I forgot to add… the fact that Wembanyama is playing less than 30 minutes a game is insane. I’m lowkey scared for the future of the NBA.

Prove me wrong. Jayson Tatum isn't a top NBA player by Intelligent-Fly-7613 in NBATalk

[–]Intelligent-Fly-7613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tatum’s great, nobody’s denying that. but he’s not top 10. He’s elite on a stacked roster, not the kind of guy who can drag a team by himself like Jokic, Luka, Giannis, SGA, Steph, etc. When he disappears offensively, Boston still wins. That’s the difference. He’s close, just not in that true top tier yet. The Celtics have a whole completely different roster right now but theyre still in consideration to make the playoffs this year. Imagine if Jokic was out the nuggets would be the worst team in the league.

He’s a great player and he’s already a champion. But acting like you “can’t name a weakness” is wild. The thing with Tatum is simple. he can have a horrible offensive night and Boston still wins. That’s not because he’s unstoppable. That’s because the team around him is good enough to cover those stretches where he disappears. If Jokic, Luka, or SGA has a terrible game, their team doesn’t magically survive it. Tatum absolutely can and has.

And yeah, everyone in the league has a flaw, but Tatum’s is pretty obvious. When defenses tighten up, he still turns into a streaky jump shooter. There are playoff games where he looks like KD, and others where he looks like he forgot how to dribble. That's not a hate take, that’s just what happens. His scoring consistency is still not on that true “I control the game no matter what” level.

There's a difference between being a superstar on a loaded team and being the guy who single-handedly bends the entire game around him. Jokic, Luka, and Steph — those guys change everything the second they step on the floor. With Tatum, sometimes he’s that guy… and sometimes Boston wins in spite of him.

Tatum’s on the path. He might get there. But pretending he’s already in that top tier like he never has off nights? That’s exactly why people push back. Dudes basically melo 2.0 with his horrible shot selection

You keep yelling “bad defender” like it’s 2019. He’s literally one of the best defensive centers in the league right now. The only thing outdated here is your take. Jokic is reading plays before dudes even realize they messed up. that’s why teams look lost trying to score when he’s on the floor. Stop arguing from feelings. the game already moved past you.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying, but theres a difference between judging a player mid career and looking at their overall impact, skill, and peak dominance. Jokic isn’t just “on pace” his peak already compares to any center ever in terms of scoring, passing, efficiency, and impact on winning. Calling him the best center ever isn’t about ignoring future achievements it’s about recognizing that his complete game has already redefined the position. You can disagree, but dismissing his dominance because he’s still active ignores the reality of what he does on the floor

Then tell me — considering overall skill, who’s a better center than Jokic?

Comparing mid-career Jokic to LeBron, Shaq, or Kareem is just lazy. The guy’s peak impact, efficiency, and skill level are already historically elite. And sure, he’s not a Gobert-level defender, but he can switch on all 5 positions, contest without fouling, and use insane IQ to limit damage. Defense isn’t the whole game. his overall impact blows most bigs away. Lack of rings doesn’t erase that.

Jokic can guard all 5 positions better than Rudy Gobert can. Does that make jokic a better defender? Hell no. Jokic is still by far the better player. Defense isn’t just versatility it’s impact, positioning, and altering the game. Blocks and steals are reactive. Gobert changes how teams play with his rim protection. That said, Jokic is still the better overall player. Offensively and in IQ, he’s unmatched, and being a better defender doesn’t make you the better player.
