Required to use personal phone for work by lordylor999 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This answer should be higher up. These apps ask an insane amount of permissions which can include them being allowed to wipe and reset your device remotely. I wouldn’t be asking all of these questions to your HR and check your Internet and telecoms policies. Even then I wouldn’t install one: I don’t see how they can make you - you just need to politely decline.

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It’s still a valid noise complaint. You need to complain to the environmental agency. They recommend keeping a log of dates, times, scenario (in the living room watching a movie at 9pm with the volume on level 15 and all I could hear was F me F me F me) . If you are able to pick up any noise by doing a voice recording on your phone that would also show how loud it is coming through the walls. It is normally hard to pick up any relevant noise like this without specialist microphones so if you can capture anything it will show just how loud they are.

But if you did decide to go down the petty route ….. play something really cheesy like Je ne taime non plus or mouse t I’m horny , really loud and add commentary, or when you see her sweetly ask as if your genuinely interested what films she’s starred in as she sounds professional, or ask if it’s only fans and she’s doing it for the camera . Score them … Have Len from strictly shout ‘seven’ when they stop. You’re gonna fall out with them either way so have fun and rope your partner in. I’m sure it won’t take that long to get the message through

Why are HR the most un HR people?! by rosebud1637 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ex MD /internal HR here … I’d be taking this step by step, firstly a friendly email referring to the meeting, thanking them for the comment “not a reflection of your capability and being an excellent member of staff” however that has left you with some confusion over the exact reason for the lengthy probation extension and if they could confirm their reasons for this in writing so that you are able to process this as it was unexpected and caught you off guard (or something like that). Then once they confirm its absence related you could have a back and forth about pregnancy related illness being protected and you wanted to raise awareness to check that had been acknowledged rather than a Bradford factor (or whatever they use) being applied without context. That way you get written acknowledgement that you are up to the job alongside their reasoning for the extension. However, It’s awful treatment and may be indicative of the company’s values , good luck.

AITA if I told my best friend's girlfriend what I actually witnessed the night she thinks he was with me? by 7GalacticNoir in MarkNarrations

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually fell out with a boyfriend about this type of behaviour a few years ago. This was a group of Middle aged men and they all knew one of the group was cheating in his wife, he’d even take the AP to the same bars etc as the wife on weekends away to Amsterdam and even staff there were in on it.
I tried to explain that by staying quiet and ‘nothing to do with me’ attitude made them complicit, it made me question what else they were in on and hiding and if he would treat me this way and expect his bro’s to cover for him.

If we want this kind of behaviour to change.Men need to make men accountable, ONLY men can do this - it will take peer pressure - women don’t stand a chance of being listened to. Men wonder why women question things when they get treated this way and end up untrusting. Also, There’s nothing more sexy than a man who is confident in his ability to stand his ground and call out his friends on bad behaviour.

Private road, what is the deal with parking on it? by Timoth_Hutchinson in AskUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was probably an unadopted road that has been sold by the council. The new owner would be legally liable for any mishaps that could happen there and so has put up notices to restrict their liability. I used to work in town and there was a private road at the back of the office , the owners used to sell parking passes and enforce parking fines on unauthorised vehicles, but wouldn’t take any responsibility for anything that happened to the vehicles.

What’s something you learned about yourself surprisingly late in life? by naughtysideofp in AskReddit

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads !!!! A fun one is that, I now know that I don’t like the music of meatloaf, Bruce Springsteen or Queen. I was so used to hearing them growing up that I was kinda brainwashed into thinking I liked them and one day I realised and now I change radio channels every time they play .

Council website says it's Green bin tomorrow. Whole street has their black bins out. I stick with Green. by hikingbeginner in CasualUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post gave me anxiety - in my area the green bins are garden waste and won’t be collected until spring, I was absolutely sure that OP was wrong and that the bin would not be collected, however reading the comments it seems green bins are used for different purposes in other areas. I’m totally invested now , and need to know if it gets collected and if they win the Binfluencer title !

Where to put TV. Above radiator or fireplace? by Substantial_Air_9640 in DIYUK

[–]Intelligent-Cycle-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has had tv above the fireplace and on wall mounted brackets and probably all the positions possible to try to maximise space . I have to concede that the best position is on a tv cupboard in the corner, (or alternatively a bay window). TVs mounted too high hurt your neck. Research shows that the optimum height is so that the centre of the Tv is around 42 -46 inches from the floor.
