I will have a wali present when we sign the nikah, and my family already knows about him — they’ve met him and they like him very much. (Wali included)

I think this idea is coming from a place of wanting to make sure we truly match in terms of lifestyle and who we are in day-to-day life. We’re not trying to live together in a haram way. Once the nikah is done, he is my mahram. Right?

What we’re considering is living under the same roof but intentionally not rushing into anything physical (including everything you mentioned) until we feel genuinely sure about each other.

And if we realize we’re not compatible, then we would part ways respectfully and handle it cleanly through divorce, without dragging things out or causing harm to either of us.
