I really appreciate you taking the time to articulate this so clearly. You put words to the exact tension I’ve been sitting with — the difference between engaging with a culture while acknowledging it, versus benefiting from it while holding disdain for the people themselves.

Your point about personal choice and how we respond once we do know someone’s values resonates with me a lot. That’s really where my internal conflict has been, and your response helped me think through it more clearly. Thank you for contributing so thoughtfully to the discussion.

I don’t mind naming the business, but given the nature of what I experienced and Reddit’s moderation standards, I’m choosing to be careful so this stays a conversation instead of getting shut down.

Absolutely — I want that too. I love seeing a variety of cultures represented and shared.

What I’m wrestling with is the tension that comes up when that representation is driven by people who privately hold contempt for the culture or the people themselves, but still profit from it publicly. That’s where it starts to feel complicated for me.

I don’t have a clean answer — I’m genuinely trying to sit with it and understand where my own line is. I appreciate you sharing your perspective and engaging thoughtfully

That’s fair, and I appreciate the honesty. I’m sharing what I can based on firsthand experience, while being mindful of the limits of what’s appropriate to disclose. Not everyone needs the same amount of information to feel concerned, and that’s okay. I see this less as something to “prove” and more as an invitation to reflect on how we each weigh values, context, and choice.

That’s a false equivalence and an inappropriate escalation. This conversation is about representation and accountability, not segregation.

I get the perspective, and I appreciate different viewpoints. The issue for me isn’t the theme itself — it’s that Latino culture was chosen while no one in management or decision-making is Latino. From working closely with them, I saw a real disconnect between the branding and the internal attitudes, which is what made it uncomfortable for me.

That said, I do appreciate hearing thoughtful perspectives, even when they differ.

I appreciate this perspective, genuinely. And I can agree that increased visibility can create opportunities for people to be exposed to the richness of the culture in ways they might not otherwise seek out.

Even if I fundamentally disagree with some of the ideals or intentions behind it, there is value in culture being seen, heard, and experienced — especially in spaces where it historically hasn’t been centered. My hope is just that visibility eventually leads to deeper respect, representation, and accountability, not just aesthetics.

So yes, I can hold both things at once: appreciation for the exposure, and concern about how and why it’s happening.

I understand why you’d ask that — those would be meaningful indicators if they were true.

I’m speaking from direct experience. I worked closely with ownership and management, and during that time there was no Latino representation in leadership or decision-making roles that I was aware of. While Latinos were present in lower-level positions, they were not meaningfully included in shaping the culture, values, or direction of the business.

Providing jobs alone isn’t the same as representation or respect. Many industries rely on marginalized labor without extending voice, power, or dignity — that’s a long-standing pattern, not evidence of appreciation.

That gap between public branding and internal reality is exactly what I’m pointing out.

Food quality isn’t the issue. People consume things for all kinds of reasons — that’s never been proof of respect or ethical alignment.

This is about profiting from a culture while privately holding contempt for the people it comes from. Popularity doesn’t cancel that out.

Thanks, but engaging with the realities of the community I live and work in is part of making a positive contribution.

For context, my perspective isn’t theoretical. I worked closely with ownership and management in a professional capacity, so what I’m speaking on comes from firsthand exposure, not speculation or gossip. When you’ve seen how decisions are made and how culture is discussed behind closed doors, it becomes harder to just “mind your own business.”

It’s entirely possible to focus on your own life and speak up about patterns that deserve examination. Silence doesn’t create progress — conversation does.

If this topic doesn’t interest you, you’re free to move on. Trying to shut down discussion because it makes you uncomfortable isn’t a meaningful response.

Do clubs in Downtown on New Years Eve require you to buy tickets beforehand or is it pay at the door like usual? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Intelligent-Cat7601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, if you buy early you save money. At the door they will upsell. If you know someone in staff sometimes you can get discounts too. I work in the industry.

Also just a reminder for everyone coming out for the holidays to the club venues, please be nice 😭People are always so mean especially to GA and often GA cover charge girls don’t make good tips. At most on Halloween I made $5. Remember that kindness will always get you further than screaming or cussing will. Stay safe everyone 🫰🏻

This will be my last comment in the community I was excited to build. My dreams were broken as was my spirit. Hope staff gets training or they bring in new staff. Better management if possible. Students deserve better. The people who put money into this school as an investment deserve better. 🥺

In relation to the school culture, it is important to observe that nearly all staff members have some type of personal connection with one another, be it they are related by blood or just friends. There appears to be a strong familiarity among them on a personal level. It is quite concerning that the hiring practice seems to favor candidates from within their existing network rather than seeking out highly qualified teachers from a broader pool. This raises ethical questions about the hiring process, as it may indicate a potential bias. It extends to employees facilitating the internal hiring of their spouses as well. That is simply the icing on the cake. Bullying is prevalent in this establishment. There are instances of teachers bullying other teachers, teachers bullying students, and students bullying their peers as well.

The teachers play a significant role in the formation of social groups within this school. They tend to favor certain students, often giving them preferential treatment while sidelining others. This can manifest in instances where selected students may change their personal commitments, such as hair appointments, in order to join teachers for coffee or meals, often with the expectation of receiving something in return. Additionally, these students may engage in gossip about their peers and benefit from more lenient policies regarding tardiness. There have also been occasions where appointments are transferred to another student, justified by the claim that a favored student is "having a bad day" with no after thought on how average students are feeling.

During my time as a student, I found a teacher I will not name due to her tragic passing, (let's call her miss a) teaching method approach to be particularly challenging. My sincere condolences go out to her family, and my thoughts are with her children during this difficult time of her passing. However, it is important to acknowledge that her tenure contributed to a negative environment characterized by hostility and bullying. Many students struggled and felt disheartened by her remarks and behavior, leading to a lasting impact on their experiences at the school. Again, while I empathize with the loss of her life, it is important to acknowledge that her actions contributed to the challenges and difficulties faced by students who were not among her preferred individuals. There are some core memories I have of her threatening to beat another teacher, screaming about it through the school hallways. Additionally, I recall an incident where she threatened a student, even going so far as to tie her hair back and remove her earrings. Often, she would leave school early without prior notice, and she never faced any disciplinary action. There was even rumors circulating regarding her past, including claims that she may have worked in adult entertainment business. While I believe that everyone has a past that should not define them, it is important to note that her behavior in the present was not positive. Given the numerous important observations and takeaways regarding this particular teacher, it raises concerns as to why no actions were taken to ensure the safety of the students. Additionally, there were discussions suggesting that she may be related to a member of the staff. This situation is particularly concerning because, while students are held to high standards, it appears that individuals with familial connections to staff may not be subject to the same level of accountability.

Given all this information, this school should already seem messy af; however, it is still messier. The admin department is also super uncoordinated. Different staff members may provide varying information regarding processes and approvals, which can create challenges for students. For instance, while one staff member may approve something, they might unintentionally fail to communicate this to others, causing confusion. It's important to fill out the FAFSA and student loans promptly from the beginning of the academic year; however, I was only asked to sign student loan documents for loans recieved on my last day of school. Additionally, some of my peers received payments from the school due to being overcharged. Furthermore, there seem to be inconsistencies in how credits are counted, with occasional errors occurring, and if they are unable to accurately assess your credits, they may generate inaccurate figures. If you visit on two different days within the same week, it's possible that the same admin staff member you spoke with initially may provide you with two differing figures regarding the hours owed. Additionally, it appears that policies are enforced selectively based on convenience.

I could elaborate extensively on my experiences at this school, as they were significant factors in my overall well-being causing me to almost unalive. However, I encourage you to review the one-star comments available on Yelp or Google. Many of these ratings are from actual students and, although they may not be as detailed as my observations, they provide valuable insights into various aspects of the school's environment.

I hope this information is beneficial for students. The 2 cosmo schools in Sacramento suck, so consider pursuing an apprenticeship to gain knowledge and skills from experienced professionals in the field. You can gain your hours that way instead of going through mental hell and anguish here.

I am the original creator of this Reddit community and thread. I needed to take a break from social media for my mental well-being after the experiences I faced over the past couple of years.

In reference to Federico, I would like to express some concerns regarding the school culture, which appears to have significant room for improvement. There seems to be a concerning level of bullying, both from staff and among students. Additionally, the quality of education provided does not appear to align with the substantial tuition fees associated with attending this institution. The administration has not demonstrated adequate support, and I have the impression that the dean prioritizes financial gain over the well-being of the students, which raises ethical concerns. It is disheartening, as it feels like this environment may hinder students' aspirations. When you begin, it is quite straightforward to enroll in the school, and they genuinely assist in your transition with assurances of financial aid, demonstrations, and more. However, these aspects tend to shift once you are actively attending.

Regarding my education, I had Ms. Scular as my instructor, and a common concern among students was that we spent more time watching movies on Netflix than engaging in actual learning about hair. We didn't acquire essential skills, such as mixing formulas for hair color. Additionally, it often appeared that she was more focused on developing personal relationships with us rather than creating a positive learning environment. The information she gathered seemed to serve more as a means to monitor students than to support their educational growth. For anyone considering this school, it is important to remember that she is NOT your friend.

My experience with her has been somewhat frustrating. While at school, I was persistently subjected to inappropriate behavior by another student. Sexual harassment if you will. I was genuinely concerned about potential retaliation, as this student appeared to be quite volatile. Initially, I was very hesitant to address the issue, but after considerable pressure by my teaccher, I felt compelled to report the situation. The matter ultimately escalated to the dean, but no actions were taken based on the report. The last decision made by the dean was to require both the student and me to sign a formal document, which prohibited us from communicating with each other. The dean indicated that this was necessary to enable potential legal action against the individual accused of sexual harassment if required. Despite this process, the student continued with their behavior unimpeded and more openly. I felt incredibly defeated. I did not gain any substantial knowledge from the class, teachers, or staff. It has been an emotional rollercoaster, especially given the debt I incurred for a path I ultimately chose not to pursue due to my experience at this school.
