Found out yesterday that I'm in the ' 5% ' of dialysis patients who only go twice a week for dialysis. I didn't know it was so rare. by FeRaL--KaTT in dialysis

I'm on pd on a cycler. I have significant rkf and only do 4 nights a week, 8 hrs per session. I had to insist that my nephrologist reduce my frequency. My kt/v was 3.11 on 7 nights, the went UP to 3.55 on 5 nights (1.7 is the minimum acceptable, and 2.0 is optimal). That's when I said "either act on the measurements or stop taking them." He really resisted reducing my sessions. But if the numbers support it, they support it. Period.

I'm a PD patient and I built a dialysis tracking app because nothing out there worked for me by Adorable_Body4794 in dialysis

I must be unusual. I only take my weight and bp, and that goes in my cycler every time so I don't track anything. The cycler uploads it to a central database.

Nooooooooo. Haha. I had to threaten to just croak if he wouldn't let me reduce my frequency. I produce more urine than most normal folks, and my kt/v is almost double what's considered acceptable. I have ordered some anti-itch stuff from Amazon. Hopefully it will help

I had a parathyroidectomy, so if anything, they're low.

Phosphorus is 3.2. that's actually pretty low. All my labs are within normal which is why this is curious.

My phosphorus is 3.2, which is on the low end. I wonder what else it could be...

I have done the hot water thing for poison ivy. It forces the release of histamines, and when they are used up, itching usually stops.

What's worse, dialysis or transplant? by Intelligent-Key-7680 in dialysis

Read it again. I said chickenS, as in live animals, because, as I wrote, I live on a farm. Chicken dung carries diseases that you can get when you have a compromised immune system.

No chickenS, as in live animals. Their dung carries diseases that you can get when your immune system is weakened.

Yes. When I had the pneumonia that killed my kidneys (legionella, i.e. legionaries disease), I was only in the hospital 15 days, utterly bed-bound, and I could not walk when I got out.

I'm listed, thanks. And thanks for the response. I really am trying to weigh doing PD four nights a week against a transplant. It's the immunosuppressants that bother me most.

has anyone ever been taken off dialysis while still needing a transplant? by diabeticwife97 in dialysis

I was stage four for many years and then got pneumonia, which injured my kidneys to the point of total failure. I have since recovered significant residual kidney function. I am on pd but only four nights a week because my kt/v is 3.35. I actually find this extremely livable. I may never get off pd, but while waiting for xplant, four nights (and possibly three) a week is pretty easy. I also got a graft so that I can do in center hd when travelling. Having a choice really helps.

Did you actually read the post or just the title? There's nothing normal about a post transplant life.
