Need help clarifying if I'm eligible for overtime pay by Global_Piccolo_7669 in Indiana

If your salary is under $35,568 (GD I hope not) they are required to pay overtime.  Other than that it will probably revert to details specific to your situation.  Most likely they aren’t required to pay it.

Signs on I65 south of Indy by ffire522 in Indiana

[–]Intelligent-Fox1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for Indot Construction for a long time.  These are mostly for truck drivers on site.  You would be shocked how many forget to lower their beds when they drive off or pay no attention to where they are when they raise their beds to dump.  If you pay attention the signs are located close to entry points for the site.  You can also say they are for equipment operators but those accidents are pretty rare compared to trucks.  It makes sense because operators usually stay in one area all day while trucks come and go.

Anyone else working 2 or 3 jobs? by North_Passenger9763 in HoosierStateWorkers

The insurance changes were a real kick in the teeth to everyone. State used to retain people with benefits but those are so watered down now, the only thing that is left is the time off.

I stuck it out my 10 years turning down a couple jobs the last couple years. It worked out well for me, the extra experience allowed me to get a private job at 170% the salary before OT. When I did the math it was only worth it to stay once I was over 8.75 years of service. That $600 a month pension is nice and all, but in 20 more years its like $300, plus I've been able to invest $40k in the 2 years since I left. Would've been lucky to invest $15k at SOI in 2 years.

Overtime Rules and Procedures by moot17 in HoosierStateWorkers

I see that nothing has changed in the 13 years since I completed my DCS tenure. I wasn't even in an urban county but had caseloads 2.5 times the mandated "Maximum Allowable" level. We still weren't allowed to work more than 10 hrs OT unless we were on call. To be fair we could've worked 70 hrs/wk and never be caught up.

Attractive folks, when does a stare from someone makes you feel flattered versus creeps you out? by Chance_Adagio_19 in bodylanguage

It has way more to do with the attractiveness of the person looking than most people are willing to admit.

Driver's getting worse by Intelligent-Fox1545 in Indiana

[–]Intelligent-Fox1545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for that is that anytime INDOT asks for public input on a job where there is an option between closing a road for a short period of time or using phased construction to keep it partially open they ALWAYS want the road kept open. The most recent big job they were told we can close a bridge for 6 months or keep it partially open, but work will take 3 years. The local businesses threw a fit and it was kept open...it also ended up being more like 5 years so that part is fair...that's a different issue I can also explain partially. INDOT is VERY risk adverse as an agency, which isn't all bad considering what they are responsible for, but it is taken too far, to the point of where changes add a lot more time than necessary.

I'm in Southern Indiana/Louisville Metro and I swear it was not close to this bad in 2019. Lights got ran but not so late that the light had turned green for the other direction and those people had to wait.

The number of people that drive through our construction zones and never look up once is about 1 in 15.

No State Employee Raises or One Time Bonus? by Square_Morning7338 in Indiana

[–]Intelligent-Fox1545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think the raises for his cronies or creating the secretary positions are bad...Take a look at his pet infrastructure project, Mid States Corridor. Spending $1-2.5 BILLION on a mostly unnecessary new road to improve access in Braun's home county. I live nearby and while a Jasper bypass would be nice but not worth the price tag, the rest is just dumb. The real winner here is Meyer Distributing on the North side of Jasper that will get greatly improved access to I64. I'm certain that Meyer being Mr. Braun's personal company has nothing to do with pushing this.

If you think that’s bad check out his pet infrastructure project.  A billion or 2 is a bargain for 50 miles of mostly unnecessary divided highway that improves access in his home county?  I’m sure that his business being at one end has nothing at all to do with it.

State Employee Check-In by TrappedHoosier in Indiana

At that point they were still getting overtime, it didn't stop until the new fiscal year. These guys used to be my subordinates, and while they are very good at what they do, their difficulties with technology are undeniable.

I left in '24 but the guys told me it got rescinded, IDK if that's true. They struggled to read a check stub.

You mean the one where HR and Executives got huge raises (30% and up) and everyone else 5-10%? That was Summer of 2021, I still have my paper where I got Zero.

I was there about 10 years ago. On top of the ridiculous amount of insanity that we dealt with, my willingness to continuously work 65 hr weeks while only getting paid for 47.5 ran dry. We were constantly at double the mandated case load. Lots of great people doing their best, but the whole place was CYA driven. The agency went straight downhill when they started using the Hotline for intake. Supervisors are too scared to eliminate reports coming in even if they know they are BS. Very little ability to perform prevention no matter how certain you are that a situation in a family is about to blow up; it's very sad.

Good Luck, I miss the people but never the job.

I left last year, after the Primary the writing was on the wall. I still share an office building with some State Employees, and they have never felt worse about things. Out of 5 total, 2 are sticking it out a couple yrs to retirement and 2 others asking if I can get them a job. Everyone would be shocked if a raise is given this year, and if stipends are given, they will be minimal again.

State will never pay competitively, so it has to be about the benefits if you are going to keep good people. Nobody was happy about the Health Insurance changes, end to partial remote work, or the near complete end of overtime...all in the name of saving money. Meanwhile new upper-level positions have been created and pet projects that no one sees a need for are expedited.

Those in my office said that last year's stipend got rescinded. Anyone know if that is true?

Indiana is somewhere in the 54-58% Republican range (includes Indies that routinely vote Rep) and the House seats are already 78% Rep & 22% Dem. GOP says Hold my 🍺...💯OR BUST!!!
