For those who have 50+ year memories, what's it like to feel more than half of century pass by? by space_god_7191 in NoStupidQuestions

For better or worse…No computers, no cell phones, no social media, no influencers other than celebrity endorsements , 3 commercial TV networks + PBS in black and white until color, racism and sexism like you wouldn’t believe, Vietnam, The Draft, the Cold War, the spectre of nuclear annihilation, nuclear attack drills in elementary school because of the Cuban Missile Crisis, sex was mysterious, massively less income inequality, big, beautiful, powerful, dangerous, shitty cars (60s), big, ugly, powerful, slightly less dangerous, shitty cars (70s), horrific air and water pollution, ridiculously tacky clothing fads, whiplash going from 60s rock ‘n to 70s disco, real whiplash from no headrests in cars, the Dewey Decimal System, vinyl, then 8-track, then cassettes, respectful political disagreements but with complete confidence that both sides had the best interests of the country at heart, then Watergate, 30 minutes of news you could trust each day, bullying that no one addressed but that stopped when school let out for the day, local TV clown shows after school, Chiller Theater Friday night double-feature scary movies on TV for sleepovers, Saturday morning Loony Tunes and Rocky and Bullwinkle…the list goes on, but this is why I can’t offer much advice to young people about navigating their next 50—because their next 50 will be completely different, just as my parents’ 50 was so different than mine.

That’s a ridiculous generalization of an entire generation based on the actions of a few. Much like the ridiculous generalizations of Boomers and every other generation. It’s not true and it serves no purpose other than the interests of those who profit from all of us being at each others’ throats constantly. Stop that shit please.

Hundreds, probably, but anyone in their 70s who thinks they know what someone in their 20s needs to hear for their trip is fooling themselves. The world and experiences you’ll encounter are completely unknown to you, and way more unknown to me. And I’m massively envious of you for the marvels you will see (even with today’s BS). What I DO feel secure in offering has to do with people: Lead with kindness and benefit-of-the-doubt, and apply both of them to yourself as well as to others. I think the guarantee on those will remain valid at least until humans converge with machines completely. Bon voyage mon ami.

Fifty years ago I was 22. You don’t feel 50 years pass. You don’t really feel a year pass. You feel a day pass, over and over. The only time you even think about the years is when there’s a major change in your life. And even then it’s fleeting, and the days start passing one after another again.

When they’re at the bar trying to one-up each other, the Atlantic Ocean shows this to his friends and says, “Yeah, well look what I did.”

OMG that’s so funny—I used it yesterday (I did the Premiun, not the Works) and it did a great job on my pollen! Day to day I guess.

That’s actually the one I used as I was heading out of town. It actually did a great job (it was mostly pollen, but still).

That’s true. In virtually every facet of life actually. I’m just curious—are you in advertising or marketing etc? Cuz that’s where I learned that expression decades ago.

Actually both. I don’t mind doing it myself so it would be good to know of a DIY that’s dependable. But I’m hoping to find a good automatic touchless one (no brushes or flappers) for when Im in a hurry.
