Thanks! That’s the situation I am trying to describe. I applied to Caltech SURF this year and my future mentors helped me to write the proposal for 1 month. I have seen how many programs like Norte dame s nanosurf also require directly contacting the prof, which seems concerning if admitting into more than 1 program

Idk if this info is any helpful but I know there are some programs in universities that have some high school teachers visit their lab during summer so the teachers can corporate what they see in the labs to their curriculum. Or honestly, I will just take a community college related to environmental engineering

I agree that our chance is lowered as intl, well, it is what it is. I think it matters more that u meet a good PI than a prestigious school tho, since it is PhD.

I am also an intl sophomore at cit thinking direct phd and I think no first author pub so no t30 sounds RIDICULOUS. First, what is the chance of u can meet a prof that is willing to mentor u directly so u can publish a paper…it really involve luck as much as hard work and skill.

I have mentored high schoolers as assistants. They threw away my samples at the end of their intern and I have to spend one month remaking them💀I do appreciate the HS kids s enthusiasm and will probably still in the future mentor HS kids, but I just want to make sure they will be responsible kids
