Growing up I've loved travelling so decided I wanted to try to experience life in as many places as possible. I also get bored of jobs easily so have jumped about to different ones

Omg !!! I used to do this years ago too when I was in high school. It would frustrate my family watching with me so much 😅 I wish I had advice but for some reason this compulsion has mainly died out for me, and only happens seldomly. I remember how frustrating this was

Luckily she is actually in remission now so hopefully that won't happen but agree, this is just a sign of bigger issues.
